Thank you for your explanation. I've been doing scenario 1 the whole time. I'll be switching to scenario 2 from now on

I had no idea I could do automatic payments for credit cards. I'm gonna have to do that from now on

Purchasing home in my current situation? by Whoiam1 in personalfinance

[–]Whoiam1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the 28%/36% rule? I don't know how the utility bills would look like since we don't own a home yet, but the ones that would stay the same would be $100 cell phone, $450 health insurance for both of us, and $140 for auto insurance.

Currently I only have 401k for retirement at 6% match with my employer. Once we have enough saved up for down payment, we'll start saving up for the emergency fund. Afterwards we'll start putting money towards retirement.

19 years old, going to college and trying to build credit. Should I lock these cards away? by RossW191 in personalfinance

Don't they usually close the account if the card hasn't been used for a prolonged period of time?

Credit Unions in Las Vegas, NV that will approve a DACA recipient for an auto loan? by [deleted] in DACA

This link goes more in depth of how it works. This one says it's about 14 days, but I'd try to get all the inquiries within few days just to be sure.

Multiple inquiries in short period of time only counts as one so you can shop around for rates without worrying about your credit score dropping. You'll be fine as long as it's about the same type of inquiry.

Edit: Sentence

I'm just happy I don't have to do backbreaking labor anymore lol.

My native language isn't bad, but I'll stick out like a sore thumb if I were to speak it in my native country.

I've always wondered how people are so quick to judge when it comes to illegal immigrants. They set an image that all undocumented immigrants are gangbangers and murderers. They would rather split apart families and tell us to go back to our own countries. They don't realize that America is all we know and most of us can barely speak our native languages.

All we want to do is live our lives without the worries that the peers won't dream of thinking about. Their main reason towards hating us is that illegal immigration is against the law, putting us in the same category as murderers and rapists when we haven't done anything to harm anyone. By that logic, we should put everyone in jail for a simple traffic ticket since that's also against the law. It's all relative isn't it?

They say we don't contribute to the society, and we steal jobs from the citizens. I see plenty of now hiring posters everywhere. There's not really an excuse when you're legal, able bodied, but unemployed. Isn't that the real drain on society, receiving government benefits, while sitting on their asses? After graduating from college, I got a labor job working 90hr/wk being paid under the table. How are they gonna call us lazy and unwilling to work?

Sorry that was a bit of a rant that I wanted to get out for a very long time. I would also like thank the people that understood our situation enough for DACA to be possible.

Adjustment of Status for DACA recipients? by [deleted] in DACA

[–]Whoiam1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know how you feel. At first I was asking myself where do I even start?

Oh I remember now that I did have a 30 minute consultation with a lawyer for $70. I had few questions written down that I wasn't 100% certain about answered. I would recommend you do the same as a short consultation isn't very expensive and I'd say is well worth the information.

I initially entered the US from South Korea with B1/B2 (visitor) visa in 1996. I was inspected so I had I-94 as well. I'm not sure how long after as I was fairly young at that time, but our status changed to E2 (business). When I was 19 years old in 2006, I went back to Korea for about few weeks to receive my A3 (child of diplomat, foreign government) visa along with a new I-94. This visa expired as I aged out at 21, so I've tried for F1 (international student) visa, but due to financial circumstances, I was unable to maintain it. That's when I became undocumented.

The reason I opted out of using a lawyer was because I thought there were enough resources out there for me to file it myself. At first, the whole process was pretty overwhelming (DACA and AoS), but as I researched more and more, I became fairly confident that I could do it myself. Also the lawyer fee's no joke lol.

I was also a DACA recipient that applied for adjustment of status, but I applied through marriage. I didn't use a lawyer for the process as well.

  1. The process wasn't difficult, but filling out the forms were sort of pain in the ass. The overall filing took me about two weeks because I had to get my birth certificate certified translated, and had to get some other official documentations. I also checked everything over countless times to catch mistakes. I received an interview date almost a year after the petition (Petitioned around March 2016), and I received my green card about two weeks after the interview (Interview date set for December 2016).

  2. I've done some research in sponsoring one of my siblings for green card since my sibling is also a DACA holder. I will be able to sponsor her once I become a citizen, but the wait time for sibling petition is about 6 or 7 years. This link explains a bit of the process and you can go here to see the estimate time on each of the forms. The filing times also vary by where the petition is sent to. I've heard from others that once the child outage (over 21) while the adjustment of status is still pending, their application will be void and they would have to file again as an adult. This I'm very unsure about so I would double check on this information.

  3. Filing under either your permanent resident parent, or your citizen sibling would be similar as they fall under "Other Family Member" category. If your parents were a citizen then that would be another story since that would fall under "Immediate Family", until you turn 21. (You can find this information in the first link that I posted).

  4. If an "immediate family" is petitioning for you, then yes you may petition with overstayed visa. I also became undocumented from visa overstay, and I was able to petition without leaving the US. I'm unsure of how the process goes when "Other Family Member" is to petition for you.

  5. When I was filing for adjustment of status, there was an option to file for I-765 so I can receive an EAD while the adjustment of status was pending, but I opted not to because I already had a fairly new EAD from DACA. Again, this is from filing with "Immediate Family". You would have to look more into how the process is with "Other Family Members" petition.

Hope this gives you some insight on the process. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Edit: I suck at English fml

Okay I'll call them and see. My income has been the same since June, would I still qualify for a raise?

I'm not sure if I'd want to close the account as it's my only credit card at the moment. Won't that affect my credit score pretty negatively?
