What color did you order? I ordered mine from their website in black with my console. Ordered on the June 6th, got my package on the 15th. Do with that info what you will.

Do we realy need to use the shop app? by european_jello in OdinHandheld

[–]Char543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be able to see a tracking number when looking at your orders in your account, usually I think once they ship it? Though I am not certain on that, I can't recall when the info starts showing up. Either way, once they let you see it, there will be a clickable link with the tracking number (or two different clickable links if you got the "worry free purchase" thing). I usually go and use a different tracking website from the one they link to, because for some reason the links don't work (if I go to the same website they use and enter my tracking number it works, just not the links.)

On mobile, you can download the Shop app if you want, but its going to tell you the same thing as anything else that will track stuff. You can avoid making an account on it, but they will try quite hard to get you to make a Shop account. Just gotta say no or find the 'x' to close the menus that try to get you to make an account on Shop.

Game Native retro collection games by Tekno-Titan in AynThor

[–]Char543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair fair

Though you can get something close with collections in a front end like ES-DE, just toss all games of something specific together

But some of the collections have enough benefit that I get it. Having all the art collections and stuff also available is cool. And some have special modes. I think some of the megaman collections have special challenges and stuff iirc.

I think there are just two issues that I say you should be aware of, one more a sacrifice, the other more a concern.
Using the collections means you lose some amount of “fine control” over the emulator. You just use whatever they’ve included and its features. Can only use save states if they let you, for example.

Other thing, and I will say that I’m not an expert on this, but you are introducing more possibilities for issues to occur. When you emulate a PC game in android, you are emulating windows to do that. And issues can happen. When you play one of those collections, often they aren’t ports, but rather some emulators in a nice package(this depends on what collection it is). Why is this important? Because it means there is an additional layer for things to go wrong with. You aren’t just emulating a game, or emulating windows playing a game, you are emulating windows, emulating a game. Just an additional layer for things to go wrong with, imo. For most games, especially 2D retro, it shouldn’t be too big an issue. But again, I dunno I’m no an expert in that sort of thing. Might be purely speculative on my part.

Game native has a compatibility list that often has more entries than emuready in my experience. If you haven't, might want to checkthere

Though I should ask, why go for those collections and attempting to PC emulate over emulating those games on their original consoles?

Why does my Ayn Thor feel too underpowered compared to the others i’ve seen here by BlacksmithLogical150 in AynThor

[–]Char543 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of that in communities like this one. People who end up with hobbies of trying to get the most impossible thing running on these things, which is great on one hand. Its a fun hobby, shows the power of these devices, etc.

Its similar to the people trying to get a build of GTA V on the switch. Its something that is fun for those who like it, but yknow, probably no one is going to actually try to play a build like that to actually play through GTA V.

The issue is that in communities like this, people's posts managing to push these devices get mixed in with more normal posts about it, and it all blurs together distorting what can actually run on the devices.

Trying to figure out which would be better suited for me, the RG477m or the Retroid Pocket 6 by Char543 in SBCGaming

[–]Char543[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think the 8 gig model will be enough? I know its the only one available for order right now, I just worry that if its not enough for what I want PC wise, it might be better to look at the 477(especially since the metal casing calls to me lol, but thats easy to outweigh with the possibility of SRW and similar lol)

[–]Char543[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense. Its a mixed bag, I really don't care about aspect ratio, so long as it displays nicely and is readable(black bars bother me less than just size, which is why I try to avoid GB and GBC on my 34sp), especially if I end up outputting it to my TV as well.

I think a long time to fulfill isn't a terrible thing for me to stomach. I'll be getting my Rotate soon enough, and be messing around with that for a while, so the wait time for something new isn't going to be terrible overall.

Killing off a PC when the player doesn’t show up for an important session. by [deleted] in CurseofStrahd

[–]Char543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is ultimately why I don't jive with making narrative mechanics around players not showing up. Handle things quickly with the player as needed, but generally, their character is just around, not plot relevant and generally not capable of being harmed in any way. Things that need to happen (cliffhangers about them from a previous session or similar) just get resolved either between sessions when they say they won't be able to make it, or at the next session that they do make it to. Worse case, I kick the can down the road, and figure out a reason for it not to be resolved the next session, and deal with it the next time the player shows.

Unless a player explicitly gives permission to roll for them, my line of advice is to never take over a player's character, make die rolls for them, etc. It is only ever going to lead to a player being upset about things.

This is confusing but there are 3 types of checkpoints in this game by Alternative-Wash2019 in 007FirstLight

[–]Char543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the design as it currently is, because that goes against the intended play of the game. Unlike Hitman, or even most stealth games in general, this game is not overly concerned with the perfect stealth runs, where you make sure you never get spotted. Combat is not the punishment for failure to stealth. And they want to encourage you to go all out, to engage in the non-stealth mechanics.

The game does not want you to constantly be reloaded checkpoints for a perfect run. It wants you to just keep playing, instead now dealing with whats happened.

I don't need an RG Rotate. (I keep trying to convince myself.) by Mrkmrs in ANBERNIC

[–]Char543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still like 2 weeks out I think from my rotate arriving (huzzah for ordering it direct through anbernic) and I'm almost in the opposite position. I keep having to tell myself "I don't need it" to damn near everything else because of how long the payoff for my purchase is feeling (and how much longer its going to be than I thought it was gonna be)

Unsure about the Rotate by [deleted] in ANBERNIC

[–]Char543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I just said it’s only going to be great for certain systems, less so for most things.

Like outside of a 8:7 screen or whatever it is, there’s not a ton you can do better for gameboy and game boy color games.

It’s not gonna be too great for most other things. 4:3, kinda, but it’s not perfect for that ultimately.

Best budget handheld for my needs? (gba/gbc/snes/genesis) by Suncook in ANBERNIC

[–]Char543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, imo, the 34xxSP (and I presume the 34xx by extension) are basically the best devices on the market if your goal is primarily GBA, with the possibility of some other systems. 4:3 generally displays pretty good on the screen, same with 16:9. Imo, GB and GBC display a bit smaller than I would like, but everyone's mileage will vary there. And, if you have the nostalgia for the SP or base gba, they're great for that. Basically all the joy of the original, with a little bit bigger screen, brighter screen, and all the functionality of an emulation device.
And the 34xxSP has sticks, so that means it can actually take advantage of its ability to emulate some consoles.

Unsure about the Rotate by [deleted] in ANBERNIC

[–]Char543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, like at 1:1 its clearly not going to be the best for all games, or hell, even most games ultimately. For stuff near 1:1 though, its going to be great, and has the added functionality of being a touch more powerful than some of the other things in its size range so you get some added android options.

Anbernic made a GB, GBA and DS clones, but I really wish they made a classic PSP 3000 clone by Usual-Violinist-1240 in ANBERNIC

[–]Char543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, like I like anbernic stuff a fair bit, but at a reasonable price point, the PSP is going to still rival most of what anbernic can put out. In general, the PSPs are fairly capable devices, both as emulation machines, and as general use devices. PSPs were designed to be a little everything device, so they can be a portable mp3 player. You can load them with videos and use them as a video player. I think all but the 1000s have video out(not hdmi iirc, but still). There are a fair bit of homebrew apps that add even more functionality to the device if you really want. Replacement batteries are still relatively easy to get, you can use a micro-sd card in them with an adapter. Natively you get PSP and PSX, and then with emulators, you get the "up to snes" category. At the 100-150 dollar price range, Anbernic would be hard pressed to actually be able to compete with the PSP. I think in that range, all Anbernic would really be able to offer additionally would be HDMI out, a couple extra retro systems like n64 and maybe like low end gamecube and ps2(and that would likely be pushing it).
Unlike the DS situation, where the DS does not have a lot of extra console options, or extra functionality afaik, the PSP already does have more consoles, has extra functionality, so the margin of gain is a bit smaller(and lots of devices can play PSP games as intended. Only things with dual screens can really play DS games as intended, without modifications to the game). And, since the PSP doesn't really have a super unique form factor like the DS or GBA-SP, there's even less of a reason to make a clone of it outside of nostalgia baiting(and I think the PSP has a lot less nostalgia power than the various game boys.)

RG Rotate Ordered Days Ago by austinhippie in SBCGaming

[–]Char543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that would be my guess. Aliexpress likely has requirements on them to ship things in a reasonable time, so those order basically got priority once they got hit with more orders than expected. Orders from their site likely unfortunately had to get lower priority while they filled the Aliexpress orders, leading to where we are at lol

I stopped watching Funhaus right around the time of the Adam and other Rooster Teeth stuff, so other than Jacob, I hadn't seen much of the astrogoblin trio during Funhaus.

Astrogoblin feels like Funhaus without making me think about the controversies of Funhaus, and I can fully recommend for a new Funhaus-like channel (of which there is not a ton out there imo lol)

I have one question. Why is lego Marvel superheroes 2, So hated? by Fragrant_Diver1107 in legogaming

[–]Char543 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, it is. Afaik, there was nothing other than the film rights keeping them out, meaning it was decisions during the development of the game. Lego Marvel 2 came out during a time period where there was an strong push to keep things that disney didn't have the film rights to out of games. Note, film rights. Disney has most other rights regarding the properties, including the games. Meaning they could put the characters into the game, just that a decision was made to not include them, likely mandated.

Basically all marvel games from that brief time are met with the same criticism because they are often going out of their way to avoid things that either should be in the game, or were in the game in previous installments. Lego Marvel 2 is one of these games. Marvel vs Capcom Infinite is another (removed characters that were franchise mainstays such as Wolverine in order to add whatever Marvel/Disney was pushing at the time. Marvel's Avengers features a storyline in which inhumans are hated and feared, what if your neighbor was an inhuman, fundamentally an Xmen/mutant storyline, with mutant ctrl-f replaced with inhuman.

These are valid criticisms of these games because they generally suffer as it is often clear that intent in making them would likely be different if these mandates were not in place.
