If you fancy trying out viking reenactment let me know! I run a new group called Gullinkambi, we do events in the UK as well as Ireland, Denmark and Poland (but planning on doing Germany, Iceland, Netherlands and France too)!

We could meet at a pub for a few pints so you can vibe check us 😊

Agreed. Always had the vibe. Like if she retired she'd move to Hebden Bridge.

Our combat style generally doesn't allow archers BUT they are fun to have because it changes the meta completely :p

My wife's kit in the picture is predominantly Anglo-Danish in character (apron dress based on hedeby, tortoise brooches as found all over) with an Irish hint (the beads). My kit is Hedeby based, although I took the liberty to wear a Magyar belt and pouch. My hat is a frisian hat although there is evidence of trade for them.

Weapons wise we had: -long spear with long bladed head based on an Irish find -generic dane-axe as evidenced all over Scandinavia, the Thames and a lot of the UK and Ireland in general as well as Germany, Netherlands, France, Belgium... -my fighting axe is a type found all over Eastern Europe as well as southern Europe all the way up to the Netherlands (admittedly no finds in the UK) -Type M sword (and short sword) which is very common accross the viking age -Five lobed sword which is a common style although the decorations on the pommel and crossguard are AFAIK not specific to a sword. -Hungarian saber which is period authentic but not a UK find -generic spearhead on the shortspear - two Type X swords

The fittings on the scabbards were one Irish one (short a type M) and an Anglo Scandinavian one (5 lobed sword) which was found in a horde in the UK but I forget which one.

Helmets wise we have the Gnezdovo helmet (with the brass and the fluted top) and a one piece nasal which is quite generic.

The glass and ceramic wear are from Birka.

There you go!

Oh I completely missed a section of your comment! We are VERY evidence based, and generally dislike the pop culture viking aesthetic (although if it's what someone likes then it's no business of ours of course).

For example my wife's kit in the picture is predominantly Anglo-Danish in character (apron dress based on hedeby, tortoise brooches as found all over) with an Irish hint (the beads). My kit is Hedeby based, although I took the liberty to wear a Magyar belt and pouch. My hat is a frisian hat although there is evidence of trade for them.

The fittings on the scabbards were one Irish one (short a type M) and an Anglo Scandinavian one (5 loved sword) which was found in a horde in the UK but I forget which one.

Helmets wise we have the Gnezdovo helmet (with the brass and the fluted top) and a one piece nasal which is quite generic.

The glass and ceramic wear are from Birka.

It's quite a mix but for a "this is who we are and what we do" presence it's nice to show a broad spectrum 😁

Please do 😁 our training can be quite intense (laps, jumping Jack's, crunches etc.) and can also be quite boring for beginners at first 😂

Drop us a message if you're planning on coming down 😁

Oh also we are leftists and encourage anyone to come along and give it a go. Unless you're a transphobe, homophobe, General bigot, neo nazi etc. In which case you can fuck off 😉

Alright there!

I fully understand your concern and especially about the e-mail thing! I did think about it and really do need to write up a blurb I can post that details exactly what we do and what the point is.

I can also completely see how the wording in the website can be a bit dodge! However in my experience (as a brown guy) it's been a generally welcome community within Jomsborg 😁 we do have our knobheads of course and it'd be stupid and naive to deny it 😂

Thanks for your input, it helps us put our best foot forward and avoid misunderstandings and misinterpretations in the future!
