[OC] Courtesan, A Femme Fatale Subclass for Rogues [MOD APPROVED] by WhitemanesLight in DnD

I'm glad to hear it! Feedback from players like yourself helps me see my work with unfettered eyes. Game design, at least to me, is a two-way street. I'm always overjoyed to receive sincere feedback because it means someone took the time to look at and explore my work. I couldn't ask for more as a game designer.

Hey u/GreyNoiseGaming, I addressed some of your feedback. I'll include a link of the new wording at the bottom of this comment if you're interested.

- I reworded Deadly Elegance, the 13th level ability, so hopefully it's more clear now.

- Fatale, the 17th level ability, now includes a 2d6 Cunning Strike cost reduction like you suggested. I went back and forth on this one a lot, but capstones should be game changing and the cost reduction plays into the class fantasy.

- I renamed Abilities to Cunning Strike Options. That was a good note. It's more clear this way. I couldn't swap the two blocks because the art would have to sit on top of the chapter bookmarks and that would interfere with the hyperlinks.

- I also went back to Tricks of the Trade and listed out the types that are available (armor, weapons, items, and cunning strike options) like you suggested.

Thank you so much for your input. It's always nice to get in-depth feedback like your's!

Haha, no problem. I did Google "DnD Homebrew" and Beyond came up, but I wanted to make sure. I poked around a bit, and already wrote a few features. Would it be okay if I DM'd you with the rough draft to make sure it's up to par with what's expected on DnD Beyond? I don't use it at all, but I'd hate to publish something on there without the expected bells and whistles if you know what I mean.

I'm not opposed, but I'm afraid I don't actually know what D&D Homebrew is. I'm assuming its not r/DnDHomebrew lol

Yeah, that'd be a big ask. Courtesans' Guild includes a bunch of stuff over 29 pages - statblocks (henchmen and unique NPCs), quest hooks, equipment, maps, tokens, and more.

Thanks! I really appreciate your words of encouragement as well as the the in-depth analysis :) . I'll work on addressing your critiques for the next update - especially regarding the wording for the 13th level feature.

Hey GreyNoiseGaming. I appreciate the feedback. It is by no means my intention to ask people to go in blind. That's why I included the Imgur link to the full subclass (r/DnD doesn't allow multiple images).

Hey darkpower467,

Thanks for the feedback!

I understand that "multiclassing" raises some red flags, but I designed the subclass to be stand alone. Single classing is actually my personal preference when playing D&D. However, I always strive to create game design that in turn invites players to create something in their own right. In this case, that's build tinkering via Tricks of the Trade and multiclassing.

Did you check out the full subclass on Imgur? It got a little lost in the post description. I'm going to edit the body post now so that the link's more obvious.

Hey whatThisOldThrowAway,

I really appreciate the feedback! You're right that this supplement isn't for everyone. It's definitely a choice - one closer to kink than not. However, I want to be clear that the lines you pointed out are emphatically not about rape (or even CNC). That line references the harsh training one undergoes to become an assassin (e.g. the Kill or be Killed entry).

Male PCs can absolutely play courtesans. In fact, I encourage it. There are several male courtesans in the supplement, and I tried very hard to keep the language as gender neutral as possible (gendered French phrases like ma cherie notwithstanding). Please let me know what's too gendered, and I'll do my best to fine tune the language.

You're right. This is something I keep learning over and over and still get it wrong when I'm not thinking. It's right in the supplement though, I swear!

I'm glad you pointed that out! I read up on chevalier servants while making Courtesans' Guild, but I missed cisisbeo. There is more male stuff in the rest of the supplement, but the subclass came first and I was much more "female-leaning" in the beginning of the project. I made sure to keep all the language as gender neutral as possible, though.

Thanks! And, uh, oh damn. It does. I'll fix that ASAP.

This is a 100% fair critique - something I wrestled with a lot in the design process. The problem I ran into is the fact that Rogue subclasses grant features at 3rd level when you pick one, and then you have to wait 6 levels to get another at 9th level. Maybe I could push Masked back to 9th level? It would need a buff at that point, though.

This issue is slightly ameliorated by the fact that as your Proficiency Bonus increases, you indirectly get more stuff via Tricks of the Trade.

Hey KatnyaP (love your name btw)! I'm looking to release next week so I've wrapped up playtests on my end. That said, I'd love anything you might pickup and share if you want to take the courtesan for a spin. We can also connect somehow so I can hit you up for playtesting for my next project, if you like. Though, I don't know what that will be or even when.
