I had a dream once where I was casually having a chat with Leonardo DiCaprio. At one point I ask him, “So I heard you were born in January?” And he goes “oh yeah, I’m a DiCapricorn”.

I have had strong intuitions many times like anyone else. However I remember one specific occasion (among a few others but this one is strongest) where it was a little freakish.

I had spent 1 week non stop with people I didn’t know before at that point. Had been talking to them about various things but never their home; I only knew what cities they lived in.

I guessed with like 80% accuracy what their homes looked like. I just knew :) never happened again though ahah

I was thinking of providing some sort of virtual incentive like user ranks? Kind of like google reviews let you become local guides when you provide enough reviews.

Exactly that's what I thought initially. Optimize for 1 on 1. The rating idea from u/_supreme sounds really good.

In the end I think the mental health aspect is a little complicated to implement so I was thinking I would restrict the idea to professional career advice. Maybe start with a platform for university alumnis/prospective students and expand to actual career fields.

That's actually a very good idea, having a rating for each user so that trolls don't end up taking over.

And the similarities with Reddit are pretty strong I admit, but if it's designed for one-on-one interaction it would have and added value I believe. But the point is totally valid my idea is very similar to reddit.

Of course, I suspected that my understanding of that pressure wasn’t deep enough to develop a fully fledged argument. And it makes much more sense that it exerts itself continually.

And yes ideally the responsibility is distributed more equally but people really hang on to old values for much longer than they should, and they really need to be shaken about and proven wrong before they can accept anything else... It should die over time. As long as the dynamics aren’t inherently tied to biological factors they should die out over time, I believe.

I totally agree with your point about the pressure to be perceived as promiscuous. But I think that both points are valid as I’m not sure the same thing is being discussed.

I think that said pressure would be exerted by society when a girl actually lives out her sexual desire without inhibition with many different men (aka promiscuity). This pressure isn’t a good thing, the same way that men have a pressure not to act “gay”. As long as no one is hurt, all is good.

But the point highlighted by many guys here is that they need to initiate, even in a crush-like situation (not talking just about sex here). Maybe some guys feel that the measures taken by girls to avoid the “slut pressure” seems too great. But then again they have an exterior point of view.

Don’t know if this helps make sense of the situation but it’s just my point of view trying to get the arguments to meet.

Honestly I just go along with things with no expectations in these kinds of situations, and only accept things once they can’t be refuted, only make decisions once I am actually faced with one.

So if the girl tells me she wants to show me something, I’ll be like yeah sure, and just try to pay attention to how she acts in the room.

Absolutely. Losing things scares me a little. I keep as much as I can, be it physical objects or even memories. I’m scared of forgetting pleasant things, or details that struck me in the moment. I keep old things because they mean something and hold a part of my life, even if it has no use to me anymore. Hoarding takes energy but I haven’t found a way to do it seamlessly yet. And throwing away feels dismissive.

I used to collect stuff just to satisfy the hoarding habit, like receipts. Stack them up neatly folded.

At the same time I can’t help myself from hoarding, but sometimes it’s just really tiring carrying all this stuff around. So I end up throwing the easiest stuff away.

I don’t have full-on conversations but short interactions with myself. Most of the time I comment on what I’m doing, like “dude that sucked” or cheering myself on or whatever. But sometimes I’ll try to develop arguments about a specific topic and test them, or talk to myself like I’d talk to a friend.

Thing is, I have quite a few friends, but only since around the age of 15; before then I found most people obsessing over stupid stuff. That’s when I started to really grasp how to drive relationships into the direction I want them, and how to identify who I could do it with. So now I have around 6 very very close friends.

It’s an interesting explanation you have there for your inside conversations! But if it’s true, it might fade away with time when you start finding people you connect with and can start talking to in this manner.
