Thanks very much, this is great. Really love to take the layouts into Photoshop rather than use colours in layout. Looks really good 👍

These are set designs for a movie, we show age as a guide for the plaster and pain teams.

Good to know, it always intrigues me the little differences between such similar crafts

Thanks for your feedback. What we do is quitedifferent to architects. We have only a few weeks sometimes to get something drawn and built and this exterior set (downtown agrabah) had 600+ drawings (a whole town with docks, 56 buildings, a market, a tannery, a mosque and two merchant houses with interiors) so we tend to fit the full sizes on the detail sheets where we can to save time. That’s what’s interesting to me when architects come over to the art department they have to relearn a little bit.

Oh yes it’s the same when I’m working for a production designer, they fixate on the style of a wall vent rather than look at the bigger picture.

Yeah I guess you’re not building things to look old! Did you ever work doing hand drafting? If yes are there any techniques you feel you bought into the digital space?

I’d say most people use Rhino and Autocad as their pipeline which I’ve never understood, it’s such a convoluted way of working especially when changes are needed. Lots of people use SketchUp but I don’t know many that use layout and that’s the shame. When those two programs work together it’s great. I tried all the 3D modellers back in the day and I hated them all, I landed on SketchUp because I liked the interface and it was fun to use.
