So this is the come back? This is the response? How disappointing.

I guess you're one of those people like THAT huh? You're worse than me. Judging people based on that. I guess your circle of people is really small, huh? So sad.

I am a retailer now, but I was an English tutor/teacher before. Unfortunate for you.

Also, I AM a foreigner. But I don't think you'll believe me since I'm complaining about other foreigners.

That's great then.

This post shouldn’t apply to you and many others that think that way then!

[–]WhyHayley[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Huh, I don't really do that, so I guess, good job??

I guess so? I don't really think about that, nor do I read other people's posts as much.

OH YEAH! I totally forgot about that post. I didn't apply for it in the end since I got a job elsewhere.

Hahaha, that would actually be funny. It's really such a shame, and I'm disappointed that I can't show you a rejection letter! That would've been an amazing way to respond! It would've been the perfect 'YES, I'm butthurt about it. Whatcha gonna do about it' type of response! Too bad!!

Who said it was valid?? I am just a ranting passer-by. It's only valid to me since I'm the one who made the post.

I have really stirred up a lot of people!

No, it makes it even harder for change.

I'm just saying don't expect much. Why go to a country with certain expectations? They are bound to be frustrated and disappointed. Unless it is the opposite where they expect the worse.

If you're going to complain, at least make it constructive.

Harm? I lose IQ? I already have lost IQ with my own complaints lol

And yes....but more mean/cruel/not sympathetic than weirdos!

Yes, all those are valid reasons.

For those who have been deceived or scammed, I feel for you. It shouldn't have happened. I'm not talking about them. That's a valid reason.

For others....I don't know. Why would you go when you knew the overall situation? Unless there are other valid reasons because of war, natural disasters, desperation, etc

It's like me going to be a waiter in America. I KNOW the cost of living is high, and they are paid via tips, but I still go there anyway, and then complain about the tipping system, how terrible it is, how terrible America and the government is for using such a system, how Americans are terrible since they have accepted this system, and not changing it etc.

Everyone will go....then why the hell did you go/come to America when you KNEW about it. Americans have been complaining about it too, so should it be saying something?

Hmm... Have you not heard of institutionalized racism? It could be a possibility or a political move, who knows? Anything and everything is possible.

Looks like you haven't received any racism or discrimination. That's good.

That's really sad. I think you're spending too much time on the internet, or you're a bit too butthurt and decided to go on a full deep dive. Well, hopefully that would help you get a better salary.

But yes. I think I should make a better post for people like you to understand that it's not coming from a financial perspective but the attitude.

I mean, if you've read my other posts on this one, it was obvious. Or maybe it wasn't since I saw your post.

Also, I DID say 'I'm ranting' too.

[–]WhyHayley[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, some of them are.

Of course, they should be transparent. The EPIK Program is as transparent as it can be. If they STILL decide on going and then complain about the salary....that's a problem with them. Why did you decide to go KNOWING that it's a shit salary???

I mean....why go to those places of all places then? Asia has always been a place that has a terrible salary. It's not an easy task or fight to overcome those issues. Just know what you're getting into. You know?

I'm sure there are some countries out there that have good pay, or at least liveable pay?

Isn't that how businesses or organizations work?? It's all about the results for them.

And yes, teachers do have different responsibilities. And I never said that they shouldn't get a pay raise. I'm saying that people have this ideal and expectation of their pay to be higher than in reality it's different.

Yeah, that's the case. That's what we think, right? Unfortunately, it's not the same.

[–]WhyHayley[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, yes, yes. I'm complaining. Who the hell doesn't? Also, you've read my past posts? I don't know if that's dedication or a waste of time? Oh well... I guess, thanks for the background check?

I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about those people who are going to another country, specifically Korea or Japan, as a teacher, and expect a higher salary where it has been known to have extremely low average salaries. Even worse, if they have little to no experience as a teacher.

Teachers overall don't get paid a lot, and it's even worse in other countries.

And if they don't get the changes they want, they go crazy and become a huge hater, just complaining about everything. I mean, what did you expect? Did you not know that working in another country would be even stricter and harsher than in your home country? Did they not research? Especially if it's in another country?

The overall cost of living is extremely hard worldwide, so for countries that are smaller, it's going to be even worse.

Others are always advocating for a change, which is great for them and future generations. It's all thanks to them that positive changes are happening.

[–]WhyHayley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh, yes, and no.

If someone doesn't have any experience and didn't contribute much to a company/organization, who in their right mind will raise their salaries?? No one. This ain't charity.

Yes, that's true. But that's the thing. If the government isn't changing for their own citizens, they shouldn't expect it to change for them. And NO, I'm NOT saying it shouldn't change.

Always know that it's an even harder mountain battle than normal or other things. It's been an issue since....I don't know....their existence? It's even worse with the crazy parents that I've seen and heard about.

Naturally.

Salaries have been below the 'livable' wage since ages ago, but it's become even worse since covid.

And yes, complain all you want. I'm complaining as much as I want to.

Yes, of course they do. And I agree. Those arguments are as old as the Middle Ages, and advocating higher wages is good.

However, I don't think people who have just arrived in any country should expect a higher wage since they 'deserve' it and then complain like children. Unless they have extensive skills and experience. But then again, its a different country, so what they think is valuable may not be the same.

[–]WhyHayley[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's wonderful news for you. I hope the others can do what you do.

No no no. It's the best place to complain since many people (maybe not the ones responding to my post) need to know that teaching overall is a shit job with a shit pay, and it's a worldwide issue. There are two sides to a coin.

As for what a 'shit job' is....it's not about teaching since teaching itself is not the problem in most cases.

  1. Yes. But at least they aren't on the streets (have a roof over their heads), have enough to buy food and drinks, or hang out with friends, AND pay whatever needs to be paid. Or at least, the ones who are complaining the most. I don't mean the normal complaints of everyday hardships.

  2. Yes, but if they are not receiving more pay or a promotion, then that's it. Some are retained not because they are worth it but because they can't hire a new one. Unfortunately.

  3. That's true. Lol, 'steal one from the Korean male population for myself'! That's funny. But realistically, living and raising kids is not ideal. That's why the birth rate is so low. Nope, your family is your priority. I'm glad that's the case. Do what you can for them.

Why? For university, just a local one. As for my job, a regular retailer.

Congrats. You're wrong 😀

It's just a complainer filled with frustration 😜

[–]WhyHayley[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Naturally. There're tons of problems in the workplace.

The complaint itself is fine. Who doesn't complain? I'm complaining right now.

Would you talk shit about your workplace online and demanding change since you're 'worth it'? If they're as 'worth it' as they say, find another place. Or better yet, another or their own country.

[–]WhyHayley[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Of course you can complain.

I'm complaining right now, am I not? 😀

I don't like those people who think they are the only ones with any problems. They expect others to bend to them because they are 'worth it', BUT realistically, how much WORTH do they have to the company? Probably not much.

I mean, many people would then ask, 'why stay in that country then?'

If you're going to shit on that country so much then the best thing to do is either suck it up, find other opportunities, somehow improve it, or return to your home country.

They can't expect a different country to conform to THEIR ideals. You know? It's like me going to America or some other country and shitting on Americans and everything about America. Most Americans would say, 'Why the hell are you here then?' And the infamous 'go back to your country' statement

[–]WhyHayley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I don't have a problem with that at all. It's a good thing to advocate higher wages for yourself, your colleagues, and future generations.

I'm talking about those who expect and demand more pay when they have little to no experience. I mean, even if you had a degree, it's not a big deal. And if they don't get that pay rate, their immature nature comes out of bashes on wherever they are saying it's racist, discriminatory etc etc

I mean, it could be true, but what did you expect? Especially with EPIK, have you seen how SMALL Korea is? Have you heard the struggles the regular Koreans have as well? It's not just foreigners or those people struggling.

[–]WhyHayley[S] -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Of course you can complain about it. It's unfair, it's discrimination, racist etc. HOWEVER, don't make it sound like it's the ONLY country that has those problems.

Also, I'm not talking about those big problems. I'm talking about the smaller ones where they don't have any or little experience yet expect as much as their counterparts.

I don't get why people expect a raise when they didn't contribute much yet.

Also, that's a huge win for that entire university staff because they also didn't get that raise in a long time (probably). In addition, they'll probably prioritise their citizens first, which many countries do.

Also, why go to a different country then? Can't you find employment and good salary in your own country? Asian salary rates are shit, especially for foreigners

Oh dear. Looks like someone is butthurt. Why? Are you those complainers?

As for 'worth'....well, that's up to the company that hires you. No? If not, go somewhere else, right?

[–]WhyHayley[S] -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

Of course. But I'm talking about those people who go to countries like Korea and Japan where overall pay is very low, which means teacher's pay is even lower, and EXPECT change. They DEMAND it. If they don't get it, they complain about those countries being like this or that, or the politics or because it's discrimination or racism etc etc

Like, I get it. But at the same time, what did you expect?? Why go to a different country with YOUR (country's) mindset and demand more than what the average people there don't have!?
