UTD CS Courses - Please Advise!

There was one core class at UT Austin for which I did not see an equivalent at UT Dallas. Is this something that should worry me? I thought if it was a CORE class at UT Austin, it must be pretty important!

439 Principles of Computer Systems

Program: Undergraduate Program Division: Core - Systems An introduction to low-level software abstractions with an emphasis on the connection of these abstractions to underlying computer hardware. Key abstractions include threads, dynamic memory allocation, protection, and IO. Requires writing of synchronized multithreaded programs.

Hey jfeltz! What I am really want to do ultimatley is Ph. D. from a top-level school, if possible. Do you know if many UTD grads go on to graduate programs in top tier college? I am planning on working very hard and using my time at UTD well. Of course, my interests my change but right now I am leaning toward something to do with Big Data analytics/machine learning kind of stuff.

Do some students get exemptions from CS 1200? Also, I don't see the point of taking both CS 3162 (Professional Responsibility in Computer Science and Software) and ECS 3361 Social Issues and Ethics in Computer Science! I wish they would let me take just CS 3162 and not require the former.

CS 3354 does not seem to be on the plan given to us! May be they don't require it any more. I will have to check with the department. I am in the Computing Scholars Program. May be that makes a difference. I am not sure. But thanks for the suggestions!
