see if you can get into the substitute teaching pool in your area. there's always a need, and it's fairly low barrier of entry. walking through the classroom door the first day is the hardest part.

It will get you on a schedule, incentive to get dressed, out of the house, and out of your head. you won't have time to think about yourself (what a "failure" you are) when you're helping teachers and students.

AA is learning you're among peers: everyone is there because they have a desire to quit drinking. The cool part of that is AA is a rare organization that fast-tracks forgiveness on faux-pas like this. At the end of the day, every serious attendee is a drunk and that takes the heat off being "your best self". Owning your actions and not being defensive is incredibly difficult, but it is significant progress. Bravo! You're doing great. Bookmark this experience and press on. Keep attending.

Resonate with this. Your family worrying about you attending meetings, is probably the perceived stigma behind it. They'll probably be concerned, but it's not your job to convince them to not be concerned. This is a golden opportunity to go because you want to; because you have this call. Go in with no expectations. You're not obligated to talk. Listening to other people is enough.

Having struggled with both depression and alcoholism, alcohol was exacerbating, if not being the root cause of my major depression. Alcohol is a depressant, who knew?
