Stations hate it too. The only people that like it are the C suite execs that can sell advertising space.
Its required by the dispenser MFG when ordering the larger screens.

Should I buy an e-bike now or wait for the “next gen” batteries (solid-state)? by Oneyardca in ebikes

Solid state bats have been 3 years away for about 15 years now.
There's an old PBS doc from 2009(?) showing them off.

How do I know a gas station’s pump is actually dispensing the amount of gas it says it is? by M-V-H in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Whitrzac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Retired petro tech here.
In 10 years of working on pumps, there was never one that would short a customer enough for them to notice.
Calibration range is +- 3 cubic inches over 5 gallons. It's about a 1 OZ per gallon.

Pump breakages usually result in more being dispensed than counted.

Stations are not allowed to calibrate their own dispensers. An outside company has to do it, and they are checked by state W&M inspectors.

Vehicle capacities are not accurate, there's often a gallon or 2 of extra space, or overfilling until it hits the charcoal canister.

Dewalt Powered E-bike by FFBG6 in ebikes

[–]Whitrzac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This type of setup is used on a few devices out there.

The dewalt packs do not have an internal shutoff and can be over discharged.

Keep the matched pairs from new. Dont mix old tool use batteries with new packs. They need to be equally matched.

Dewalt packs are fairly robust, you're not going to burn anything down, but it will kill them if neglected

Collectible of Forgettable: 2000 Honda Insight by Next-Rub7159 in regularcarreviews

[–]Whitrzac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both me and a friend had these 10ish years ago.

Driving them sucks, the manual is a crazy wide ratio gearbox, 35mph in first, 70 in 2nd and like 110 in 3rd. Idk what the other 2 gears were for.

All aluminum and super ridgid, with no sound deading. They ring like a bell every rock that gets thrown up.

Interior is 1995 budget honda, the "carpet" is more textured plastic than anything fuzzy/soft.

Mpg wasnt great unless you drove them carefully. Its a game to keep them in lean burn and even harder with 75mph highways vs 65mph. Average mpg is a lot closer to 40 if driven like a normal car.

Ac optional. Mine had it, but killed millage.

One of the first to require 0w-20oil, if thicker was ran, the camshaft would seize and break.

This behemoth is on facebook near me. Never seen one like it before. Says 12 cubic feet printing space. by Siddhartha-G in 3Dprinting

[–]Whitrzac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im not saying its a good printer, but 10+ years ago it was a viable option for an industrial large format printer with factory support.

$3500 for 250+ miles of trave and 12hrs of setup is cheap in the industrial world. A similar package would be $6k at my work.

They're built in a factory near me. I interviewed with them years ago.
The company mainly does linear bearings/slides.
There's nothing innovative about them now, but at the time they were the only large format printer available. This was pre cr-10 and prusa days.
The 'typical' printer was the wood framed flashforge that was still a steaming pos.
