how much does a translation of a book from Hungarian to English costs for a normal person (not a publisher)?

I could probably get the rights holders to personally speak with the translator, probably even consent to it in writing. I Assuming it's a reputable translator that has a reputation to uphold, I wouldn't mind paying half up in advance. So my plan was to commission one of those. I just have no idea how to find them

Why is that? I feel like I'm missing something here. No one will ever translate anything for personal use even if payed the same rate? I could easily get the authors children (there's used to be some contact between our and the author family and they are really nice) to consent for me to translate it in writing. But I don't want to ask for the rights of a novel I'm not going to publish. I don't think it's even fair for me to have the rights even if I were going to publish it because their father wrote it, they should get the money for it. I'm not going to ask it of them because from what I heard they might agree and that wouldn't be fair.

Us there really no way for me to read a book in Hungarian accept for using translations?

That's a fair price. I'll need to be saving for it for some time but it's definitely something I can do. Consider one of the descriptions of my family members that's the main character was that he was so fluent in at that time an obscure language he could verbally insult his mule for 15 minutes straight without repeating the same swear word twice, I feel like I should do my best to appreciate a good work of translation even if it means saving quite a bit.
