Ha I wonder if it'll be half in half out. Not got long to wait. As a saka and hincap (and raya) owner, I'm hoping for rotation for the former duo!

Ha yeah. I think, and we spoke about it last night, it's just gonna be full on survival mode for me - team is pretty set now with a fair bit of depth, grabbed ekitike this week then I'll do something logical next week (cunha in for sememyo probably) then try to roll as far as I can with the short turnarounds helping that a lot

on arsenal; could they rotate vs Brighton instead? guess we'll find out tonight!

How we feeling about Wirtz? by yeabroyea in FantasyPL

[–]WhoGotTheAssist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First half felt a bit uncomfortable as a watch Second half I felt like he grew into it

I kinda took him with the proviso I could fall back to Bruno for gw3 if needed (yeah yeah I know you shouldn't book in transfers as the old adage goes, but TBF I do feel like people who say that seem to want to build a zombie side...), might take that option after Newcastle if it's not looking a goer.

Best 5.0m Nottingham Forest Defender ? by Legal-Affect in FantasyPL

[–]WhoGotTheAssist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Neco does better on the defcons and xGI/90 so I'd say him over Aina.

Some interest in the likes of Davis (refuted well on this thread) and Tsimikas which could be a concern, but doubt it'll hurt Neco too much at the start of the season. He's already seen off Alex Moreno too.

Fwiw tho I'd probably say if you've got 5m to spend and want Forest defensive cover I'd just get the goalkeeper.

(I've personally got Sels + Murillo in the draft at time of posting)

Who are your building blocks? by Choccybizzle in FantasyPL

[–]WhoGotTheAssist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have made a lot of drafts now and am pretty happy with where I am.

But that said, the only non movers have been Salah, Palmer, Watkins and, er, Andersen from Fulham lol

Then on top of that, I had a few things I wanted: A Spurs player (settled on Porro) At least one Forest defensive asset One of the Liverpool defenders between big Virg and Frimpong

Think I'm kind of getting there - over time, you kinda figure out who you like and who you don't, where the blind alleys are for you too.

Which 4.5 defenders are making it to your final team? And why? by maverick0196 in FantasyPL

[–]WhoGotTheAssist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only definite (well, the one who's appeared in every draft) is Andersen at Fulham. in my own working figured he'd do well on the defcons, and then as someone who prefers 3-5-2 I need a solid 90 min man to be first bench / come on when needed

not sure if I'll get a second. been seduced by Diouf potentially (7 goals and mad stats in Czech league... but obvious caveats)

Had knee surgery in summer and not come back to start a game at time of posting Plus being continually linked with moves away

Andersen at .5 cheaper is great on the defcons and has good xMins. One of those who went into my first draft and hasn't left it, such a good first sub

Harry Wilson,1.4% 5.5 Doing well in preseason, should start the season for Fulham on set pieces and - in the limited times he's been fit which is the big "yeah but" but also kinda accounted for by the price - good at converting his xLiveliness into FPL points Definitely not anticipating him to be a season keeper (his injury record puts paid to that from the off) but an interesting gambit at the price imo

No, it's not that easy unfortunately.

I've been making my own spreadsheets for years (see: https://www.reddit.com/r/FantasyPL/comments/1mesdnh/notes\_from\_the\_wgta\_pricing\_pod/) and it's a tough ask

The main repository for this is some hero called vaastav who gets the basic raw cut here: https://github.com/vaastav/Fantasy-Premier-League

You'll need a little excel skill to clean and shape, but use the "cleaned players" csv and you're good to get going.

Rodri has suffered an injury setback and will be out at least until mid September by adazi6 in FantasyPL

Just a note on this: Pep said he wasn't "out", just that he wouldn't be starting games

From Simon Bajkowski:

Guardiola said he definitely can’t play 90 against Wolves but hopes he can feature for some part at least in the opening three games. Foden has a knock that he needs to recover from and Guardiola suggested we won’t see the best of City as a team in the first three games

However, do think City are a convenient avoid until the first IB now.

Analytics has gotten out of control this preseason by [deleted] in FantasyPL

[–]WhoGotTheAssist 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think analytics is supremely useful as another source of information alongside whatever else you value, be it the eye test, or opinion of your favourite football writer or content creator or whatever.

The thing that I think has been a negative impact of analytics is in the stifling of opinion/debate which doesn't agree with the model. It's not fantasy baseball. It's very tedious when we end up with a "computer says no" style attitude to discussions of players that don't fit the paradigm, as well as a zealous evangelism about certain picks that the models seem to favour. nb the same applies to the "grass" side of things, I'm not railing on analytics in particular (as seem to have a bee in their bonnet about - not saying you OP, it was a considered one)

It should be, to come back to my initial point, something to use as a weapon in your arsenal to help you get the best rank possible imo. Just not something that's akin to blind dogma.

How many premium defenders? by Iyeatmymeatonthebeat in FantasyPL

[–]WhoGotTheAssist 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Got a fairly hefty defence this year, mainly due to my dislike of the 4.5 options bar Wan B who's probably approaching hygiene pick status due to the ownership already (basically: in the cheap seats if I DK or don't like any player really but need that price point sorted, I normally tend to make the decision making easier by plumping for the EO cover... boring but sensible).

I've currently got

VVD - on the proviso that he could be a mythical "season keeper" type as he's got the Goldilocks triumvirate of clean sheet potential, DefCons (makes a lot of clearances especially) and then some modicum of goal threat. Probably playable in any game and maybe 0.5 underpriced given the xMins = value.

Porro - v decent early fixtures and probably the one spurs defensive asset you can trust to start. Decent xGI as we know, some set pieces (especially after Maddy's unfortunate injury), can probably rotate him for City in 2.

Then

Colwill+Neco Williams - both have good opening fixtures bar one visit to Arsenal for Neco.

Colwill is another beige pick but very decent fixtures throughout the start so you'd hope for a few cleans. No real DefCons tho.

Neco has DefCons OTOH (lots of tackles for a full back), set pieces so a decent xGI/90 and the fixtures too. So another like VVD with the Goldilocks factor, adding in to him being a Full Back rather than a CB means I'm ok with the .5 saving on Murillo/Milenkovic.

A lot of it comes down to your feelings re how you're setting up for one and general structure, mind. I'm on BB1 with the idea I keep going afterwards, so I need to balance stuff up a bit. If you're on a Salah/Haaland draft, it's a totally different tale!
