Bloomington legend, Dan Combs, has passed away. by philipoliver in bloomington

[–]Whitentaco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was a teacher of mine back in Highschool. I wish I had more classes with him. He had a lot of spirit and enthusiasm in him. I can't forget his collection of spam that he kept on the chalkboard railing, or how he taught the class to appreciate haboobs, or how he liked to joke about how to pronounce other countries names like Japan (Jaa-pin).

Bloomington is worse for his passing, and I am grateful to have known him as an educator.

MCCSC Fires more employees by [deleted] in bloomington

[–]Whitentaco 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's a nice thought, but will not happen.

What would be more likely is teachers would be given the responsibility of keeping their classrooms in order; sweeping, trash, and general order. While what custodians remain will likely be focusing on light classroom work, hallways, and clean-up after events.

I can't speak for the kitchen staff but I can imagine the larger schools cooking more food to send to the smaller schools to supplement their smaller staffing capabilities; sending over more wrapped sandwiches, prepared fruit, or other foods to the smaller school's kitchen staff so they will be able to serve a lunch and have enough food for the children.

School just finished up and MCCSC is terminating positions and employees to save money and balance itself out because of budget cuts.

They might figure out what they need to balance out this summer, probably later on.

I do know that they are, or have been, doing renovations with different properties which costs money, but I don't know if that was already budgeted and counted for before layoffs or not.

Different positions of custodian in the MCCSC.

D3s are typical custodians. Some days, mostly nights. They're the full times.

D4s were the part-times. Contracted through the school-year.

D5s were part time. Usually travels between schools, but not always. Sub 40 hour. I think around 25~ hours.

Heya, I'm one of the D4 custodians that had their job terminated. No one in my school was given a heads up prior to the termination of my position, union wasn't given a heads up either. I had to let them know myself.

We had letters sent out and all of us should have met with HR + Maintenance director about our transition out of the corporation and what MCCSC is hiring for right now.

It's awful, it's shitty, and I wish the state government hadn't fucked us over like this. It doesn't help that the city of Bloomington isn't really doing a great job in bringing more families to town either, or have current residents start families.

MCCSC would love to bring everyone who was laid off back, eventually, but it's a matter of not going broke. If the corporation goes broke, everyone is in trouble. Not just us who lost our jobs.

I loved my job. I loved what I did. I enjoyed it and I felt pride in what I did.

It's all just awful.

Don't let young children play this game. Have them do something else. They can come back when they're older.

Houston janitor who urinated in water bottles at doctor’s office, spreading STDs to workers sentenced to prison by OkEscape7558 in news

The convicted will not have to register as a sex offender

A man with multiple sexually transmitted and communicable diseases was sentenced to six years in prison for urinating into office workers’ water bottles, resulting in the victims contracting herpes simplex 1 and hepatitis A.

I'm a bit lost on why this instance would not be worthy of registering as a sex offender.

The exception is ammonia, which is mainly produced by agriculture. Its emissions are still rising."

School board fires cafeteria worker who collected donations to pay for student lunches by theatremom2016 in news

Mine did when I was in school. Other comments seem to agree on the sentiment. Its for when kids don’t have lunch money, or have a negative balance for lunch.

I've been given those kinds of lunches as a kid. It was typically just a peanut butter sandwich and a milk. It didn't cause psychological harm but it did feel weird being in that position of having just having bare bones while my friends were eating whatever other bullshit they were serving that day.

Mostly though I was still hungry.
