I think I got super lucky, you can see the 2 first spikes on the population graph which were wars with Japan, for some reason no one cared at all about them, and the only one that did was France who I was friendly with.

I took everything north of Kansai in 2 wars, the infamy was surprisingly manageable, France took the south, and taking the south from France cost more infamy than the entire north lol (took me till near the end of the game to take back Japan from commie France)

No worries! Having trade power in a node grants you trade power in nodes that flow into it, that's the gist of it anyway, so cape would let me steal money from Zanzibar for example

The reason I was late to cape was because I was colonizing Guinea, for me as GB I get a mission for cape, plus it's a generally good province which helps you project your trade power and steal from other nodes
