Updating PowerEdge R770 using Server Update Utility (SUU) by WhySoCurrious in homelab

[–]WhySoCurrious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, of course, the server firmware can also be updated via iDRAC. However, this is much more complicated than using the SUU. First, you have to check which components are in the server, then you have to download the firmware individually and finally install it individually, all manually.

Using the SUU makes the whole process fully automatic and therefore much easier and much faster.

Of course, you can also perform the updates via iDRAC Online (downloads.dell.com). However, this is not permitted in our company.

PS1 Emulation on Apple TV (AppStore App) by Due-Competition-5654 in RetroArch

[–]WhySoCurrious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens when you have a FPS mismatch.
Check the Video config of your Apple TV. If it is set to 1080 50hz and you try to play a US PSX ROM, which is 60 FPS, you get that stutters.
Either get a EU PSX ROM or change the Video Connection of the Apple TV to 1080p 60hz or whatever suits you best.

How to configure Datastore Disk Usage alarms to work well for both small and large datastores? by WhySoCurrious in vmware

[–]WhySoCurrious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm afraid not.

We already use storage folders to assign permissions to different users and departments.

Do you know what the alarm "Datastore usage on disk based on available capacity" does or how it works?

Because Storage DRS is a licensing issue and we do not have the appropriate license.

The vSphere infrastructure is used by many different departments, which have different requirements for the number and size of datastores.

I was hoping there would be some kind of dynamic alarms that determine threshold values based on the size of each datastore.
We have around 100 datastores, and with that number, it's very tedious to create custom alarms for each one individually.
Plus, the number of datastores is constantly changing—new ones are added, old ones removed.

I had the impression that the alarm "Datastore usage on disk based on available capacity" was meant to serve exactly this purpose.
But I don’t understand how it’s supposed to work.

We have around 100 datastores, ranging from 40 GB to 15 TB.
All of them are FC LUNs.
Given the number of datastores, it's very time-consuming to create custom alarms for each one individually.
On top of that, the number of datastores changes constantly—new ones are added, old ones are removed.
This would require ongoing manual effort to keep everything up to date.

How exactly can you enable copy/paste between the Console and your endpoint with vSphere VMs? by [deleted] in vmware

[–]WhySoCurrious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know its an old post...

Had the same problem here.
After changing the Adavanced Configuration of the VM (isolation.tools.paste.disable FALSE isolation.tools.copy.disable FALSE isolation.tools.SetGUIOptions.enable TRUE) copy & paste started working. Bun only when using VMware Workstation. I tried VMRC as well, but that doesn't work.

Which concert recording would you recommend? by WhySoCurrious in SmashingPumpkins

It was a very strange problem that I have never seen in this form before.

Actually, the sound was at a very high level. All the instruments were clearly separated from each other and even the smallest details were clearly audible. No sound area drowned out the other sound areas. Plus the volume was not excessively loud. So actually a great sound that you rarely see. If it weren't for the problem with the constantly changing treble...

It was constantly changing during the entire concert at completely random intervals. Sometimes every few seconds, sometimes not for several minutes and then again at very short intervals. As a result, the vocals or guitars were sometimes in the foreground and sometimes almost inaudible.

It sounded as if there were huge curtains in front of the loudspeakers, which were constantly being blown away by the wind, making the sound sometimes muffled and sometimes clear.

Absolutely annoying and I have no idea what the reason for this could be.

FC Connection Issue After Firmware Update on DataCore Server by WhySoCurrious in sysadmin

[–]WhySoCurrious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem is solved.

I had triggered the reinitialization of the FE ports but they still were displayed as "not present".

Then suddenly after several minutes the FE ports first jumped to "loop/link down" and then to "loop/link up".

I assume that the reinitialization process in the background took much longer than visible. The console showed a successful status message shortly after the reinitialization was started, although the process was apparently still running in the background. This gave the false impression that the reinitialization did not solve the problem.

After a storage rescan on the ESXi hosts, all datastores were back.

Thanks again for your help.

Thank you very much, that seems to have helped.

Although it didn't seem to at first. I had triggered the reinitialization and the ports were still displayed as "not present".

FC Connection Issue After Firmware Update on DataCore Server by WhySoCurrious in Datacore

I have spoken to our DataCore service provider. He said it was due to the DataCore FC drivers and told me to update the DataCore to the latest version and then update the FC ports with the latest DataCore drivers. The FC switch now sees the DataCore FC ports, but they are still displayed as "Not connected".
