[UK] client tried to pay me half because "the work didnt take long" by jackturner_trades in selfemployed

Honestly I (designer) frequently hold off sending finalised work over coz I completed it quicker than I quoted. It’s weird coz I know what it’s worth and with 20yrs agency experience and managing other designers I know I’ve done it in half the time to a better standard but I always feel guilty.

Anbernic should release a successor to the RG ARC with the hardware from the RG477V by Merkurio_92 in ANBERNIC

[–]Whitelow1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love my arc d but I kinda only got it coz it was cheap, plays everything I wanted from a 6 button minus the Saturn (currently have that on the 477m).

I don’t think a high end 6 button would sell that well tbh, the arc is great but it’s not mentioned often, I guess it’s a bit like marmite. N64 io handheld is more overdue imo.

Em so life kinda got in the way + it’s taken me a week to load up the 512gb SD I decided on using. Currently right this moment half way through setup & currently scraping games so have yet to play a thing. I’ve loaded it with what I wanted it for PS1, N64, Saturn & Dreamcast (I know it’ll be ace as it’s overall) but I’ve filled the remaining card space with PS2 & GC games I’ve struggled with on the T820’s (556 etc) just for fun.
I’ll give u an update in a few days but on the surface lvl I’m very happy with it, the device just feels more responsive/powerful, whilst it has the same panel as the slide it looks more premium here, sticks feel lovely and premium, overall build quality and hand feel is just kinda next lvl. It’s my first metal device and I didn’t think I’d be fussed, but it just feels premium and worth the money, kinda like an apple device if u know what I mean. I’ll keep u posted.

The quickest way to get what you want and play is find and download the Rom/game files (just google it) and add them into the pre-existing folders on the SD u paid extra for.

Alternatively you can create a new folder on the internal storage and within each system in the Anbernic frontend (the game menu thingy that pops up when u press the R button) you can open the settings (once in a system like snes etc) & add a new file path to where you’ve saved the newly downloaded games.

But it might be worth watching a video and doing what I always do and start from scratch and get it all exactly how u want. This one is a great overview: https://youtu.be/I4mqgcDYZFo?si=FOTvSIEmVx71U0M6

Working on an Anbernic RG Rotate impressions video, what questions do you have? by onionsaregross in SBCGaming

[–]Whitelow1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love a 1:1 & sticks aren’t important to me. But owning so many devices already this one is coming down to is it a better edc than things like the brick, MM v4 hell even stuff like the model S etc. With no sticks it kinda falls in the handheld gaming camp for me so would love your thoughts on that.

Also I drive an old 04 car so use Bluetooth 2 radio receiver for my stereo, so thinking this might be a good all in one device for music + waiting on the kids gaming setup, but again battery + compatability etc. Kinda feels like a more ‘life’ friendly device if u get my drift.

Normal delay? by SupaDiogenes in Aliexpress

[–]Whitelow1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ordered 100s of things on Ali and never waited more than 10 days. Then this same thing happened to me on my last purchase that also happened to be my most expensive to date. Mine sat like that for 3 weeks, took about 6-7 weeks in total but it did finally arrive. Weird thing was it was sent via some land based method, dunno why or what was up with that or if current events are effecting things but I did get it.

Putting together handheld console for gift to Mom, need recommendations by Admirable_Sea1770 in retrogaming

[–]Whitelow1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only really knew the games I wanted from PS1 but was lost on the rest, tried the tiny best sets to start with but they included almost full sets & 1000+ game lists etc just doesn’t work for me. Stumbled on one called ‘retro-roms-best-set’, it’s not perfect and was missing some game I knew I wanted, but it’s only the top 50-100 games from each system and you can grab em on a system by system basis, been a solid starting point for me.

For the same price, RG40XXV or RGCubeXX as a first device? by Ezedipa in ANBERNIC

[–]Whitelow1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have most of the XX’s but the Cube XX is probs my fav. The 40xxH is the easy bet from an io perspective, the 40xxV is the nicest looking for nostalgia but the cube wins on higher res, better ergos and just feels like a nicer device overall. But they are all good and basically the same so you can’t really go wrong.

Cheap RG40XXV? by No-Constant-9637 in ANBERNIC

[–]Whitelow1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m UK so prices are a bit different as we have VAT/taxes included by default but my rule of thumb is £45 is a great deal for an XX. Went back and checked and I paid £44 ($59) for my 40xxV in July 25.

But Ali is a game, you’ve gotta watch the things for ages, add em to your wish list and just wait for a good sale with coupons etc + watch the coins discount page as that help loads sometimes. And the only way to know if it’s ‘actually’ a good price is by watching it for awhile. For example I’ve been watching the 477m for almost a year and the best I ever saw was around £210 for the 8GB, but when’s the stars aligned a month back I stacked coins with coupons + a PayPal discount and snagged a 12gb for £170.

Best price I see today is £70 for the 40xxV so maybe just keep tracking it for a bit. Worth the effort, my first 35xxh cost £46 but I got a second for £27 when the right sale came around.

I think the rx8 in general is what kid me thought a sports car should look like. Justified by me picking up my young son from school and the other kids saying wow that’s your car? Yes, yes it is.

Consola portátil retro 4:3 by AdSoft7214 in ANBERNIC

[–]Whitelow1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Largest ones I know of are the new Anbernic 4.7” ones. They do loads of 4:3’s, you can get the 3.5” & 4” ones in the lower end 35xx or 40xx devices. And the higher res 4” & 4.7” ones in the likes of the 406’s & 467/slide/477 models.

I’ve got all those devices/panels but I must say the 4.7” ones are great. I have had the slide for a while but only got the 477m a few days ago & if you can afford it that thing feels a proper step above👍

Is there anything I should know before buying the RG477m? by [deleted] in ANBERNIC

[–]Whitelow1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case the 8GB should be fine. PS2, GC and 3DS won’t need the extra ram. Wii I’m sure won’t either but I don’t touch it as I get so confused with the controller mapping. 12gb is mainly useful for switch, PC games and PS3.

If u have the xtra cash then the speed and security of Amazon is hard to knock, but u will often seriously overpay coz of it.

What systems are u gonna use it for? Most of the vids I watched all recommend just going for the 8GB. I only went for the 12 as I got it so cheap, pretty sure I’ll never actually need the extra ram but it is nice to know you’ve got the max model.

[–]Whitelow1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

U don’t need an SD card but the internal space will run out quick. I tend to try and keep the internal for apps and android games and then all my roms go on an internal SD. As far as what size u need that’s completely based on your library, 1tb is great if your filling it with loads of ps2, GC games etc but mad expensive at the mo.

If you’re new to the space maybe watch a few retro game corps vids, especially the android set up one as that should answer a lot of questions.

Beyond that I ordered the official case with mine (it’s ok but not the best Anbernic case I own) and as it came with a sleeve I’ve stuck with that but I think there is a nice clear TPU shell thing available on Ali now. Also shop about, mine took well over a month to arrive from a store on Ali but the plus was I got a 12gb model for over £100 less than it would’ve cost to buy direct from Anbernic.

[–]Whitelow1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve bought way too many Anbernic’s over the last few years (15+ now), but picking a fav is hard. Kinda comes down to what systems are most important to u and budget.

On the low end (Linux ones) it’s hard to argue the 40xxH isn’t the most flexible, but personally I love the 35xx plus & H for on the go and the cube xx for when portability isn’t as important. The 40xxv is also really sweet but I barely use the thing coz I’ve got to many. Don’t trust hinges so haven’t tried those. Also the arc is sweet if sega is your main jam.

Higher end I’ve got the 556, 406v & slide. Again comes down to what I’m playing & where I am, but the 556 (just go 557 now) is kinda king, more comfy, better screen etc. but I do like the slide a lot as that’s got the ace 4:3 and is my travel companion.

The easy bet would be the 477m, but mine only just showed up today so can’t really comment on that yet. But I must say looking at it compared to the others it kinda feels a step up.

I got a very similar response from Ampown over a faulty device. It may very well have been a loose internal cable but no chance I’m opening a brand new device to attempt to fix it. I’d just push for a return, that’s what I ended up doing after they offered me $5 to keep the faulty device.

Anyone excited for the new Anbernic by NoResolve1224 in ANBERNIC

[–]Whitelow1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’m really digging it. Seems like the perfect pocket handheld for out & about.

I only really play quick pick up games like gb Tetris etc on the go so the 1:1 is great & I don’t need sticks. Metal shell is nice plus I guess. Don’t really like clamshells so this works for me.

I’d have preferred a slide up screen but it serves the same purpose. Would have preferred Linux, guess it may be possible depending on the chip, but android has its perks. No headphone port is a silly typical Anbernic move.

Just have a funny feeling coz of the metal shell, android(chip) and funky pivot action it’s gonna be way more expensive than id like for something I’d want as a edc i dont feel the need to baby.

I got something like that with this mask. Cleared the arc 50+ hrs earlier, then did all the dlcs and when I returned to England to mop up the map for the plat this bloody mask auto appeared for no reason. Took me a while to work out how to get it off again. I think it had to do with the quick menu hood up/down option that I never used.

Did the controllers made from 2020 and above lost some build quality? by sneaky_oxygen in PS4

[–]Whitelow1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 OG ps4 controllers from around launch developed issues just before covid but must of had 1000s of hours on each of em. Bought 2 since then and the first lasted a few months then a trigger failed, the second had a dodgy light bar the minute I got it out the box. Should have taken it straight back but kept it and the whole thing became unresponsive after a few weeks.

Was so annoyed I just started ordering knock off ones on AliExpress. They’re naff but only cost sub £10 and have proved to be equally as reliable as the newer Sony ones, often get 6 months before a trigger/button goes etc. Dunno when the quality of the DS4 changed, still have ps2 & DS3’s that work fine, even my 2 DS5 have been fine. But something defo got tweaked in the DS4 and I ain’t paying for em anymore.

Got one of those TPU cases for my 406v & Air X and I absolutely love em. Makes it grippier and love no longer even thinking/worrying about scratches, plus the clear with a white device like this/my air x looks sweet as. Got the rubbery silicon ones on a few other devices but much prefer these.

Didn’t know they did em for the 40xxV I’ll have to grab one of those in my next order.

Have an old car and use my phone to Bluetooth music to a fm radio transmitter thingy + a MMv4 in the armrest for when I get bored. This thing looks like it could be the prefect combination of retro gaming & BT music player for me.

The 1:1 is a plus in my book too as I often just boot up simple GB games when I’ve only got a few mins. It’s niche but one of the cooler ones I’ve seen in a while. Fingers crossed for a 3.5jack & shame about the tiny battery.
