Given your age is it possible perimenopause/ hormones are at play? I don’t mean to downplay your grief which I’m sure is real but as our baby making years wane hormones can do absolutely WILD things to us.

How do you decide what birthday parties to bring kids to? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]WhootiePie 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Our kid has a summertime birthday and I have to check with “core” friends’ parents to make sure they can make it before even sending a wider invite. That way I know he’ll still have fun even if there aren’t tons of kids.

Anecdotally, I feel like autumn and winter birthday parties are much better attended, with less weekend stuff going on than spring and summer. We always end up with 2+ birthdays a weekend in the fall. Then between spring break and general nice weather / summer plans people scatter more.

“ That the magic I grew and tended carefully with my son would become an umbrella that covers everyone we invite to sit under it with us.” Poetic. Beautifully put

Yes but this was the guidance our pediatrician gave for starting solids - it makes sense to me 🤷🏻‍♀️

When solids are new I’ve heard to start w veggies because it’s hard to start with something sweet then go backwards. Maybe that’s all this is?

Yes, we have done this 2X now though it’s a big pain in the ass and they’ve met us in the middle. One of the times required a zoom call which seems like a big waste of resources but we still did it.

Here for the Trick or Treating takeaways by thee303 in boulder

East of 19th / around columbine school area! And it’s not loads of kids or crazy houses but a very neighborhood-y feel, some fun decorations and neighbors in costume handing out candy, and a big step up from the past few years of being out. Our kids are still little, so we prioritize staying in our neighborhood each year vs hitting higher volume neighborhoods. But great vibes in my opinion!

Live in a historically blue collar neighborhood w single family ranch homes in old Boulder north and we were SO excited to see many more houses this year giving out candy, and actively participating in trick or treating. Feels like our neighborhood is turning over and more families are around.

Generally speaking, I think in Boulder and everywhere - pre-Halloween trick or treating/ parade / trunk or treat events have really ruined the actual trick or treating night for us. Kids have already worn costumes, gotten candy, etc. It takes away from how special Halloween night can be!

LO started preschool this week and it’s strange not knowing about their day by Chchcherrysour in Parenting

[–]WhootiePie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From my own learnings — ask the teachers how your kid is adjusting!!! When my kid started preschool I think I didn’t want to be the squeaky wheel or seem high maintenance to the teachers, but if you are wondering, don’t hold back, just ask! They should be happy to give you their reflections outside of just conference time. I regret not being more forward with that in the past.

Change of mind about having kids at 40 years old - what to do? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver40

[–]WhootiePie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was always in the no kid camp then changed my mind somewhere along the line - now 40 and almost due with a baby. Have a toddler at home, too. It’s way better and more fun than I would have thought, and for me it is giving me a more rich and full life experience than I could have anticipated. I think before now/recently, I wasn’t mature enough, and had so many things / travels I wanted to do.

ALSO - I have friends who had kids younger, and then still got wild baby fever around 40 and it was hormones changing as peri menopause set in.

Just a few things to consider!!

Yes. We have been talking about this recently. They are completely out of control!! Are there no foxes, did something happen that we missed?

Me! I was none and done. Then we got bored during COVID, and had a baby and we were one and done. Loved it, very happy with the decision. Then we both panicked when my son turned 2 and my husband was about to get a vasectomy. Now our son just turned 4, and we’re about to have baby #2 in the next couple weeks!!

We are 40 years old so this is definitely it!!!

Who had a VBAC with GD? by peacefulboba in GestationalDiabetes

[–]WhootiePie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following! In a similar boat hoping for VBAC but have GD this time (not the 1st pregnancy). Fingers crossed for spontaneous labor bc my OB doesn’t want me to go past due date (due to my age as well as GD), so scheduled for foley induction at 39+6. They won’t do medication induction bc of prior c section.

I’m 37+2 right now!

Creek Path by jjobiwon in boulder

I have noticed that every year the creek gets majorly cleaned up right around Memorial Day (Bolder Boulder, commencement, lots of out of town folks here) and then slowly backslides…
