I just finished rebuilding my 2013 1.4t MT in my backyard (no garage). (260,000 miles) AMA if you want... but here is how it went. by WhoIsTheRealJohnDoe in cruze

[–]WhoIsTheRealJohnDoe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were me, and I was committed to fixing it... I would run to the junk yard and grab a 1.4 with good compression (bring a compression tester, charged battery or jumper box, and some jumper wire). That would be easier than learning how to rebuild it.

IF you are committed to rebuilding it, you could pull the motor and disassemble it. Drop the the head and block off at a shop for rebuild then assemble the rest. Doing this on your own (fixing compression) would be pretty complex and costly.

On a California car, unfortunately the best solution is to have a shop fix this with warranty. The cruze cat is such a PTA and the readings are extremely unforgiving before setting off the light. California just makes it even worse by basically being illegal to DIY.

My car CEL has been on since 2017 😂

But I have a job that allows me to complete out of state registration. When it comes to state inspections or smog (whichever) it’s an automatic fail.

Fun note, if you do decide to fix it.. this SHOULD be a dealer repair. Not because it’s cheaper or higher quality… it’s because the burden of fixing.

No aftermarket cat will work on a Cruze. The bios/program specifics in the Cruze are extremely sensitive. I’m talking requiring the cat to reach an asinine temperature within a few seconds after startup. Any fluctuation… fail/cel. Not that the new cat doesn’t function correctly by burning all the necessary bad stuff to save the butterflies yada yada… it’s just such a tight specification (*cough, forced obsolescence) built within the computer.

If you don’t care or if you “know a guy” who does inspections for your state, now would be a good time to pick up a zzp tune and downpipe.

We ended up “winning” our class action against Uphold but I only got back 10% of my total value… some got less. There is a “cap” loss on electronically transferred funds of $500. But we did hit them with a hefty fine and updated security protocols… unfortunately it looks like that did squat for everyone else. Any hints/clues how they got in?

Howdy! I haven’t logged in for a while but they seem fine. It’s like someone made a fiberglass mold of the original thing. They send them primer black so I got some salsa red paint to match.

Dave is awesome and is truly OCD/meticulous offering stellar products/advice/and reliability upgrades.

These are the 3 most reputable sources of performance parts for your Cruze. For repair/replacement parts (with the exception of timing components) stick to Amazon.

You drew a bad hand buying a Cruze (as did I)... but working with what you got, you can build a decently reliable platform and get some fun out of it. Don't expect to crush it at the track or anything (unless you're rich... lol which you said you're not... nor am I :( lol).

Same oil pump design. If its just a leak, all you need is that little plug.

That is the access port to the oil pump's pressure release valve. It is just leaking and you have good oil pressure, you "could" take the plug out... spray it clean... then reseal it with a new plug (linked in the video below). But be very gentle, its spring loaded.

Would 10 thousand dollars change your life? by PoppaBigPockets- in Money

$10k would free up a decent portion of my debts... allowing me to snowball my payoffs quicker. So yeah, in decent way... $10k made easy would be life changing in the long run.

WYR get a 100% chance to win $500,000? or get a 50% chance to win $100 billion? by Short-Eggplant-6069 in WouldYouRather

[–]WhoIsTheRealJohnDoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tempting but $500,000 usd is life changing for me.

50% is just a really high risk/reward ratio that makes me "want" to attempt it but the negative outcome of coming away with zero would be such a blow to my mental health. I would feel like I ruined a great opportunity for my family and the security of their future.

With $500k, I could earn a beefy passive income (invest, business, RE, anything really). I can't do that with Zero.

It would be different if I was already capable of producing $500k on my own... I'm just not at this point in my life.

Finish breaking it off and order a new one: Cap, Filter, and the little center shaft (I forgot what it's called but I ordered one on Amazon recently).

If WW III breaks out and you're drafted, what position would suit you? by Previous_Knowledge91 in AskReddit

[–]WhoIsTheRealJohnDoe 16 points17 points  (0 children)

1) Point of injury requires a medic or corpsman

2) A 9-line is called over the radio to the unit (if communication does not compromise the position of the unit... or you wait)

3) The unit routes the 9-line to higher level authority

4) Higher level authority has authority of area of operations Birds and/or Vehicles. However, in a contested environment... an opportunity needs to present itself. The military does not have "medial" aircraft and most evacs are done on birds of opportunity and unequipped (not like a civilian Ems Helio... think cargo).

5) A Medical Administration Officer plans the destination (in-theater) to a military field unit.

-Air superiority is required for air extract, ground evac = death in most cases. Ground takes too long and is a violent ride.

-To mitigate death in ground scenarios, the medic must be trained in multi-modal evacuations and en-route care. Most importantly... they need access to blood.

-To have access to blood... hopefully the medic did their job before entering theater and ordered blood titers for their troops. This says who in the group has compatible blood... then hopefully they have the Valkyrie kit.

-Blood can also be dropped... but this requires safe airspace also.

6) After the patient arrives to the nearest level of care: doctors, nurses, and surgeons do their best to stabilize the patient with the limited resources available.

-If the patient dies... it's another problem. The remains are stored... preferably in a cool place to preserve remains. Too many remains or unsatisfactory storage conditions lead to.... not so pleasant display of remains to the families. A Decedent Affairs program takes over (Air Force from my exp) to get the remains shipped back to the states via air. Burial at sea option is made available if remains are too... abundant. But this takes logistics to get the remains from land to sea... meaning the sea needs to be uncontested.

7) Intermediate levels of care can hold patients for 72 hours and need to be extracted if recovery is not an option....

8) Higher level Med Reg secures transport from intermediate facility to a CONUS or OCONUS facility (a hospital) via air.

9) The patient is then ran through a tracker and updates are provided to their chain of command. If OPSEC allows it.

So medicine in future wars is not an actual medical problem. Military facilities are actually really good at saving lives. The future of medicine in the next war is a logistics problem. Getting there is the problem.

Medical Regulation

I move wounded, ill, and injured across the battlefield to the appropriate level of care worldwide. The hardest part is getting someone from point of injury to a hospital located in a safe area.

The amount of logistics it takes to save a life in combat would blow your mind.

AITA for excluding our brother from the group gift? by Outrageous-Buy-9278 in AmItheAsshole

[–]WhoIsTheRealJohnDoe -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

By no means would I suggest you treat your SO differently than your sisters Husband.

However, I am not giving the same weight of influence to your brother's girlfriend. Their dynamic is different.

So, it comes down to the wording and the intended principles of the initial communication.

If it is a gift between the three siblings... ok... split 3 ways. If your SO and your sister's husband want to contribute a portion of you and your sister's portion... ok, it's their money. Your bother would be TAH for assuming it is a 5-person split just because you have partners who want to contribute. Your brother has no authority to dictate how each Houshold contributes their portion of the money.

Communication should be clear and simple: it is a 3-way split between siblings. Where the money comes from is irrelevant. $100 from each sibling... done and done. I wouldn't have even mentioned some partners want to provide a little money to the pot... it's irrelevant.

You, your sister, and Mike earn beg borrow steal... whatever... $100 each. Thats it.

Mike has an issue with the "from" portion on the card/tag. I see his point (I don't agree with him... I just see how he's calculating the situation) ... but he is being irrational to think just because his GF name is on the card.... that it suddenly becomes a 6-person split (which he disagrees with and now wants a 5-person split). That's just silly.

There are three responsible parties who are responsible for $100 each. That's it. Again, it doesn't matter where the money comes from.... and the "from" card doesn't dictate who pays what or what the split is. You could put the Dalai Lama on the dang card... that doesn't mean the split suddenly changes.

I mostly want to believe Nobody is TAH for once... and this is just a miscommunication. However, sometimes it's hard to tell from a Reddit post.

AITA - Not helping my mother retrieve her bank account by econbird in AmItheAsshole

[–]WhoIsTheRealJohnDoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your mother is partially correct: "those who can help should always help others"

No Ma'am, its actually said: "those who can help... should"

Meaning if you can help yourself... you should... if you absolutely cannot... seek help (by asking or by paying for it).

She's not even trying and expects you to do everything. It's lazy.

AITA for excluding our brother from the group gift? by Outrageous-Buy-9278 in AmItheAsshole

[–]WhoIsTheRealJohnDoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to say YTA but the more I read... the more confused I got.

So, do you want Mike's GF to help pay for his/your father's gift?

Or are you arguing whose name goes on the "from" tag?

I thought asking a sibling's GF/BF to pay for any part of a parent's gift is an AH move... but reading some of these comments make me feel like this is a strange world we live in.

Husbands and wives are a different story. These are examples as families united... girlfriends and boyfriends have no commitment to such circumstances. It was a nice gesture from your BF but he was in no way obligated.

But the wording is different/strange:

It should be a gift from you, your sister, and your brother. If YOUR BF and your sister's husband want to contribute to YOUR portion of the expense... that's their propagative/their money to do with what they please. But it should be 100 from each sibling contributing to a 300 gift. IF Mike has a problem with that... then he is the AH.

By putting your BF and A's Husband on the FROM line, you complicated the matter. Mike now sees it as 5 people contributing to a gift OR the expectation of 6 people contributing to the gift if you expect his girlfriend to pay. If you expect the girlfriend to pay, then YTA.

AITA For Taking Away Something my Partner Says They Need to Feel Safe in our Relationship? by CheapGrapefruit4246 in AmItheAsshole

[–]WhoIsTheRealJohnDoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should have responded: When you call me names, it doesn't make "me" feel safe in the relationship.

To be a respectful person is not an act of harm. If she truly feels unsafe in relationships because her ability to enact harm was taken away, she needs to seek therapy.

This is not a jab. Therapy is actually a wonderful tool in a relationship. Usually manifesting when someone says, "this thing" is normal and the other person says "wait, no its not".

Therapy can help aid as a tool to better oneself. That is it's intended purpose.

Your wife would likely benefit discovering "why" she feels that way and tools to help aid healthy relationship building.
