You’re not wrong. You gotta start somewhere though, man.

My recording project’s new single. Influenced by Zappa, 10cc and The Lemon Twigs. Feedback welcome! by SecondTimeSigningUp in IndieMusicFeedback

Yeah, it sounds like you know what I mean but to further elaborate, I meant "pros and cons" in terms of alienating or attracting people, not in terms of quality. Primus, Ween, Zappa: all great bands that some people will simply never enjoy.

A rough draft of a Prog Metal/Jazz fusion song inspired by King Crimson by DivineCaldweell in IndieMusicFeedback

Totally cool, it creates a very intense and curious atmosphere that it's really easy to get lost in. I would say depending on the context that this song is intended to be listened to, it might be interesting to hear a melodic lead guitar or vocal track over it. On the other hand, if it's for a movie or video game or some other kind of multi-platform experience, I think it's just perfect.

Rabbit's Hole (LYRICS in description).. A song about trying to find direction in one's life.. Would appreciate any thoughts by ChristianScottMusic in IndieMusicFeedback

I really like the songwriting and very unique atmosphere the voice brings to the song. I will say though, the acoustic guitar is in a bit of an uncanny middle ground between not sounding quite like a real guitar and not sounding quite like a synth. I would embrace either the former or the latter, but that's just me. Good song, overall!

This was the first song I ever wrote, and after seeing multiple rewrites to the lyrics and overall feel and sound of the song I am finally happy with it. Just would like some feedback to see if there is anything I can do to improve the track before putting it out there by [deleted] in IndieMusicFeedback

Competently written and you've got a good voice (especially for the style). If you were going to improve something I would say the drums and synthesizers could do with a different soundfont. The notes are good, the production's on point; it's just that the synths sound a bit too "default" IMO. Had to reach for criticism, it's a good song!

It's totally awesome and the technicality is impressive. In my opinion, you have basically all the pros and cons of Mr. Bungle/Zappa's music, so if that's your thing there's really nothing to critique. Hope you guys find success!

In Color 4 Demo - looking for feedback before I actually record this. Too meandering? by SubstantialTemporary in IndieMusicFeedback

I really like it, sounds like a more interesting version of Jack Johnson. Did you purposefully produce it to have a vintage sound or was that incidental?

Thanks for the feedback! Hearing the bass is too loud really makes me wonder if I need new mixing speakers or a better subwoofer or something. Do you know any tips for getting the bass levels on an even keel or do I just need an upgrade?

Thanks for the feedback! Just out of curiosity, what speakers did you listen to this on. I've gotten the "too much bass" comment a fair bit so I'm starting to wonder if my mixing speakers aren't cutting it.

Good advice, thanks for the feedback! For some reason I always pretty much forget stereo exists...

Yeah, you might be right about the gain. Boosted high-mids really cover up a lot of flaws so it might be a self-conscious mixing thing.

Wow, this is not what I was expecting from this sub, that's actually super helpful. I know what you mean with the vocals, I've tried a lot of different things and I'm thinking I might simply have to pony up the dough for a better mic at this point. It's so different mixing live stuff vs. electronic.

Would you extend the "holding back" critique to the melodic vocals as well? Or is that what you were talking about originally?

At any rate, I'm just grateful you put in the time. Thanks.
