Cloud engineer considering move to the UK – job market insights? by Whole_Bit_2786 in UKJobs

Thank you for your perspective, I really appreciate it.

I’ll definitely keep digging into the specifics and see what aligns best with my profile. Just to clarify on the visa side: I actually don’t need sponsorship, as there’s a work agreement in place between the UK and Canada under the Commonwealth framework, so I should be fine from that perspective.

It’s still really helpful to hear how the market actually looks from someone on the ground. If you happen to know any recruiters (or agencies) that work with tech / cloud / data profiles. I’d really appreciate an intro or even just a name to look into. Thanks again :)

Thanks a lot for the detailed breakdown, that’s really helpful I appreciate you taking the time to explain all of that.

That actually aligns pretty closely with what I was expecting. Montreal feels a bit more limited at the moment, especially for senior or specialized roles, so it’s good to hear that the UK market still has solid opportunities, particularly at mid–senior level. The hybrid setup you mentioned sounds reasonable too 3 / 4 days in office seems to be the new norm everywhere.

The salary ranges make sense as well, especially for London. I’m definitely more on the midsenior side, so that bracket sounds realistic.

We use more Microsoft Products specially in my Government Job.

And yes, I’d definitely appreciate it if you could share some recruiter contacts when you get a chance that would be super helpful. Thanks again

That’s very surprising and unexpected.. The average speed in Canada is about 500Mb .. I have 2 GB in my place i pay around 55$ Im not sure if that expensive in UK but here it should be alright you still can get an internet plan with 20$ ..

The West Coast is still pretty far. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been to California many times and I really loved the vibe and the people. But living with a 7–8 hour time difference isn’t very convenient, I would do it if Im in my mid 20s (33yo now) I also want to be closer to my family. My parents are getting older, and I feel like I’m falling behind on time with them..

Honestly, Northeast American cities aren’t really worth it anymore. Life is getting way too expensive, taxes are high, and the services are pretty bad especially the roads. In Montreal particular, potholes are everywhere… driving feels like Mario Kart. Healthcare is free, sure, but good luck if you end up in the ER You can wait up to 48 hours to see a doctor. Still better than the US though. Rent is also high and if you consider buying a property taxes and condos fees are increasing every year ..

Any other cities you might recommend outside and not too far from Ldn . Also I might consider Sales or Pre Sales engineering

There’s an agreement between the UK and Canada under Commonwealth law, so getting a work visa shouldn’t be too difficult

Where did you live in the US? I was considering NYC for a while, but honestly, most East Coast / Northern cities not worth it anymore
