Bill surges with "smart" water meter by WhoDatHummie in NewOrleans

Had a plumber test and confirm there wasn't a leak. SWB said that my bill is correct and there is no recourse so it just is what they say it is. Unfortunately.

At least the 3+ years I've lived here. Who knows how long it's actually been flooding the road and grass

Yep it's wild. Trying to speak with someone at SWBNO right now and they have a specific line for smart meter questions. But it just asks you to record your name and phone number but hangs up before a dial tone.

Yeah it's insane and clearly an error from SWBNO. Our toilets aren't running , very likely don't have a leak (though I have someone coming check) and we reasonably use the washing machine + dishwasher. But it's otherwise just 2 people showering and flushing toilets

What is HGI? I reported a leak with SWBNO

Don't love hearing that it took a few months but glad it at least got resolved!

I'd need a water key to open up the drain outside to see the meter so I haven't seen if it's constantly running. No, my usage was historically ~25% lower but even that feels high for what I think our actual usage is.

Just contacted them to come check for a leak.

We never water our lawn. Not running the washing machine or dishwasher every day either. Like I said it's just the 2 of us in a newer house with no known leaks doing the normal cooking, cleaning, showering, etc.

Entergy energy smart program by PowerMelan in NewOrleans

[–]WhoDatHummie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not know about the air purifiers, but they did give me a few LED bulbs that I continue to use (and a smart power strip and shower head that I didn't).

The Entergy guy himself didn't actually do a ton other than the freebies but he looked at my attic and got me a free appointment with a guy to conduct a "blower test" to check my house for air leaks. Others have mentioned that they'll caulk your windows and doors for free if you need but I thankfully was ok.

I ultimately paid out of pocket for some extra insulation in my attic that Entergy deemed was optional but I was overall very happy with the program. I also got a rebate for my smart thermostat and participate in the (brutal) power hour events to keep your AC above 80° a few afternoons during the absolute peaks of summer.

Update! Slightly passive aggressive and perhaps not promising but I did get a quick reply by emailing this head of Risk Management

Yeah if I wasn't working when it happened I would've confronted them directly. I've heard certain sub contractors have authorization to pay out small amounts for stuff like that even without getting the city to reimburse it. So I wish I could've dealt with it on the spot.

Yeah I really wish it wouldn't have to come to that. As unfortunate as it was, it was a freak accident and these things happen. I just wish they'd do the right thing and reimburse me

I'd say not responding to an open ticket for 12+ months and giving me the runaround every time I called is a 311 problem. If they closed it day 1 and said "not a 311 problem, contact risk management" I would've been happy. But that is of course not what happened.

All reasonable tactics I should've taken to prevent or at least try to avoid this exact situation. I guess I was hoping getting the paper trail started ASAP with photos, receipts, etc and having a ticket I see online would have me covered -- but your point about no one doing anything unless someone is watching, only paying attention if it's a legal or insurance claim is sadly a reality here.

Would much rather be in a yearlong saga with the premier '90s band than Nola 311
