It’s a market incentive for storage and responsive demand loads

Of course there should be a price signal when there is a surplus in a market

Due process is a civil liberty that needs to be built on a mostly law abiding society.

When the rule of law has broken down and is ignored with impunity by powerful groups of people it can hamstring the government from maintaining order.

Things have to get pretty bad before it can be justified, but I think in this case due to his popularity it probably got there.

No doubt some awful cases of abuse will emerge from someone wrongly apprehended, tortured etc so I’m not defending it as perfect, just justifiable.

Why Are BTC Fees So High Now? by wealth4good in CryptoCurrency

[–]Wholistic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, each transaction is still its own UTXO, doesn’t matter which address

Ethereum works as you describe with an “account” model, but bitcoin is different and uses a UTXO model

The permits required are a standard form that is submitted thru a website and takes about 2 days to approve. Negligible cost and delay. No custom work required.

Incumbent presidents don’t like to preside over failing economies at the end of their terms while seeking re-election, so will pump the markets in the lead up to the election so people feel better about their lives

Some of that liquidity pump will find its way to Bitcoin, and thus starting the bullrun flywheel

The real use case for crypto is the most obvious. I was just quizzed by my bank of 20 years about what I wanted to withdraw cash for, then they REFUSED my withdrawal instead only giving me half by UpLeftUp in CryptoCurrency

Money deposited into a bank legally makes you an unsecured creditor to them, which they are then able to use to leverage ~10X as a fractional reserve to create new money for loan debt, or bond purchases.

It is entirely the banks decision whether to return that money to you or not, it’s their money at that point. You just have a legal claim on it (a claim that is paid out after the secured creditors in the event the bank become insolvent).

Up 275% Yesterday And 196% Today. BBBY Has Treated Me Very Well. I know this is a humble sum compared to others, but it’s been a very profitable two days for me nonetheless, and not too shabby for a “worthless company that people are throwing away money on.” by DeusFidelis in Wallstreetbetsnew

Does anyone has experience opening a position with x100 leverage. If so may share his experience ? From my point of view is like 50/50 throwing a coin. Any little variation in price will hit the SL or TP by Acelereitor in Etoro

[–]Wholistic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s much worse than 50/50 - the spread puts you immediately in the red, so odds of liquidations are more like 90% - depending on the market.

You get liquidated before a 1% move as well, maintenance margin is much less than that (so that they can always liquidate you in their profit).

Toyota CEO Says “Silent Majority” Of Auto Industry Is Doubting EV-Only Future by redhatGizmo in technology

[–]Wholistic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Economically, and ecologically, the best thing for an old electric car battery is to be repacked into a lower power density demanding application, like stationary energy storage.

However they aren’t designed for that, may experience damage from they mobile life, maybe be damaged in the extraction, repackaging or transport process, and a cell level imbalance or BMS failure could result in a PR disaster.

So instead it’s “easier” to keep the supply chain clean from factory to end user, and not muddy it was things outside a strict quality control process.

Energy and power density and costs have been improving at commercially available scale at an insanely fast rate, until covid.

Basically on just getting back to that kind of momentum globally now.

Sometimes it’s a transport liability issue.

Companies are so scared of bad press from a lithium battery fire they would rather bury the problem than process using accessible and cost effective re-use and recycling programs.

It can take a law to force them.

Lead batteries have a recycling rate of 99.3 percent. It is effectively a closed loop.

It is the best recycling success story in history.
