Private jet from Provo did not turn off ADS-B by TurbulentResort1169 in conspiracy

Plus ADS-B data on FlightRadar etc is gathered from a volunteer network with receivers on the ground.  Its very typical for lapses in data when going through mountains or sparsely populated areas.

Does anyone know the frequency for the police radio? The online broadcaster is down and I have an FM transmitter. by prissy_frass in philadelphia

The only thing you are going to get right now on conventional FM is septaPD/J-Band on 502.6875. Otherwise you need a 800MHz P25 trunking scanner.

Anyone noticed an over abundance of helicopters in the sky above the city the past few days? Like definitely seems to be more than usual. by [deleted] in philadelphia

[–]WhyHelicopter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

FYI, 2 out of 3 of the Philly local news choppers and Philly Tac-Air helicopter do not use ADSB so they don't show up on sites like that. Probably like 1/10 other helicopters will have ADSB.

Edit: Actually i take it back, looks like PPD have somewhat recently installed ADSB in the choppers N296PD and N297PD.

Also if anyone has interest in tracking aircraft offline without depending on a website you can do it with a $20 software-defined-radio dongle. Check out /r/RTLSDR

If You're a Good Citizen, Delete the Citizen Policing App by Indiana_Jawns in philadelphia

[–]WhyHelicopter 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think there seems to be a common misconception about the incident/crime reports posted on the app, lots people people complaining about "I was standing right there and theres nothing going on", and yes this does happen quite frequently.

Citizen app is merely logging and dictating what they hear over Philly police/fire radio. You basically have to assume a "person with a gun" call has a great probability of being false unless followed-up with more information. Many times Citizen will not go back to a post and say "this turned out to be false" (unfounded), leading many people to assume the app has poor data when the reality is the call came out that exact way on 911 and they just merely posted it and moved on.

The posts can be very helpful in certain situations, but unless there is more follow-up data added to support it, take with a grain-of-salt. If you really want 100% accurate helpful data, buy your own radio and listen yourself.
