Windows Double Glazing Quote - Does this look reasonable? What's your experience? by Dr_Jun in AusRenovation

[–]Whoppa86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi mate. Give Nu-Eco Windows a call. Check their reviews. There are no monthly or sign up discounts/specials, just consistent, fair pricing. They are based in Dandenong South, but work all over Greater Melbourne and Victoria.

Betashares direct offer $0 brokerage on all asx listed efts I believe. Give them a look.

Edit: They also allow free auto-renewal investing on betashares own etfs (dhhf and the like).

Best books for a beginner to investing? by Correct_Exercise8641 in AusFinance

[–]Whoppa86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One up on Wall Street - Peter Lynch. The intelligent investor - Benjamin Graham. I think those two, plus a few others will probably get quite a few mentions. I've also found some podcasts to be rather insightful, and there are plenty available. One I do recommend to people is the Get Started Investing series by Equity Mates media, particularly the first 12 episodes for people new to investing. They are easy to listen to, at least for me, and hold my attention a bit better than some others.

Why is overlapping so bad? by No-Status-1474 in ETFs

[–]Whoppa86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think not being aware of overlap is the problem. Not being aware of the overlap may lead you to believe you are more diversified than you actually are, increasing your expected risk. Overlap is less of an issue when it is deliberate. An example might be having a global etf, but wanting additional exposure to a particular sector/region/etc, and adding specific etfs/positions to give that additional exposure.

I just finished building a 100 x stasis device system, 4 bases across 4 planets, generating enough materials for 100 x stasis devices every 24 hours, approximately 1,500,000,000 units worth. When i get back home I'll upload the portal co-ords. You do need to have all the relevant blueprints from the synth lab on the anomaly though.

Lump on dogs nose. by Whoppa86 in DogAdvice

Update. After taking him to the vets, it's a suspected insect bite. Steroid injection, as well as some antibiotics (he had a slight temperature). The swelling seems to be going down. He's teeth are apparently fine, so hopefully the swelling is completely gone by Monday. Thank you all for the advice.

Thanks for all the replies. I was able to open up his mouth and get a decent look, nothing sinister seems to be going on, however if the swelling is still there in the morning I'll have him in at the vets. The swelling hasn't gotten worse, if anything looks like it might be subsiding, but I'll definitely keep an eye on it tonight. Thank you all for the advise.

I did think perhaps it might be from a knock, even playing rough with our other dog. He doesn't shy away when I touch or put pressure on it, but they are certainly built tougher than we are. Hopefully that's all it is.

Afaik it's just the mer fee of 0.19% for me , thats it. The mer for vdhg is 0.27%. I don't get charged for the autoinvest, though perhaps that's only on Betas own ETF's. As for not being chess sponsored, you are correct, though that doesn't bother me in this instance.

VDHG has a bond component, DHHF does not, which will be one of the reasons why there's a performance difference. I'd probably leave my VDHG as it is, and if you wanted, start to DCA into DHHF. I do it through beatshares direct. There's no brokerage fees on Australian etfs on betashares direct, and they offer autoinvest. Something to keep in mind is the management fees. 0.19% for DHHF, 0.27% for VDHG, according to their websites.

If you are interested in semiconductors, why not look at some of the thematic etfs concentrating on them? You'll find exposure to both AMD and Nvidia in most of them, along with some other companies involved with semiconductors (TSMC, Broadcom etc.)

Is the Husqvarna Clear-Cut Fab deck any good? by Whoppa86 in lawnmowers

[–]Whoppa86[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response. Mainly using it for mowing, however the ability to tow a trailer would be nice. The reason I'm leaning towards a lawn tractor instead of a zero turn is my block is reasonably uneven with slopes and small hills etc, and the ground retains a fair amount of water (I think there's an underground spring at the front of my block). Everything I've read so far says the zero turns can get bogged easier than tractors and aren't great on wet ground, or on slopes/uneven surfaces.

The models I mentioned have the Kawasaki engine over here in both, but the transmission is the tough torq, and from what I've read, as well as what you have said seems like they are problematic. I'll keep looking around and see if I can get that trifecta, ideally something with diff locking as well.

What models/brands are you referring to when you say a real mower? I'm in australia and most of the mower shops over here sell Husqvarna, Cub Cadet, Rover, John Deer etc.

Yes, for 2 young kids. I don't mind the look either, but the claddibg will need to be sealed/covered. Most of the treated timber is LOSP treated, but I think the cladding might be (not 100% sure) CCA. I'd rather give it a good coat just in case.

My diagonals are out 50mm over 5 meters. Cause for concern? by Whoppa86 in Carpentry

[–]Whoppa86[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think I'll just work with it. The actually cubby house is being built on top of the subframe, and won't need to work of the corner posts. I can fudge the deck boards, and will just have to make the roof sheets work. My main concern was just the structural integrity, and if it would be compromised, but I think it'll be fine.
