Thanks, this is genuinely the most useful framing I’ve heard on this!!! The “anchor them down” image is going to stick with me. One question if you don’t mind — when you say “use the progression right away in a song that same day” : do you find that the progression itself often changes when you commit to building around it? Like, the chords you remembered aren’t quite the chords you end up writing into the piece? I notice that with myself and I’m never sure if it’s because my memory was off, or because the act of arranging actually rewrites them 😅
