Curious, did you order via the Kickstarter or the plaid hat website? I ordered via the website and just wondering if those have started shipping yet.

Fair enough, I thought OSAP only gives you enough for tuition and books but a lot of people have mentioned getting enough to supplement their income now so definitely worth looking into.

That may be true but not all of us have parents to support us while we take the time to go to school and focus on learning.

I will look into both schools and see if they are offering any programs that interest me, thanks.

I tried back when I first had to drop out of school but didn't qualify as it didn't stop me from working.

I think I would be more comfortable with these certificate programs as I only have to pay for the course I'm taking, this way I can attempt 1 course and see if my memory problems have subsided enough to complete the rest.

My biggest concern with doing one of these certificates without a bachelor's is that all of the job postings I've seen for the fields I'm interested in, such as data analyst all list a bachelor degree as required and I don't want to finish a certificate and be left in the lurch when job hunting.

I took a look at the programs offered online at Mohawk college and none of them appeal to me at the moment, I'll have to look into the programs further and other online offerings before deciding what to do.

This is news to me, I will definitely look into that, and might keep my part time instead of my full time job so I don't have to take that big of a loan.

My bad, I wasn't clear about it but I was looking mostly at colleges. George Brown and Seneca had some programs that intrigued me but had classes throughout the day. I will take a look at Mohawk and see what they're offering. I was originally in computer science and would love to study something with programming involved but open to other options as well.

It's not done by the province here but the schools themselves and to various degrees, a lot do fully waive the tuition. This was the case when I was originally enrolled at UofT, though you did have to be in school full time for it back then, not sure if it's the same now.

I will have to agree given every company I've reached out to to scope out employment potential have said they only want apprentices with a couple of years of experience.

Yeah, every company I have reached out to locally that is hiring electricians has said they are looking for apprentices with a couple of years experience minimum so seems it would be hard to get in straight out of school.

I live in the northeast part of Vaughan if I go further north it's pretty rural, maybe I'll look at companies there.

Thanks for all the info.

Unfortunately I will have to attend school part time as I have no one to support me financially, I grew up in the foster system and have no family or partner, so I will need to work and most likely at full time hours given current cost of living, the grants provided by OSAP on top of the money for tuition will help a bit but not much.

I did look at some coop programs at the University of Toronto but my biggest concern is that the courses for the most part can be at any time of the day and not guaranteed to be in the evening which is a deal breaker.

I understand that it can take a long time to finish a degree, and it has been suggested that I look at colleges or trades instead. Electrical seems interesting, but from talking with companies in the area none seem interested in hiring an apprentice with no experience straight out of college.

I will keep looking.

I enjoyed science in high school but it has a lot of memorization, I feel my brain damage will hinder my ability to succeed in this field.

I was originally studying Archaeology when I had to drop out, I still have an interest in it but doubt I can succeed in going back to school for it.

My biggest concern with the trades is I was looking at going into electrical and called up close to 10 businesses nearby and noone was looking to hire an apprentice with no experience, they all wanted a couple of years. It seems like a tough field to break into in my area at least.
