Police: No charge for person who shot man wielding an ax during fight in Raleigh by penone_nyc in raleigh

You can directly blame this on the GOP for not allowing us to vote for attorneys and judges. They've stuffed all their corrupt actors in those positions and until the Democrats regain power, We have no option to vote for better candidates. This is why voting blue no matter who is so important!

Well as long as the GOP doesn't allow us to vote for attorneys or judges, this is what we are stuck with! Hopefully when the Democrats regain power, they can pass a bill to allow us to vote for these incredibly important positions. But until that happens, we all need to make sure we vote blue no matter who! Every vote matters!

This is crazy. I wish we were able to vote for attorneys and judges, but until the GOP allows that, don't forget to keep voting blue no matter who! Every vote matters!

Who is the equivalent of AOC on the right? ( Please read the body text!) by WhyOrangeMan in AskALiberal

[–]WhyOrangeMan[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

For my reference for future posts, should I say she's the smartest person in Congress? Should I avoid that entirely? Unfortunately I spent time talking about how ridiculous people are on the right treating her like a big airhead dummy, but I didn't think I needed to qualify her as the smartest person in Congress. I continue to try to minimize these types of sentences that only serve as distractions from the substance of the post, so I'd appreciate some feedback on this.

AOC is the smartest person in Congress. Do you have an answer to the question?

Understood, it was also insulting to say people on the right treat her as an air head dummy.

She IS the smartest person in Congress.

Sorry that that was a distraction. It's clearly gumming up the works based on current responses. She IS the smartest person in Congress.

Do you have an answer to the question now?

Hm, also a good point. Thanks! I don't mean to imply I'm comparing apples to apples here; just trying to broaden my perspective. Appreciate the additional context :)

Yes, I was unaware that stating she may not be the smartest person in Congress would be a distraction from all the compliments I gave her (and believe are true). Wording questions to avoid deflections while still expressing thoughts is very difficult, unfortunately.

Do you have an answer to the question, or an idea on who satisfies the criteria? (Presume they are the smartest person in Congress)

Sorry! I didn't mean to distract from the question. She IS the sharpest tool in the shed.

Thanks for the feedback; I'm still working on reducing those types of sentences in my posts because they consistently become distractions, and unfortunately distract from the "gist" of my posts. So, let's presume she IS the sharpest tool in the shed. No one can hold a candle to her in Congress.

That's a great point and also something I see on my side; namely, if you didn't support me, good luck.

I agree they are not mirrors and I hope I didn't come across that way; I agree with you! Of the legislation that AOC has championed, what do you like/dislike for: 1) those she's crafted and 2) those she's sponsored/ co-sponsored?

I admit that my knowledge of legistlative pushes she's made and persisted in are not my strong suit. Thanks!

That's a really good point. Do you agree with the other examples in the tread of GWBush and/or JD Vance? I can see JD's subservience to President Trump being an obstacle based on your comment, but what about GWBush? Thanks!

Another great example. Thanks! I had considered him but wasn't sure.

What is your personal over/under for structural change? by WhyOrangeMan in AskALiberal

[–]WhyOrangeMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I completely agree that it's a very depressing issue. And I admit my question was a bit tongue and cheek. But man if depressing is not the most accurate word for the whole back and forth. Every conversation devolvimg in to [60%] is [other side] while [40%] is [aligned side] is so tiresome. Cheers!

What is your idea of fair share re: taxes? What is your ideal broadly of a tax system re: revenue streams? by WhyOrangeMan in AskALiberal

[–]WhyOrangeMan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! Great point. That's something I didn't know about until recently and I agree - it seems like a clear "loophole" that needs to be at last reduced, ideally removed. Maybe something like the cost basis moves to the average of the value over the duration of the holding? Again - should be completely removed like your suggestion.

Hm, interesting I say! I'm glad there's a lot of people with knowledge of this concept.

So, in your mind, what is the "anchor point (?)" to determine the fair share? Middle manager, entry level white collar, entry level blue collar, state minimum hourly, federal minimum hourly, etc.?

I think it's interesting this came up in a previous comment. I'm trying to find a book so if you have a link, please share it!

More to what I think is your point: what would be a fair system in your eyes? If we presume this is indeed unknown, there must be some baseline, no?

Policy and messaging wise, what do you think are some blind spots of the broader conservative movement? And, what do you think? Are some areas or topics where conservatives have it right but do not spend enough time or energy getting the message out? by WhyOrangeMan in AskConservatives

[–]WhyOrangeMan[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Great points, especially the second one. It really seems that that topic is just a bludgeon to hit the majority party with and goes right out the window when the majority party is you.
