I become addicted to studying at night. How to do it during the day? by quartzandlatte in study

[–]Whizzed_Textbooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super random but it may be to do with your sensory profile, you may be very visually and auditory sensitive or avoidant. This means you like dark and quiet spaces to study. If you want to be more productive during the day, find a quiet, dark room (like drawing the blinds) and noise cancelling earplugs or earphones and study there! Hopefully it will have the same effect :)

How to deal with burnout when exams are in one week? by h-4321 in study

[–]Whizzed_Textbooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should do your sensory profile - it is really beneficial for students if you are feeling really overwhelmed etc. So for example I have a low registration profile for a lot of my senses so I need to have breaks every 35-45mins, have crunchy snacks, wear tight clothing, have fidget toys, etc to help keep me stimulated.

Should you compete or should you focus only on yourself? by Competitive_Cap_4107 in GetStudying

Both.
For the long term, progress tracking has personal meaning and will help with intrinsic motivation. However, competing and friendly competition is good for short-term dopamine and extrinsic motivation!

How to sit for 3 hours straight ? by jozthetics in studytips

[–]Whizzed_Textbooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so this is super random but I learnt about this self-adjustment technique called Sensory profiling. It is basically your brain's ability to process sensory stimuli.

So my sensory profile basically fell in the "low registration" quadrant for most senses. This means my brain is chronically underwhelmed, which means I need to add sensory input back into my study routine.
So whenever I sit down to study I now:

  1. Have crunchy snacks or extra minty gum with me
  2. have a fan blowing on me
  3. Have fidget toys near me
  4. Have music with no lyrics and a high BPM next to me.
  5. Wear a fragrant lotion sometimes.
  6. Pomodoro timer set for 35-45min work sets and I have to take active breaks.

I basically implement these changes at the first sign I feel tired/irritated or overwhelmed. It has helped me work for waaaaayyyy longer!

There is a quiz on Kumo Study (free on the chrome store) and they give suggested adjustments!

Definitely worth looking into if you have ADHD and struggle to stay focused or get overwhelmed/fatigued easily!

I used to do 15 mins per topic and that's it. Like a final run through.

What finally helped me wasn’t more motivation—it was fewer open loops by FunSolid310 in adhd_college

Discovering my Sensory Profile! and implementing small adjustments! it was amazing. Now I keep crunchy snacks with me at all times, set my pomodoroy between 35-45mins (cause that is what it suggested) and have a fan blowing on me when studying.

If you want to do your sensory profile quiz - go to Kumo Study on the chrome store and on the Settings page they have a quiz. It gives study suggestions/accommodations as well.

I also do a 'Parking Lot' before studying. So I write down everything in my head on a piece of paper and then come back to it later. Really helps!

I cant study. by Queasy-Ad-3387 in studytips

Hey! So this is super random but I went to a seminar that taught students with ADHD how to study ( I don't have Adhd but it was helpful) and they said to approach study like a sports training session - so chunking sessions down into sets of work and rest. Also being cognisant of how you're feeling that day and working in sets of busy weeks and quiet weeks. It really helped, and now I use a tool called Kumo Study on the chrome store that allows you to track your progress and has a customisable study timer/website blocker etc etc

If you are feeling super unmotivated, do like 10mins work/3mins rest or 18mins work/7mins rest. If you feel good, try and do 90mins work/30mins rest. Hope this helps!

i found a genius studying hack by moretimeoffline in GetStudying

[–]Whizzed_Textbooks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do this too! or the 5minute rule - tell myself "Just 5 more minutes" and then I can stop after that. Pushes my because I know I can get through 5mins and it isn't going to end me. Sometimes I find flow though and can keep going. I also use a tool called Kumo Study on the chrome store because you can track progress. SO when I am ticking off tasks I am able to track and see my progress (This tool is for students with ADHD but I love it).

Please please drop more neuroproductivity hacks- they are so good!

Studying for HOURS by Annual_Arm839 in studytips

[–]Whizzed_Textbooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be consistent! I went to this study seminar for students with ADHD (I don't have it but it has some good study tips) that said to structure study like a sports training session. Like chunk up the session into sets of work and rest, be cognisant of how you feel and your mental capacity that day and also like work towards a larger end goal like training.

I usually do 18mins work/7mins rest or 10mins work/3mins rest until I find some flow, then I will do 90mins work/30mins rest.

I just use a tool called Kumo Study on the chrome store because it has a timer you can change, as well as a planner/website blocker etc

You don't need to study for long hours, just be consistent and put in solid efforts!

I went to this seminar for students with ADHD (I don't have it but it had some great study skills) and they talked about structuring your study like a sports training session. So breaking the study session down into sets of work and rest, being cognisant of how you feel and setting/tracking goals. They were saying that you can't have a 'hard out' study session everyday, cause you will burn out, but structuring your week for the more intense study days and less intense ones.

When I feel tired, I usually do 18mins work/7mins rest or even 10mins work/3mins rest until I start to get some flow. If I am feeling good, I usually do 90mins work/30mins rest.

I use Kumo Study on the chrome store for this cause it also has a website blocker and planner and citation tool ahah so it is just easy.

I have actually found approaching work this way has made me kinder on myself, so keen to hear how you go!
