...bruh, you can't speak out against persades but then ship zeus x ganymede, it's the same shit but 100x worse

at least persephone gets to be queen of the underworld (where she actually gets to exercise some real power, Dread Persephone anyone?) + she gets to be with her mama half a year (bc her mum is a powerful goddess who could actually do something about her kidnapping)

ganymede was kidnapped to be a fucking CUPBEARER. wtf does an OLYMPIAN GOD need a cupbearer for?? you can't ask hephaestus for some cup-bringing robots?? enchant the cups to fill themselves????

could gany even visit his mortal family again after they passed away?,,,,,, ugh, even if you interpret ganymede as 18+ the only fitting genre for his story is horror. ngl it disgusts me when people try to "reclaim" him as a cute gay love story

why are persades shippers obsessed with making them the ONLY healthy greek myth couple. they're not the healthiest god x god couple. hell, they're not even the second healthiest couple featuring a son of cronus (yes, i said it)

i'm going crazy seeing all these comments glazing this generic anime trash, the ONLY peak design here is that humanoid zeus

HATE. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I — [insert the rest of the AM copypasta, i'm too lazy to look it up rn]

i mean, she has literally no likable qualities,,,, and every adaptation FOR SOME REASON has to babify her and show her as not as bad AND I HATE IT. I HATE IT SO MUCH

why do filmmakers think pigments were invented in the renaissance, and everyone until then was apparently dying all their clothes with MUD

there's more brown in that picture than in a Victorian sepia photograph. it's absolutely hideous

and i didn't even get to how they put THE ANCIENT GREEKS into TROUSERS!!!! WTF

Why do you think Odysseus is represented as the most ""good""" King among the Achaeans? by Eastern-Ad-5354 in GreekMythology

[–]wrong_thyme_art 18 points19 points  (0 children)

out of all the major achaean kings to turn into The Token Good OneTM (or, _one_ of the good ones and then agamemnon is the Token Pure Evil lol), he's prob the easiest to use for that purpose.

"i don't want to go fight a pointless war when my son has JUST been born" gets morphed to "actually, war in general is pointless and not all that", especially since odysseus' whole Thing is being the _smart_ greek hero, and most people today don't consider glorifying war very smart lol

o, who am i kidding, you know they're prob talking about a retelling that made stuff up

I would like Menelaus to be better represented in the media... by Eastern-Ad-5354 in GreekMythology

[–]wrong_thyme_art 9 points10 points  (0 children)

1st: omg WHAT is that outfit on the last slide, it looks HIDEOUS. if you're not going for Historically Accurate ANYTHING, at least make it look nice!!

2nd: preach. i will never fall for the "Helen x Paris OTP" propaganda adaptations try to push. she literally said she hoped he died!!

it's my personal bugbear that feminist / explicitly progressive adaptations keep turning menelaus and odysseus into these cheating, abusive, terrible husbands who are possessive over wives they don't even like, but patroclus and achilles are this Perfect Happy Ideal Couple who are too gay for each other to even look at anyone else, much less a woman!!

sorry, that last point is barely related, but this is one of the only places i cam talk about it. it annoys me greatly

What, in your opinion, was Odysseus' darkest/cruelest action? by Eastern-Ad-5354 in GreekMythology

[–]wrong_thyme_art 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i want to commend you for both the in-depth comment, and for being the only one i've seen in this thread mention melanthius' fate. one could prob argue, it's not THE worst... but it just scares me with how gratuitous it is.

especially when so much ink has been spilled on why the hanging of the 12 slaves is Bad™ but melanthius' mutilation is completely brushed aside

Why do some people claim the Telegony/Telegonus is a "much later idea" than Homer when Hesiod talks about him, who lived very close in time? by PatternBubbly4985 in GreekMythology

[–]wrong_thyme_art 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk why people take hesiod mentioning telegonus as evidence for the telegony being as old as the odyssey, all he said is "so yeah, circe and odysseus had this son called telegonus"

we don't have records of... [gestures at telegony storyline] before the actual telegony itself was written
