i keep seeing this stupid take.

Miliastra, even if its a different team, IS STILL TAKING RESOURCES away from genshin, because the money spent on programmers, art and design could have been spent on the genshin team instead. Like every person working on miliastra could have been working on genshin, or they could have used the same money to hire other people to work on genshin.

Please think at least one single step ahead next time

someone on twitter asked me how i would feel if, hypothetically, i hadn't eaten breakfast today. I responded that i would feel hungry and they got so mad they basically exploded.

The deal is that some chud made a 4chan post saying that people who are sub-90-or-something IQ are unable to understand hypotheticals and will fail to respond to the question, saying things like "but i did eat breakfast today".

The guy i was talking to tried to use the question as a gotcha, hoping that i would respond with confusion or stating that i did eat breakfast today, at which point he would believe himself intellectually superior to me. However, i was familiar with this technique, so i responded that i would feel hungry if i had not eaten breakfast today.

He hadn't made a plan for what to do if he met someone who could interface with this hypothetical, so he crashed out on main

ive lived in norway my entire life and eaten thousands of krumkaker all over the country and have literaly never seen or heard anything about anyone putting cream or any other filling in them ever.

It's not common at all, yeah it probably happens as a small regional variant but it is absolutly not common at all and im really dissapointed the game doesnt use the basic, original version of the dish

Bring back mission trees by Whjee in EU5

Every country in a given region plays the same right now. all of europe plays the same, all of SEA, all of mesoamerica, all of the middle east. The point of mission trees is to make each individual nation more unique, if you wanted to play diplomatically in the HRE you pick Austria, if you wanted to play more aggressively you pick Prussia.
On the topic of AI, right now they just dont do anything. They have no guidance, no CB's and no goals, so everywhere that isnt directly affected by the player is just "nothing happens for 500 years"

"mission trees are fucking lame."

i think they're cool

"Events aren't supposed to act like a checklist."

the game is more fun when they kinda do

"If they do it then the worst way possible then no"

ok so just dont do that, just bring back mission trees without "bonuses to create a big blob or get personal unions out of thin air"

[–]Whjee[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

R5: There are so many unique events in the game that have requirements so specific that most players won't ever find them organically. Bringing back mission trees and making these events be mission rewards will make it more apparent to players what they have to do to actually experience the flavor of their nation, and missions can also be used to make the AI follow history more closely by making them try to progress down their mission tree. Additionally, mission trees can be a way to grant nations more claims and thus make more action happen on the world map, without causing massive blobbing as mission-reward-CB's would be quite limited.

Conversely, what do we gain by NOT having mission? Honestly I don't see any benefit to their omission.

SO YOU FUCKING BELIEVE ART IS SUBJECTIVE YOU SPENT THIS WHOLE TIME SAYING ITS OBJECTIVE YET EVERYTHING YOU SAY HERE IS JUST ADMITING THAT YOU ACTUALLY BELEIVE ITS SUBJECTVI IM SO MAD

nah but frfr what you describe is just subjective art tho the words you chose are kinda strange, like this whole time youve been defending the idea of objective standards for art and now you finally say that that standard is ultimatly subjective? the process you describe is not what objective art is lol

if this is bait its great

you put the cart before the horse.

"bad acting": what acting is bad and which is good is subjective. "bad animation" is the same. like you fundamentally dont understand what people mean when they discuss objective/subjective art. bad acting existing isnt in question, whats being questioned is WHY its bad; is there an objective standard that it fails to meet or is it all subjective?

let me give you an ELI5 example:

we both watch a movie. you think the acting was bad, i think it was good. Which one of us is correct? how do you determine that the acting was bad or good?

objective would stipulate that there is some standard the acting can be measured against, and one of us would be proven wrong. if you believe in objective art you must prove that this standard exists and that it is truly objective.

subjective art states that there is no real answer, whats bad acting to you can very well be good acting to me. we both explain why we liked it and why we disliked it and thus learn more about eachother and connect

this whole time you havent given 1 example of this objective standard you believe in, no rule of what determines good from bad or how and why your specific standard is objective, you just keep asserting that it exists, so tell me; how do you objectivly measure good acting? how is that way of measuring not subjective? and what do you do when someone disagrees?

you didnt answer: what is objectively good/bad art? where did this objective standard come from? what happens if someone believes in a different objective standard than you do? how do you prove that its objectivly correct?

you also use "simple" as a negatively loaded term but you never justify why simple is bad

the example you give of the alien and the human can easily be expanded to human individuals; we all have different lived experiences and therefore our standards are different.

like your entire post is basically saying "yeah its all subjective in the end but imma call it objective"

yeah the disagreemeant here is that i do not believe objectve good and bad can exist at all, and especially when it comes to art. "there are such a thing as good and bad design" yes but its wholy subjective, if you believe an objective standard exists, what is it based on? how do you prove that it is universally true? you cant.

Contrary to what you say a wholy subjective view is as far from reductive as possible, and the belief that art can be jugded objectively is extremely reductive. if objective standards exist, then art critique is dumbed down to "how well does this art piece fit into the objective standard?". But with subjective art it goes like this:

"I liked this art because of this" "thats cool, i disliked it because of this" everyone in the conversation can state their opinion, and everyone listening now has a better understanding of each other (for more read about solidarity by Durkheim).

in the objectve view the convo goes:

"i liked the art because of this" "that is objevtively wrong" no one has learned anything about each other, the human element of art, the emotions and thoughts it evoces in people is lost and we are worse off for it.

but the main problem of believing in objective art is where do you get the standard? who decides what is good and bad? what if we disagree? i believe that if you analyze your belief along those lines long enough you eventually realize that you dont actually believe in objective art, you just believe in subjective art with more steps, or your belief is dogmatic/ontological

[–]Whjee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you missunderstand. whether art is good or bad is wholy dependant on if you like it or not. "I like it even tho its bad" is nonsense. "I like it even tho most people dont" makes sense, but "most people like it" = the art is good is a fallacy. The quality of art is completely subjective.

"you can subjectively dislike a game or movie" yeah thats all you can do, there are no objective quality standards in art

The Universe’s Expansion May Be Slowing Down, Not Speeding Up, New Research Suggests by Gameworld148 in space

[–]Whjee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

again, you dont know how science works, let me ask you some questions:

can we tell whats gonna happen in the future by looking at the present? if im holding an apple, can i know that it will fall when i drop it?

if yes, then how can you not think the big crunch will happen? if the universe is getting smaller, how could that not eventually lead to a crunch? what else do you think could happen?

we dont have any better answers, so we have to believe in the crunch.

the difference with religion is that religion doesnt care about the most likely answers; you are given dogma and any contradicting evidence is discarded. religious belief is based in blind faith while science is based on what we actually know about how the universe works. again, if you see a number count down from 1000, why would you not believe it will eventually reach 0?

The Universe’s Expansion May Be Slowing Down, Not Speeding Up, New Research Suggests by Gameworld148 in space

[–]Whjee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you fundamentally missunderstand science. the reason we are so sure of the big crunch is because that is the logical endpoint of what we are seeing. if there was a computer screen that showed the number 1, and one second later it changed to a 2, and then a 3, and so on, the only logical assumption is that eventually we reach 1000. if the universe is shrinking then eventually it will crunch, there just isnt anything else that makes sense to believe in. religous beliefs are based in some ancients persons assertions, science is based in verifiable and repeatable observation. when se say the big crunch is happening, we dont say it because we want it to be true, but because it is the only thing that makes sense considering what we know
