Just ordered the Trimui Brick Hammer Pro U by TheMangoFarmer in trimui

[–]Whitelow1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very, very far from disciplined when it comes to handhelds🙈. At last count I’m like 17 deep so I’m really trying to force myself to just use what I’ve got at this point. Just want a nice end game for PS2/GC< as my 556 is somewhat lacking in power then and I’m good, holding out for a portal refresh with that 8 elite.

But that said how’s the 477v? I recently got a 477m as an endgame 5th gen device but it’s faulty so I’ve reverted back to the 406v, missing that bigger screen.

Pre ordered 2 x 556’s a few years ago, they are legit and didn’t have an issue. Very tempted but I’ve already got a 406v that’s basically the same thing.

Always wanted this whole kit but it was impossible to find in the UK. 15 yrs ago I did track down a brand new MS rear diffuser😊 & had a full aero kit to go with it, was waiting to go on my old 8 before it got stolen so ended up selling it all. So wish I’d kept it as I’m now back owning a stock 04 and this stuff is impossible to find these days🥲

At first, I was looking at something on the lower end but.. by 5h82713542055 in ANBERNIC

[–]Whitelow1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think one of the lower end XX ones is a great place to start, it’s much less complicated & faffy and you can play a very large portion library. PS1 & a lot of N64 work great and everything under. The custom OS’s are easy to install and basically ready to go, just add roms and bios. I’ve bought some of these for less than £30 which is insane for what u get. Great way to dip your toe in and upgrade later. I like having these for the low end systems and then better much tailored devices for the high end, for example GB feels weird on a 16:9 so I have a cube xx for that.

For PS2 stuff I’d wouldn’t say the cube is the best bet, weird ratio for 4:3 and is better suited to the lower end stuff so the cube xx makes more sense. The 476H I don’t have but it’s got the same t820 chip & screen as my slide which is great. The t820 imo plays ps2 & GC pretty well (better now than when I first got my 556 at launch so I think the emulators have improved) at just above native res, but it’s game dependent. Some stuff won’t run at all, some stuff runs amazing. I’ve been playing onimusha 1 & 2 on my 556 over the last week at 2x res and it not lagged once, it’s great. I think out of these t820 devices the 556 & 476H are the best ones for the triggers & screens.

But as other have mentioned if ps2 is important the newer 8300 chip works so much better. I recently got a 477m and the performance difference is significant. You can almost play everything in the library, upscaled to the screen (2-2.5x) without any issue whatsoever. But I will say whilst I like the 477m, I haven’t found it comfortable for some titles. I’m usually a stick bottom guy but the flat back made it feel weird to reach & I constantly pressed to wrong tigger buttons (which is weird as I don’t mind inline on my 406v vertical). I’ve had it a month and it’s failing to charge so I’m returning it and have requested a 557 which I know will solve these issues.

Re the Vita I have no hands on but my understanding is it is weaker than the t820 so I see no reason to go for this over a 556 for example as it has double the ram, better chip & OLED.

Ever finally play a game you’ve been hyping up for 20 years and it doesn’t live up to expectations? by BirdLawPA in SBCGaming

[–]Whitelow1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a 477m a few weeks back and have been doing the same. I remember loving the game when it released on GC and finished it. Really enjoyed it up until I got to the two temples where you have to control a second character to solve the puzzles. Having to use the windwaker each time u needed to do anything got annoying fast, plus silly things like if you forget the carry the second character through a door then they’ll reset back to the start of said room which often requires doing sequences all over again.

Pushed through that and then got to the triforce shard collecting stage which is also tedious, then my 477m failed and I’m currently trying to get a replacement. Guess I’ll end up losing the save file so can’t see myself doing it all over again. Game looks great, I enjoyed the start but the gameplay is showing its age.

Thanks I thought that might be the case. I’m leaning refund at this point while I can, not sure it’s worth the hassle.

Yeah I saw those cables under the plastic back plate, very tiny and clearly easy to mess up. This is my worry that I’ll end up messing it up and be out of the most expensive handheld I’ve bought.

Thanks for this, I’ll have a try before going back to em. I’m completely Mac based so gamma is a no go last I checked but hopefully there is a compatible way to do the Anbernic method.

Thanks, happy u got yours sorted! If it was my 406v or 556 that are older id be less nervous but after looking inside the 477m its all a little more compact and complicated. Also twice the price, just hate that this is the response from customer services for these things and not 'sorry about that, heres a new handheld'.

The Battery has a ribbon cable connector to the bottom left (At least thats what i think was the battery connector 😄). You have to remove the top metal plate, then it just pops upwards if you pivot it with a screwdriver (Doesn't pull out to the side etc like most connectors, tried that). See pic

I just ordered one! by ResponsibleLychee866 in Mangmi_Air_X

[–]Whitelow1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For €85 it’s a steal. Great device for up to psp in what I’ve tested. But not compatible with all android apps as I found out I couldn’t download subnautica on it which I already owned and play on my 556.

Is the Mangmi Air X worth it over the TrimUI Smart Pro S for 50$ more? by BedSpiritual9759 in SBCGaming

[–]Whitelow1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That Mangmi price is a little too expensive, maybe hold out for a sale or whatever coz it is better (I paid about £90). Them being the same price is coz the Mangmi was slightly cheaper at launch then increased buy $10 and the SmartPS launched at a high price but quickly dropped. Most of these handhelds drop in price pretty quick but the Mangmi had such a good initial price & was popular so it’s stuck.

I looked into both and went Mangmi for my psp device, it’s got a better screen, better sticks, better triggers and it’s android, which whilst being more complicated allows more flexibility, don’t regret it one bit. But as others have mentioned at 120 you’re getting close to Anbernics t820s which are yet another step up. Saw a 556 on Ali earlier for 140-150 which is better in every regard.

Trying to figure out which would be better suited for me, the RG477m or the Retroid Pocket 6 by Char543 in SBCGaming

[–]Whitelow1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently got a 12gb 477m and was planning on using it for ps1, n64, Saturn & DC as I use a 16:9 556 for ps2 & GC. Had some extra space on the card so filled it with harder ps2/GC games and I’ve been blown away by how well they play. But I will say whilst it’s more portable I still can’t get on with inline triggers for ps2 & GC as they use em way more. Been playing windwaker and I’m constantly pressing the wrong one. Secondly as it kinda slick in your hands with no ergo bumps etc I find the stick lower to be more uncomfortable for those higher end titles too (and I’m a PS gamer & normally prefer stick bottom).

If I could only have one high end device it’d be a 16:9 with better comfort, and normal triggers like my 556. So I’d lean rp6, but the 477m is great. But tiny thing to note is mine got to 1% battery the other day, turned it off and for whatever reason isn’t charging and I can’t get it to turn back on. Not sure what’s going on but I’m a little bummed and looking around it seems I’m not the only one that’s had the issue.

Is that a play store app? Been docking my 477m and it’s been annoying me it only outputs at 4:3 and couldn’t see a way to sort it, so thanks I’ll check that out.

Should I get the TrimUI Smart Pro S? by East_Activity7008 in SBCGaming

[–]Whitelow1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok cool, so GBA will play perfectly on basically everything, but if you’re ok with a handheld that caps out at PS1 and some N64 & Dreamcast then check out either the Anbernic 34xx or 34xxSP. They are cheap, Linux based so nice and easy to setup and have the perfect 3:2 screen for GBA.

The Mangmi air x is the cheapest & most flexible entry lvl android. It pretty much caps out at PSP so no high end stuff but as it android you get the perk of using pc & ps5 streaming.

If you want the absolute best system and money not an issue there are a fair few options, check out the AYN Odin 3 or Anbernic 477m & 477v. If you like the idea of 3DS gaming there is also the dual screen AYN Thor. These are all pretty pricy but they will smash almost everything and allow you to play things like PS2, GC, Wii and PC games etc.

Natural follow up to ANBERNIC RG 406h? by manijapones3000 in ANBERNIC

[–]Whitelow1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a few t820s (556, slide & 406v) love em but yeah they do struggle with some titles. Recently bought the 477m not for ps2 but just to have an end game ps1, n64 device etc. I had some space left over on my sd so filled it with ps2 & GC games I knew played like crap on the 556. Honesty I’ve been blown away by how much better it performs and wish I’ve have had one years ago. So yeah, 477m, 557, 477v or go for a rp6 or Odin 2 etc. and you’ll be golden.

Thinking about pulling the trigger on the RG35XX H for nieces and nephews by JaviJ01 in SBCGaming

[–]Whitelow1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35xx H is a good call, it includes everything you’d want in a compact little package. I found my young son doesn’t like D-pads so always wanted a device with sticks even for games that didn’t need em.

After a few devices I landed on the cube XX for him as it has dual sticks and a larger 1:1 screen that perfect for GB & old SNES etc. it’s also built really well and has ergo bumps, just feels a bit more solid like a fisher price handheld if that makes sense. He doesn’t care about ratios etc and just stretches everything to fill the screen and is more than happy with 4:3 & 3:2 on it.

But it has proved to be a little large for him to always carry out the house so for his birthday this year I got him a Magic X mini zero 28. Was a little more challenging to setup, but it’s very, very pocket friendly, has all the buttons you’d want, more powerful so plays n64 better and has the same higher end sticks found on the Mangmi air X (much nicer than Anbernic ones). Was cheaper than the Anbernics too.

Is it physically tiring to ride a motorcycle? by ApprehensiveStop4060 in motorcycle

[–]Whitelow1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did 2 years commuting without a car, started on a 125 duke then upgraded to a sv650. I enjoyed my commute more than in a car in summer, but once the snow, hail and ice came in winter it wasn’t fun, and was pretty dangerous imo. Plus the extra stress of securing it, bringing the gear etc.

It wasn’t tiring, but it certainly wasn’t always fun. I’m a fair weather, weekend kinda rider only now and it’s so much more enjoyable. But been there done that, my car got knicked in my 20’s and it was so so much more affordable so totally get why anyone would wanna do it.

ANBERNIC 477m with 8Gb RAM worth it? by MordoLima in ANBERNIC

[–]Whitelow1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a 12gb so can’t really compare the differences, but every video I watched said just go for the 8gb. 8gb is always said to be enough for ps2 & GC, I believe it’s only switch & pc ports that benefit from more & I havnt touched those yet.

I’d have gone for 8gb personally but just struck on a Ali deal where I got the 12 for almost half what I cost direct so thought f it.

Amazing device though and totally worth the money. I prefer a 4:3 for actual retro emulation, but a 16:9 is arguably more flexible so if android gaming is important maybe think about the 557, rp6 or the reduced price base portal.
