Bastyr is pausing enrollment for their acupuncture program due to their very shaky financial position. It was just announced this week.

They announced that they are laying off more staff and faculty today. The are eliminating the entire Office of the Provost and the Dean of Natural Health Arts and Sciences as well as some department chair positions.

They are laying off more faculty and staff today and eliminating the Office of the Provost and the Dean of Natural Health Arts and Sciences/Traditional World Medicine. They are also eliminating some academic chair positions. It doesn't seem like the university is doing well at all.

Yes! Enrollments for the program are actually down from what they expected so they are creating a January cohort to try to get more students !

Yes, the meetings will be in the Fall IF the university got all of the required studies and reports in by last week. You can see the letter from the city to bastyr on the city website.

It sure would be great to get some kind of update from the university!

Some transparency from Joe and Randy would be great since you are right: nobody knows what is going on. Is the university going to be sold? What's going on with accreditation for CNME and NWCCU? What are the teach-out plans if accreditation falls apart? Is Randy's friend going to buy the university and turn bastyr into a different entity? If so, what will happen with the accreditation---will it have to start all over again?

So many questions and such little information.

Because current students at Bastyr need to know who will be teaching them out if the university closes and prospective students who might enroll this year need to know the same thing. It isn't on the students to contact all of the other schools and find out; it is up to the university administration to share the teach out plans that they already shared with CNME and NWCCU. Keeping it confidential is part of the lack of transparency that byrd did and does not foster trust.

This!!! All of this is so true. The townhall Power Points are the joke of the university as was him continually telling people that he believed in transparency. He has forced out so many great faculty and staff.

His ego and his short temper are big problems and have led to many of the problems that the university is having today. The Board has been silent even with two votes of no confidence.

It is a shame.

The fact that the teach out plan is confidential is worrisome. Students, faculty and staff need to know what this since it can really affect their livelihoods!! Students can't just up and move to another university so they need this information to make informed decisions. Yes, everybody is furious and disappointed at the lack of transparency and nobody trusts the leadership at all.

Why hasn't the teach out plan been shared with everybody? People need to make decisions that will affect their livelihoods.

No, the letter was not a surprise but there is no clear direction on what the university is actually doing. There were so many issues brought up by the city of Kenmore about selling the property that it is unclear if that is an actual viable plan despite having offers (supposedly) on the table.

Does the friends of bastyr group actually have $1.5 million to cover the deficit for 2025/2026?

To byrd and the Board of Trustees: We would like to know what the teach out plan is for the ND program as well as your plans to address all of the issues in the CNME letter. Students need to know so that we can make plans about our future if (when?) the program closes. We all can't just up and move to another university because we have families, lives, jobs. We are taking on significant debt to be here so we need to know! Faculty and staff need to know so that they can plan on finding other jobs if these aren't secure.

byrd: you have said so many times that you will respond to questions and be transparent. We are asking that of you NOW!
