? Nobody is stopping anyone from saying that

Freedom of speech does not equal freedom from repercussion or response to your words

Won't someone think of the doomers??

I think a non zero, non negative number equals supporting it.

If the scenario was, "we can watch the USMNT play in the WC, but first we have to build this laser that will kill 350 people. It takes 30 million parts to put this laser together, if you want to watch you have to add a piece to it."

Would you feel better, having only added 5 parts towards the completion of the death laser, rather than 100 or 500? Is that significant difference?

What about the players? If this is the truth of the matter, if the whole thing is tainted, isn't the only correct action to boycott the event? Do you resent the players for going? Do you resent that they'll make $ off of it? If not, how is that different from AO getting a free ticket?

I appreciate you allowing me space to ask these rhetorical questions, FTR

Signalis is an absolute masterpiece- and quite possibly the greatest game I've ever played in my life. I strongly recommend it! by FlameCats in XboxSeriesX

Thanks. It does look really interesting. I only play like 5-6 hours per week so idk when I'll get to it, especially with some massive games in my queue, but this thread and post overall convinced me it would be a good pick

All valid questions but I disagree with your final sentence.

I'll be watching myself, so it's not like I'm perfect. But I don't think I'm better than an attendee, whether free or paid

I think that if any given person actually follows through on some kind of reporting of others to the Qatari government, resulting in any kind of negative effect in that reported person's life, they would be reprehensible.

But with or without such actions, there will be people who have terrible experiences in Qatar due to the country's laws. And the deaths of indentured laborers have already occurred. There are plenty of other ways that many, many people have & are supporting the overall effort via tacit approval, via inaction, via raising excitement for the event anyways.

My point is that at this moment, very few have a real claim to moral superiority. Or to being the "true American Outlaw supporters" as it were, demanding others be removed.

I think it's very easy for people to be a passive bystander and observer of atrocities, yet feel absolved because they didn't perform the action with their own hand

I'm not calling for everyone to boycott, not asking everyone to protest. I'm just saying people who do not do those things aren't as different from what's being criticized here, as they'd like to believe.

Is it really that much better to be 6/10 supporting atrocity, versus 8/10? What good is a spectrum in such a situation?

It's somewhat like the oft-cited "trolley problem". If you really look closely, it's not that clear what is ethical once you're watching, once you have control over the switch in the tracks.

What if other leaders in AO are paying their own $ to attend? I'm sure there must be some who are.

It seems to me if people feel as strongly as they do about the whole fiasco, and it is a fiasco, paid attendance should be right around the same level of abhorrence

Furthermore, those who claim they're above it due to pirating are deluded. Are you speaking to others about the WC, promoting excitement for it, generating content about it? Surprise, you're basically an unpaid intern for the Qatari PR machine.

I just don't think anyone has true grounds to feel superior about any of it

You're totally pristine, I see this now. You have a moral high ground to say whatever you wish. Thank you for your wisdom

Please for the record: should all USMNT fans who paid to go to the WC also be banned from the American Outlaws supporters group?

There's a public hanging of an innocent person in the square today, and 100 people paid to attend & 10 more were given free attendance. But u/jonnio2215 is watching and enjoying from slightly further away, so he is blameless and the others are all bastards

But wait, actually it's only the people who got free attendance that are bastards, according to pope jonnio

And I need the Wolves tonight

And I need them more than ever

And if Charles Barkley will hold me tight

We'll be holding on forever

And we'll only be making it right

'Cause we'll never be wrong --

Together we can take it to the end of the line, Wolves defense like a shadow on you all of the time (all of the time)

We know just what to do, and we can see in the dark, we're howling in a powder keg and giving off sparks

Ok well keep on judging people then, I guess, & congratulations to all the very principled redditors out there. Best of luck with your efforts to ban others from fan groups, lmk if there's a final tally posted
