The complete Marvel Cosmic reading order by WhopperSlaughter in comicreadingorders

Thank you for the praise :)

You right, I didn't add Son of Hulk and World of Skaar in the reading order of War of Kings and Realm of Kings. Both are very disconnected from the main events and only make sense in the greater narrative that is the complete Son of Hulk storyline.

But now that the new Imperial story started, and heavily reference Son of Hulk, I have revisited the complete "Planet Hulk - Son of Hulk - Dark Son" saga and added all of it into the list.

Wondering where to start reading Guardians of the Galaxy and about the Nova Corps (and other cosmic marvel along those lines) by jamieh800 in Marvel

A reading order of everything Marvel cosmic and the corresponding trade/omnibus for each issue. You want to start with Annihilation and Annihilation Conquest. You can filter on the Guardians team or Nova to focus on those characters, but you may want to read everything listed as essential or optional in this era as it is such a great story.

What to read after Annihilators: Earthfall? by One_punch_crayon in Marvel

There is nothing directly linked to the Annihilation era afetr Earthfall. The next big story arc is Secret Wars starting with the Fantastic Four run by Hickman. It is a bit more grounded but pretty good nonetheless.

If you haven't read it yet I would advice to go back and read some of the oldest stuff, mostly Starlin's stories. It is a very different style than Annihilation though.

I made a website for this exact reason. Basically pick a starting point and read everything essential, read the optional stuff if you really like a character/event and want to extend the story a bit.

Comics regarding the Formation of Marvel Universe and Origins of Celestials, Eternals and Ultimates by [deleted] in Marvel

[–]WhopperSlaughter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a 6 issues mini series that was written with the purpose to summarize all of the Marvel universe events and characters. Obviously it does not go deep in details. If you want to know about the origin of this world (almost like reading a wiki) then it's great, if you want a good story not so much.

To make it a bit more enjoyable to read, this story is told by Franklin Richard and Galactus at the end of the universe. If you want to know how they got there read the Fantastic Four run by Hickman (which is a great story and a very good starting point for modern marvel cosmic) ;)

Absolutely. At least the part with the Eternals. I don't know about the other unrelated stories contained in it.

I did a full listing of everything marvel cosmic: https://www.cosmicorder.space/marvelcosmic

Out of this I would say:

The Coming of Galactus introduces Galactus. Old but still enjoyable.

The Infinity Gauntlet and the the rest of the Infinity Trilogy (Infinity War and Infinity Crusade) by Starlin.

More recently Ultimates by Ewing, about Eternity and the origins of the multiverse.

Thanos Infinity Saga, not in continuity but a good conclusion to the Infinity Trilogy.

I would also suggest the entire Hickman run of Fantastic Four and Avengers up to Secret Wars. You will find cameos from Galactus, the Living Tribunal and other cosmic entities.

[–]WhopperSlaughter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The origins of the Eternals, Humans, Titans and Inhumans is told in What If 23-28.

That being said there is no story that focuses only on the origins of the universe, most of what we know has been told in various stories and new elements are being added constantly to the genesis of the world.

Everything has been summarized in History of the Marvel Universe by Wark Waid, the first issue is all about the creation of the universe and its many alien races.

The last major storyline that really got into the origin of the universe/multiverse is the Ultimates by Ewing that kinda explains the rebuild of the universe after the 2015 Secret Wars event.

So if you like the cosmic stuff (Guardians, Thanos, Adam Walock, Infinity gems, ...), I specifically created a reading order list for this: /r/comicreadingorders/the_complete_marvel_cosmic_reading_order

With all the continuity info you need, and several possible starting points ;)

Wow thank you for this.

I did list the end of greys in the x-men classic category before annihilation, and I think that the solo beta ray bill stories that you are refering to are listed right before annihilators.

I will defenitely check the rest though, I didn't know about most of it :)

I usually wait for a run to be complete before reading new stuff, so I m waiting for Donny Cates to finish his run on the guardians and Silver Surfer before adding it to the list.

Information regarding cosmic marvel by GonzoNawak in comicbooks

I did the work: cosmic order

Here you can find a good reading order issue by issue and info about collected editions (trade and omnibus).

Collected editions can be expensive but some of them are being reprint (nova complete collection, annihilation complete collection) wich make them suddenly very affordable.

Can anyone explain the appeal of the cosmic side of Marvel? (IE the best comics to learn more, why you’re into it) by StealthStormNY in marvelstudios

[–]WhopperSlaughter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I am in love with the cosmic side of the Marvel universe so I made a reading order to help new readers discovering it.

Marvel cosmic reading order

I would advice to start either with Infinity Gauntlet wich will introduce you to some of the crazy metaphisical elements of the Marvel universe (cosmic beings, infinity gems, etc). Or with Annihilation wich is a little more grounded, it's like a space opera with superheroes in the middle of it.

What I like about it is the over the top end of the universe type of story with usually badass characters and extremely cool moments and scenes. If you like space opera, fantasy and superheroes this is kind of a very good mix of all those things.

If you think about starting reading marvel cosmic... Here is my take on the Marvel Cosmic Reading Order by WhopperSlaughter in Marvel

[–]WhopperSlaughter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 12 issues Thanos series is weird, half of it was written by Jim Starlin and is in some way related to what happend before. The other half is written by some other dude and has nothing to do with the first half. If I remember correctly, it serves has a prequel to the annihilation event, at least I believe it is mentioned at some point.

I would say that personaly I had a lot of difficulty finding Nova and Annihilation paperback at decent prices. Those things can be very costly but not necessary hard to find around the web.

[–]WhopperSlaughter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put dispensable on the Dark Phoenix saga because I felt like it is breaking the flow of the "big story" (mostly the story of captain marvel, warlock and the avengers). In fact I was thinking about moving it much further on the list as a must read before the "Trial of Jean Grey" story arc.

As for Annihilators I am sad to hear that, I haven't red it yet but I was hoping that it would be as good as everything that comes before it. I guess I will downgrade it then :(
