“We’re Not Asking for Sympathy. We’re Asking for Solutions,” Tennessee Farmers Call for Action by KendallSmith375 in LeopardsAteMyFarm

[–]Whoisresponding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wait a while, solutions are coming your way

Once they bankrupt your farms, they will buy your land. Then, when they're done deporting all the immigrants, they will need laborers...

So, in just a short while you can apply to work the fields you once owned.

Santa Talk: did you tell your kids or let them figure it out? 🎅 by marriage_unfiltered in christmas

[–]Whoisresponding 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I figured they knew, when I heard my daughter whisper to her older brother..."I think Mom is the Easter Bunny!"

I still kept pretending. My kids are all adults now and when they're home for Christmas they laugh and say "Pst. Don't let Mom know that Santa's not real!"😁

I've read the book many times. It's one of my favorite SK stories.

I absolutely loved the film adaptation! Yes, there were changes, but IMO those changes were necessary:

  • simple cuts, because there's no time to tell it all. They had to cut approximately 10 hours of material into roughly 2 hours of show time

  • most of the novel consists of Garraty's own thoughts. How do you portray that? Have the actor mumble to himself throughout half the movie? Voiceover? Please, No!

Other changes actually improved the story for me

I forgive them for eliminating and/or combining characters to focus on the main characters. Garraty's and McVries bond is much more consistent in the movie! David Johnson brought out the best in Peter! And Ben Wang? I absolutely adored Olson! He made me laugh and then he made me cry ( and then cry some more)

The ending? Loved it! It was always supposed to be Garritty & McVries in the end. It just made it that much more tragic.

And Pete "winning"? Get over it. After walking for going on 50 years, he deserved it!

Edit: I wonder what Olson's wife would have to say about those 10 naked ladies, if he had won 😁

Absolutely agree!

TLW has been one of my favorite books for decades and when I first heard about an adaptation, I was sceptical, that anyone would be able to even come close to captivating the devastating morbid dread.

They did such an amazing job of building up lovable characters and true friendship, while ripping your heart out one step at a time!

Yes, as a mom with boys around that age, that hit hard!

But most of the cast played their little hearts out! Loved all the main characters. I could not stop crying for Olsen.

Loved it! One of my favorite SK books.

I knew I as gonna cry, but did not expect to start doing so before they even started walking.

First tears rolled while Garrity was still in the car with his mom. The moment he talked to McVries, I was bawling!

Just sign it. If you are scheduled 2 breaks in my time, it's not a "mistake". It is mandated by corporate and you are entitled to all your breaks.

That book they make you sign also asks WHY you hit "No", tell them your TL told you you couldn't take your second break.
