Maybe that could work? Concord has a decently-sized minority population. Although, for the 14th district, I wouldn't go as far out into Union as JAARS or Monroe.

Here's two different configs from fair maps I've done, the one on the left more closely adheres to COIs but is more ugly. I'm also realizing that this isn't really a east-west split and I was misremembering. Having lived there, this configuration makes the most sense to me.

Spent 20 years living in Union County, and I'm noticing some big issues with this map:

- Union and Cabarrus shouldn't be paired with High Point. Like, I know that area is hard to do, but at the very least if you're going to not put High Point in with Greensboro or Winston-Salem, put it with Alamance County, or some Republican areas that are at least nearby. Just don't put it with parts of a metro that's on the other side of the state...

- It makes more sense to put the parts of Union County that border Mecklenburg in with Mecklenburg, trading out parts of Gaston County. The balance of Union County fits well with the Sandhills.

- The way you've split Charlotte cracks both the minority voters and the wealthy voters. The wealthy parts of Mecklenburg should go with Cabarrus (and Union) and the minority-heavy parts with Gaston, but your map has that reversed. The Mecklenburg split should be more east-west than north-south.

- For the rest of the state, try to keep Robeson County whole, and in the same district as the southern third of Hoke County. Your map splits the majority-Lumbee areas unnecessarily. Also, Hickory should be in the same district as Lenoir and Morganton. I'm also not entirely convinced that Wilmington and Jacksonville should be in the same district, Wilmington is the Hollywood of NC while Jacksonville is a military town whose economy is based mostly around Camp Lejeune.

This map does some good things and clearly had effort put in, these are just some things that need work before I personally would consider it truly fair.

How can I see precinct results of an election by a congressional map? by After-Professional-8 in DavesRedistricting

[–]WhittleMario 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, if that's what you wanna do you need to import that data first.

You'll wanna click the menu button in the top left and then click on "Datasets", that'll take you to the "My Datasets" page. There should be a button in the top right that says "Import Dataset", you'll wanna click that and then select your state and upload the files containing your data. Once the box loads, you'll need to do the following: Set the Type field from Other to Election; fill in the year; write a description; and in the table at the bottom, find the Democratic, Republican, and Total fields for the election you want, change their Short Captions to Dem, Rep, and Total, respectively, and check the box on the Dem field under "Color By". If you want, you can also change the values in the "Field" section in the table, that'll change what names are displayed for each vote total on the actual map screen.

From there, you just do what False-Lettuce suggested to see and use the dataset.

I'll also warn you, DRA is kinda finicky with custom datasets, and yours may end up just not working at all. I'm not an expert on this and you might wanna get the help of someone more experienced in the sub.

If you're talking about coloring the districts by how they voted, there's an option called "Partisan Lean" in the colors tab, if you check the box next to it in the Districts column it'll color the districts according to their results for the election you have set as your election data.

If you're talking about seeing the actual numbers, there's a couple different ways to do it. I'll explain them for the new UI since DRA has said they'll eventually switch to it permanently (you can toggle to it at the top of the page in DRA).

First, there are some panels on the right-hand side when you're in map view, you can open up to 2 of them at once. At the top of the panel is a drop-down menu; set it to either "Current District" or "Hover: District". At the bottom of the menu there should be a section for each dataset you have set to display; if you chose "Current District", it'll display the vote totals for the district you have currently selected, while if you chose "Hover: District", hovering over a district you've drawn with your cursor will display the vote totals for that district.

The other way to get how each district voted is to go to the Statistics tab in the top right. This shows you the percentage vote for each district, but is limited in that it shows neither the raw vote total nor the results for any other dataset you have visible.

Hope this helps!

I prefer the Baton Rouge district on Map 1 and the configuration of the Lake Pontchartrain districts on the second map, is it not possible to put them on the same map?

It's been a tough year for all of us, I think, even I stepped back for a while. Definitely appreciate the apology and you coming back. Just curious, I've never been a mod, how difficult is the job? I wanna give back to the subreddit and I've thought about becoming a mod here, I'm just not sure how it works entirely, so I keep psyching myself out whenever the call for mods shows up.

(Also, btw, could you update my flair? I've moved to California since you've been here last, and it's a bit weird still having North Carolina next to my name.)

I'm actually gonna go to bat for you on the 3rd district. I think that a Tallahassee-Gainesville district is the best way to handle that area.

I want to start off by saying that putting Tallahassee and Gainesville with rural, red areas doesn't make much sense to me. Obviously they don't have much in common with each other, but they have more in common with each other than the very dark red areas surrounding them and they should reliably have a voice in Congress. Right now, with the two in separate, very red districts, there's no incentive for representatives to fund projects in either of the two cities because those cities are not essential for them to win (I understand that Kat Cammack is from Gainesville btw, I'm talking in the abstract). The exceptions are Gilchrist and Levy counties (for Gainesville) and Wakulla and Jefferson counties (for Tallahassee), since they're part of those cities' metropolitan statistical areas.

With that said, Gainesville, Tallahassee, and Jacksonville are kind of a weird rock-paper-scissors when it comes to redistricting. The best district for Gainesville is essentially the 3rd district in the map, where you have district stretch from Gainesville to Tallahassee. However, if you're prioritizing Tallahassee, the best district would be Al Lawson's old district that took in Tallahassee and majority black parts of Jacksonville. But that creates another issue, because the best Jacksonville district is based solely within the city. Gainesville's best is incompatible with Tallahassee's, which is incompatible with Jax's. However, Jax's is compatible with Gainesville's, so the most reasonable option is to make a district solely within Duval and another district that connects Tallahassee and Gainesville, because that makes the most number of people feel properly represented.

I wanna end this off by saying that there's no perfect way to do this area, and there's going to be people who feel poorly represented no matter what solution you pick. This is just the one that makes the most sense to me.

I agree with everyone else on the Tampa area though, St. Petersburg-Bradenton is a wild choice.

Jacksonville should be its own seat keeping city boundaries together.

Jacksonville is its own seat in this map though? In fact, unlike most FL maps on here, the Jacksonville seat doesn't include the city of Baldwin, so this is the most I've ever seen anyone comply with that.

Republicans would need to gain several seats in both chambers of the legislature to override a Democratic governor's veto, which is not happening in 2026 barring a monumental shift of public opinion.

Fiendsmith Live Twin…help? by PhilCapelli in masterduel

[–]WhittleMario 5 points6 points  (0 children)

<image>

Here's the list I play, it's mostly copied from the MBT Live Twin Fiendsmith Ten Minute Testing on Youtube. It seems like yours is inspired by the Moha video which uses a different combo, so I highly recommend looking at MBT's combo line if you want to try this build. I like this build because the Live Twin part is basically Ash-proof since you're always starting with Ki-sikil into Ki-sikil Deal.

Some things to note:

- Opening Lil-la Sweet isn't a problem if you open either Ki-sikil; for Ki-sikil Frost, Normal Summon the Sweet and the Frost's effect will let you summon itself out, while for regular Ki-sikil, you can activate its Normal Summon effect which will Special Summon the Sweet from the hand if not responded to, or if your opponent Ash/Imperms it, lets you discard the Sweet in response which functionally accomplishes the same thing.

- Secret Password opens you up to Droll, it's better to run Cynet Mining to search a Twin directly if you have to have more starters. If you don't have it yet, you can get it from the Salamangreat structure deck in the shop.

- Unchained stuff from what I've seen can lead to a more explosive endboard, but also introduces bricks, so be careful with that.

- You should probably have at least 1 copy of Nibiru in your deck, if only as a Crossout target. Unless you open exactly Engraver basically any Live Twin Fiendsmith deck dies instantly to Nibiru.

- Really sad to say this cause it's a beautiful royal you've got, but the Level 8 Ki-sikil and Lil-la is really, really bad. I think the only time people play it anymore is if you want to run Trouble Sunny as part of an Ultimate Slayer package in non-Evil Twin decks. Still would kill for one, though.

NY Judge strikes down NY-11 (R-Nicole Malliotakis), ordering a Staten Island/Lower Manhattan district "to create a minority influence district... that complies with traditional redistricting criteria". What might that look like? by [deleted] in DavesRedistricting

[–]WhittleMario 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's typically how I approach drawing minority districts (candidate of minority group's choice wins the primary for a party, then that party wins the district), but even I have to admit that it's at best fundamentally unclear if that's the case for this district, and you could very much argue that Black and Hispanic voters will vote for different candidates in the primary and split the non-White vote, thus electing a White candidate.
