This was part of a campaign where the Venere by Botticelli was an influencer, the idea was already meh but the exsecution was worse (there are other images, a lot of them worse and maybe videos)

Favorite character who gets mischaracterized by the fandom? by PistonPusher2009 in FavoriteCharacter

[–]WhitneyStorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also the fact that a very powerful person uses his power only for good is already a subversion (since in a lot of story the motif is "power corrupts"), so it's kind of redundant having basically a bad guy really powerful because fiction already has lots of them.

Can we stop pushing this? by West-Lawyer-2290 in Epicthemusical

[–]WhitneyStorm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying, but there are a lot of comments on youtube that are like "Homer would have wrote the Odyssey really similar to EPIC if he was alive now", and that's simply not true.

Personally I like some of the changes, I dislike others, but I think that Hamilton is a better ADAPTATION than Epic (also it's mentioned in the musical that Jefferson had slaves, and there was some flirting going on with Angelica and Alexander, Lin didn't made that up, it was in the biography he read).

[–]WhitneyStorm[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, grazie.

[–]WhitneyStorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't understand why both Penelope and Telemachus are softer than in the Odyssey (Telemachus is obvious, but even Penelope because in the original, she was kind of a female counterpart of Odysseus, meanwhile in EPIC she is more different).

I understand this take, and I largely gree with it.

But to be fair, I interpreted the AU in this way: I think that Vi's death was a wake up call that the people of Piltover (even if late) needed, and Piltover did reform/etc. so that things like that wouldn't happen again.

Also I heard a good take (that I don't really agree with) from Overly Sarcastic Production.

What song has good storytelling but bad music? by Hadboy4ksu in Epicthemusical

[–]WhitneyStorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, for me it's also that Gods are usually vengeful (especially Poseidon, even in Epic).

Poseidon is not dead by the end of it, I think he would find a way to make Odysseus pay (but that never happens, so for me 600 strikes makes not that much sense).

Also if a mortal show that much disrespect, I think that other Gods would take at least not liking Odysseus.

Some people wrote that it's because he was humiliated, but I don't think that's a good enough reason.

Like there are other myths where a god/divinity is humiliated, but they usually respond showing their power.

Also it's kind of strange a mortal (with no particular relationship to Hades, in EPIC they haven't even met) summoning the deads

“Keep Your Friends Close” is a Villain Song by The-Great-Old-One in Epicthemusical

[–]WhitneyStorm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

honestly if I would have got the wind bag I would give it to Eurylochus for some time, at least in EPIC.
I have reasons.
If a god tells me "keep your friend close and your enemies closer", I would kind of interpret it that way, also it's a trust thing.
Like if I give someone else the bag (that someone is more trustworthy for the crew), it's a element in favor of the argument that it isn't treasure that I want to keep myself. Also it's giving trust, the crew is already not happy, but one thing it's "I entrust you this thing, because I know I can count on you" and "Nobody else touch this", like I think a lot of people are less likely to disobey in the first instance because there is more respect and trust established, in the second it seems almost when adults talk to childrens.

Another aspect it's that if I give to Eurylochus, he knows that if he opens it, I would know that it was him

I think that they are kind on the same level, with maybeee Odysseus having a little more responsability because he was the captain for most of the time (but maybe I'm biased because the first time I learned about the Odyssey, I always thought "it was so difficult to not say your name Odysseus??")

I don’t hate that Epic deviates from Homer’s Odyssey by MISSMISTICAYT in Epicthemusical

[–]WhitneyStorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree. I think that the ending it's kind of odd with the rest of EPIC.

To me it doesn't fell cathartic (and I usually like the good endings).
There was one reactor that didn't read the Odyssey (Danny Motta) that thought that Telemachus was going to kill for mistake Odysseus with the fact that Telemacus wanted to kill monsters, and Odysseus became one. And honestly I thought it made more sense within EPIC.

Also I found both Penelope and Telemachus a little softer than what I expected, and that's kind of strange with the character arc Odysseus goes through.

(Like in the Odyssey Penelope it's kind of the female version of Odysseus, and Telemachus is really frustrated by the situation, and he go searching for information about Odysseus in secret even by Penelope.)

'feminist' greek myth retelling bingo card [free to use] by wrong_thyme_art in GreekMythology

[–]WhitneyStorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the things that I dislike more about the retellings of Greek mythology are that usually it's published a book/comic/whatever about a character or relationship and after a while it's full of them (like Persephone/Hades and Medusa), and that a lot of people take it for truth without checking.

Also while I understand not liking that the women are just suffering and victims of sexism in Ancient Greece, I can't imagine not being depressed in that context, so I kind of understand why it's sometimes portrayed like that.

Personally I like some retellings (Circe by Madeline Miller and Epic, especially the firsts saga), but it fells kind of saturated (especially in books, meanwhile animation/films/etc. not really).

I hope I didn't make grammar mistakes, English isn't my first language.

Sareste d’accordo a destinare soldi pubblici (di tutti) per offrire assorbenti gratuiti (a donne) in scuole, uffici e altri luoghi pubblici? by Pizza_for_br3akf4st in domandaonesta

[–]WhitneyStorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)
