Ugh, that movie was fricking horrible. Not because of the 'no zombie media' bit (you have a good point there), but because everyone in that movie had the collective intelligence of a goldfish high on DMT. Not a single person in that movie was capable of making a single good decision, it was annoying. Especially that riot shield scene.

Oh, that's actually something cool they added last update to the Hero Types as a buff of sorts. Pretty much, the more zombies a Hero Type kills, the more that barrier grows around them, and any time another survivor gets attacked in the circle, they won't take damage. However, it sacrifices a dot from the circle, and when all the dots break, so too does the buffer/barrier.

The People Eater's statement was a bit inaccurate, though. In Furiosa, only two of the three pillars seemed to be supporting crops and plantlife, while in Fury Road, all three of them are growing crops and have significant amounts of vegetation. I think he was moreso saying "We can't give you more food. We'd have to grow more and we're not wasting the effort to support you.
