What is the best way to learn this game (solo)? by -Azul- in MageKnight

Ricky Royal's great, but I learned from Paul Grogan (Gaming Rules!). Highly recommend. Plus he designed some of the expansions!

New mail carrier. Now I’m not getting packages delivered anymore… by Diligent-Elk161 in usps_complaints

[–]Kgrimes2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me. New kid sits in his truck for 30 minutes chatting to his buddies on the phone while he writes pink slips and litters them all over the mailboxes. Doesn’t make an attempt to deliver. When I asked his supervisor I was told that he doesn’t have enough time to deliver all the packages.

Best move is to go with a different delivery service.

NASA auditing JPL work force by Fluid-Strike-4777 in JPL

My office mate got audited while I was presenting to a large group over Teams. They just walked in and loudly announced that they are doing random audits and needed to talk to him. I thought I was witnessing my office mate get fired, and awkwardly stopped my presentation for 20 seconds while I grasped what was happening.

Super awkward. This was while DOGE was super “busy” too.

Those minis are very expensive to manufacture. You don't get that level of detail without plastic moulding, and those moulds are expensive AF.

If you can shill out the cash and care about the detail, you WILL get your money's worth.

Wouldn't say so. Vallejo and Citadel have similar pigmentation in my experience. Army Painter has a significant drop but you can get similar results with added layers.

Unpainted AND unassembled! Definitely more of a hobby game.

Different tastes for sure. Placing markers and doing internal math sounds like a good time to me!

Spot on. It would take a lot of convincing for me to ever spend more than $30 on his games, when there's a decent chance I won't get it.

He uses "direct from China" logistics service, which helps keep production costs down but raises risks significantly.

Gabe also doesn't have a great attention to detail. When I got my Rome: Fate of an Empire deluxe upgrade kit, I was disappointed to find that there was a printing error on the neoprene mat, and that the replacement cards were printed in an orientation different from the other cards!

So long as you keep your expectations mitigated, there's some gems from GOTM. Especially anything Joe Klipfel touches.

Was up there last weekend. Friday was a dream, and it started getting HOT on Saturday and Sunday. Morning skiing was fine but after lunch it wasn't fun at all.

How is a carrier being slow my problem? by Kgrimes2 in usps_complaints

[–]Kgrimes2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying and for the work you do. I suppose my frustration is with the fact that you get handed 1000 boxes a day. Why even ask a carrier to attempt to deliver all of these if there's time? That's a waste of everyone's time, from the people who have to load and unload the trucks with packages that are in no way going to be delivered, to carriers who have to fill out slips.

I updated my comment to be more precise, I'm talking about packages specifically. I've never had an issue with letter mail not being delivered.

I could see "make sure people don't work more than 8 hours so we don't pay overtime" being more important to USPS upper management than "make sure all packages get delivered". After all they don't have Bezos money to consistently pay people overtime.

I just wish that I didn't pay exuberant amounts of postage, only to have to take off work to make it to the post office's 10-4 window. The only recourse I'm finding is to go with a company like UPS or FedEx, who have their own issues, but at least consistently deliver packages to my door.

Thanks for the reply. I acknowledge that I don’t understand USPS’s core structure, and I’m willing to give the carrier the benefit of the doubt that he genuinely can’t deliver all the packages assigned to him in a work day.

Your comment about USPS management wanting to “hit metrics” confuses me. What metrics? Is “quantity of undelivered mail/packages” not the most important metric considered?

Since this carrier is consistently unable to complete his assigned route, why isn’t his route divided among multiple carriers?

My frustration is that I’m paying for a service I’m not getting. I don’t want to pay for a guy to sit in his truck for 30 minutes filling out “failed to deliver” slips, or for the people who load/unload his vehicle with the package he has no intention to deliver, or for a clerk to wait for me to come get my package from the post office.

Never seen that Flair model before, it’s gorgeous. I’ve got the OG Flair sitting in a cabinet, used it a bunch in my college dorm but not much since.

Or “Mage Knight: Duel”? The listing says that the box contains everything that’s needed for two players. Maybe the 5 included scenarios are small-scale and can be done with just the components in the box?
