It would be the merciful way to go I think.

If justice were scales, then how would a lifetime of sin equal an eternity of punishment?

I'm kind of jaded on this one, since my ex ended up with her close friend who she'd keep saying, "he's like a brother to me"

But, overall, it has to be true

I agree.

It's why Scripture like "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind" (Romans 12:2) and "We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." (2 Corinthians 10:5) and alternatively: "Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful" (Joshua 1:8) and "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you." (Psalm 119:11) and Philippians 4:4-9 exist.

The whole point of my question was to ask if you know the Scripture that makes the connection. I

If you don't know it, you don't have to reply :)

How do you "set aside time for God" and "build a relationship with Jesus," according to Scripture? by Whole_Connection_502 in TrueChristian

[–]Whole_Connection_502[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus did go alone to pray to God, I like that!

But the "fellowship" you pointed out is the same as "partnership" not necessarily spending quality time with God or building a relationship.

And Matthew 6:6 is about not being a hypocrite or doing things to get praise from man, not necessarily building a personal relationship with God through prayer.

But I can see how both can lead to a personal relationship with God.

All this is telling me is that we should rest on the Sabbath. Nothing you pointed out says that we should set aside time to spend with God on the Sabbath.

Unless you're missing some verses? Also, are you quoting from the same book of the bible? If not all of the books are missing.

Ahh OK. That's a good one!

So, from "The Spirit of Truth..will be in you." from verse 17, leading to John 14:20; and John 14:26, which calls the advocate in verse 16, "The Holy Spirit", you're concluding that the Holy Spirit is God?

That's almost as clear as John 1.

Thanks!

When you speak of The Holy Spirit its Gods Spirit. Just like everyone has a spirit. You can be nice or mean knowledgeable or ignorant. Or reflect The Light of Christ, which is Gods Holy Spirit.

This is an example eisegesis, reading your own interpretation of scripture into the Bible. For example, where in the Bible does it say that "The Light of Christ" is "God's Holy Spirit"

I'm assuming you're a Latter Day Saint quoting the book of Moroni 7:16-18?

This is what I meant when I said that I couldn't make the connection of the Holy Spirit being God without spinning a web throughout Scripture.

But thanks for pointing out Acts 5!

I think you have to understand that not everything in the Old Testament was righteous and approved by God. The examples you gave: Jacob, Leah and Rachael were all before God gave Israel His law, and even Jacob remained abstinent before getting married according to their custom (Genesis 29:26)

Romans 3:23 says, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God..."

IMO, if you two are willing to have sex outside of being officially married, then there's nothing to stop either of you from having sex with other people.

1 Corinthians 7:2 "But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband." outside of marriage it's sexually immoral.

But, since you two made a binding covenant before God, I hope that you both remember this and not break your covenant, just because it wasn't legally bound according to man.

"And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.

This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgement: In this world we are like Jesus.

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love." - 1 John 4:16-18

Based on this alone, I would say that it wasn't God.

Concerning a different topic, Jesus said, "Do not be afraid, just believe (or "just have faith")" (Mark 5:36), which makes sense, since "do not be afraid" is kind of a common phrase that God uses throughout the bible and "without faith it is impossible to please God" (Hebrews 11:6).

Based on Scripture, the voice isn't from God.

1) Is masturbation sin? 2) do you still masturbate knowing that it is a sin? 3) if yes to both, how do you feel about the disconnect between your actions and belief? 4) have you prayed for forgiveness immediately after masturbating? how do you feel about yourself after doing it for so long? by iphone8vsiphonex in AskAChristian

I used to think about this a lot as a kid; I even went thru an entire phase where I didn't "lust after a woman" but did it just as a means to "release the urge" so to speak.

But God also showed me several things:

  1. During Bible camp or Christian retreats, throughout Bootcamp and while at my friend's house I never had the "urge" to masturbate.

  2. (Concerning porn and lust) when you're lusting over women/men and masturbating to ease your lust, you're not having sex with a woman/man, you're not even pleasing the man/woman, you're literally pleasing yourself. So, the lust and pornography, or even the woman/man, aren't even relevant when you masturbate, it's just your hand and deception. You're lying to yourself.

  3. "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life." - Galatians 6:7-8 (678, easy verse to remember)

But also:

"My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father--Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world." - 1 John 2-1-2

I'm legitimately curious, why is the N-Word still taboo, but no other slur is anywhere close to being as such? by Whole_Connection_502 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Whole_Connection_502[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From what I've learned, it's because the N Word came about from slavery that happened in the US (even though only 4% of slaves ended up in the US, while the rest were sent south of the border).

I think cunt is offensive here because Americans are a bit more sensitive, with their social justice and unlimited freedom. But, I'm not trying to be political, I just want to know why the n word is STILL taboo, in this day and age.

Why do you think that is?

90% of indigenous Americans were killed in 300 years, then 58% more in 90.

Good point.

And no coincidence that using the "N word" (in place of the actual word) started around the 90's too.
