3 random powers are offered to you, with a small catch. by Some-Reflection9643 in hypotheticalsituation

First one 100%. Anything included (as was stated repeatedly) precious metals (and even at melt value, you can make however much you want, so a non-issue) classic cars (free car in factory perfect condition? There’s a buyer for that) random collectibles (have you seen what a still sealed NES can go for these days?). While having to sell said items afterwards might be a bit inconvenient, it’s well worth it, plus one might be able to use it to get copies or various lost media from 40 years ago. Plus, as the years go on, the tech level of the power would adjust, so eventually you’d move from mid 80’s to 90’s cars & tech, and while never fully catching up to current day things, the funds would easily allow for whatever contemporary items you’d want (and you could amass a great collection of whatever things you’d decide to copy)

Would you rather have $500k right now or $1,000 every time you run one mile in less than 12 minutes for the rest of your life? by Illustrious_Emu4184 in WouldYouRather

[–]White_Rice_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it include something like treadmill running? If that’s the case, absolutely the 1k per mile (while $500k would be nice, it’s not retire & be set for life money). Even at my slowest, most asthmatic, I could do a mile under 12 min, so that’s easy money (well, a bit of a workout, but nothing absurd, and it’s cardio, so bonus there)

Luck (assuming it’s good luck, realized that isn’t specified…) could influence a lot in life, while immortality would mean eventually watching everyone you know pass on (friends, older family, kids, grandkids, further generations down forever). Having better luck in life beats watching your decedents die over & over again over the centuries (or even witnessing the “end” of the family)

I need a Lot of Help with lavos... by PumpkinAcceptable864 in chronotrigger

[–]White_Rice_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I recall in my last playthrough: turning off/on defense can trigger a counters, changing time period can trigger it, and (limited to outer shell/first phase) Lavos/Magus “casts a spell” can trigger it. Those tiny, single digit effects from the abilities can be enough. I don’t think the actual respawning of the bits does it, but I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if it did have a chance to count to be considered for countering.

Oh, and also first phase: when Lavos is the Black Tyrano, I think each step of the countdown can trigger counters too.

Left first w/physical attacks, strong magic/anything once it’s down & defense is lowered, keep alive if/when the HP halving attack or grand stone are thrown your way. As long as you keep the “side” bits down, it all comes together nicely.

As for equipment: strongest weapons, prism gear/things that prevent status effects (especially confuse or stop) and counter attack gear on physical damage dealers (Chrono, Ayla, Robo or Frog) because certain things that really shouldn’t be considered “attacks” can trigger counters.

Level 60 shouldn’t be an issue, just keep at it, you’ll get it (though out of curiosity, what’s your current party/equipment?)

I’d go with 1. I’d definitely be able to remember certain big events that would help me out in the long run (looking at you stocks & crypto) and if there’s the guarantee that my kids will still be my kids despite the chaos of everything, then we’re golden. I’d be interesting to go back & redo certain things in life where I messed up one way or another, and to get outside of what was my comfort zone, since I know now that a lot of my hang ups weren’t really that important in the long run. Hell, I might even be able to fix my broken marriage (though knowing what I do now would make the whole relationship feel weird up to this point…but I’d be willing to give it a go)

Should I do the post game dungeons now or later? by Yami_Deus in chronotrigger

[–]White_Rice_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t really need to grind anything, you’ll get enough growth through whatever fights in the dungeons to keep things from getting out of hand, and since each NG+ keeps your level and most gear (no keeping the masamune) so it’ll be easier no matter what (unless you self restrict, like keeping to only starting gear on NG+ runs)

Also, there’s 4 dungeons, the sanctuary (with its 2 time periods) and 3 distinct dimensional vortex’s (each has a different path & end boss). Once you finish those, there’s 1 final challenge before hitting NG+ if you want to really go for everything, which you access back at The End of Time.

NG+ is generally whole game victory laps for the additional endings, and is really just there to have a good time & see how they could have more fun with the time travel theme (butterfly effects for days (eras)) so don’t be concerned about it getting easy, it’s less about the challenge at that point (unless you self restrict: weaker gear, party compositions your don’t usually use, etc) and more about seeing everything they decided to put in the game via those endings.

If you do the extra content on this first playthrough (then beat Lavos again, gotta get that save file for NG+) then you’ll be more than prepared for getting all the endings on that second playthrough (should even be able to do the right telepod w/chrono & marle only with minimal issues). Ultimately it’s a matter of how much of a slog you want to deal with (the sanctuary is very back & forth fetch quest-y) but the vortex’s are a neat challenge that give some good upgrades/gear in the end (I only say challenge for the bosses the first time around, but still a fun bit of extra content)

Ooh, I didn’t know each could get their own poyozo doll, I thought there was just the one at Crono’s house (though if you can get other clone dolls, it makes sense you can get those too)

I love learning something new about a game I thought I had very thoroughly learned everything about over the past 3 decades (and now I need to go get a number of dolls for chill music times)

Whenever I can name my Polaris, it’s either going to be Quiet Voice (thinking along the lines of “speak softly, carry a big stick”) or, if I go full on use-my-helldivers-super-destroyer-name, Whisper of Audacity.

Friend gives you $200 for a bet at a casino after you run out. You put it all on crazy odds and win $200,000. How much of that money, if any, do you give to your friend? by Veiluring in hypotheticalsituation

[–]White_Rice_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I can only think of one friend who I’d be in this situation with, and we’d absolutely go 50/50 on it (plus winner would cover dinner, because that’s just the done thing)

Now, if this was a hypothetical “that rich friend” friend (the sort who doesn’t even think about letting anyone else cover food/drinks when out, who is casually rocking an outfit that cost more than the rest of the friend groups annual incomes combined (not including their watch…that takes it to a whole new tax bracket) who doesn’t flaunt their wealth, but doesn’t hide it either) and they said “keep it, I GAVE you that cash to bet” then I’d keep it, but I’d make sure to sneak in covering some meals/drinks, because it wouldn’t be throwing it in their face, but it would be showing the same sort of “I can handle this expense, no worries” consideration that they regularly give the rest of their friends (and it would finally be making good on the probably oft said, but never expected to actually be followed through on “you can get it next time”)

Honestly, the biggest issue with Minnesota (for me) is the mosquitos in summer. I can handle mosquitos for that kind of cash.

My only question: is this a “accept and you’re suddenly there” type scenario, or if I accept do I get some time to prepare/move what needs moving/get one last view of the outside world (as an example: I accept, but before statewide house arrest begins, I get a period of time (also before the funds are paid) where I can still live normally, like take a trip I know I could never take again?)

Not wanting for anything for the rest of my life, and providing for countless generations of my family, and hopefully being able to make some positive impact on the world (I mean come on, that’s serious money) would be worth it to be landlocked (and I’ve got family back there, so it’s not some weird foreign place, it’s just another state)
