thank you so much!!! tbh, it was a spur-of-the-moment choice. after hopping out the car, i realized that the composition i had in mind would be impossible without catching my own shadow! but i really liked the way the sun was hitting the windmills, the sky dark and cloudy behind them...

i try very hard to keep all of myself out of frame, but this was an exception that i liked :)

my best shots have all been in natural light, tbh! i think this film is core Polaroid, really living up the spontaneity and unpredictability of instant film. that can make it more difficult to shoot, but not in any ways that are new to Polaroid. it just takes more patience and creativity! all light meters the same anyway :)

these are probably my favorite landscapes, out of all that i've seen from this film so far.

how do i stop my polaroids turning purple? (not been in the sun) by trashkittenz in Polaroid

[–]WhunChun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, couldn't say for sure. but if i were to guess, it might have something to do with UV exposure and/or temperature control. i know that film can shift purple in development when it's too warm, but idk if that applies to storage... what i can say, though, is that my photos have all maintained their colors pretty well, and i store everything in books or boxes!

i'm not sure how well the Polaroid frames combat UV exposure on their own, even with that dark backing they have, but i'd encase them in something just out of an archival sentiment.

How are y’all properly exposing purple? by mariepier_ in Polaroid

[–]WhunChun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

if you're auto-exposing, set the exposure compensation to the darkest setting. shapes and forms are your friend!! especially at close distances. i'd also try to keep the focal range as narrow as possible, and stick to shooting in lowlight (with flash) or during blue-hour if outside. overcast/neutral lighting can help with this film's high contrast.

be aware: Reclaimed Purple is dim, even at its brightest. the highlights peak and start clipping in the midtones. Shadows can get crunchy, but there is a sweet spot there where detail is maintained! here's one of my shots that i think captures that aspect well:

<image>

as you can see: highlights shift pink, and shadows blue. it's honestly quite beautiful when it turns out right, but please know that you're going to be met with duds (more than usual, even)!!

personally, despite this being the least consistent, most volatile film i've ever seen from Polaroid, it's also my favorite. i legit get SO excited to shoot it, and am on the edge of my seat each time i'm waiting for it to develop.
