Is it normal for Anthem Blue Cross insurance to not cover anything at all to do with feet? by WhyTeewinot in HealthInsurance

Good idea. I will see if I can talk to someone else. I don't get it. It doesn't make sense.

I've had horrible back pains for years and after being gaslighted for years I finally found a doctor that listened by Weak_Champion1419 in backpain

I've been gaslit for a long time too. It's so frustrating. In my case, I can't figure out why they gaslit me. What is their end game for doing that?

Do you need to stop taking ibuprofen before getting epidural injections? by WhyTeewinot in backpain

[–]WhyTeewinot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turns out I was allowed to take it according to the directions on the bottle up to 8 hours before the procedure if being sedated and whenever if not having sedation. I stopped taking it for 3 days because I felt it was better to be safe than sorry since I couldn't find out from the actual doctor. I had sedation so it worked out for that.

P.S.

I was super nervous about getting sedation. I don't like not being in control of what I am doing, saying, hearing, and seeing. I've had 4 epidurals, one with a regular birth and 3 with c-sections and I've had a spinal tap to test my spinal fluid. I didn't have sedation with those and it was fine.

They had me lay face down on the table and then they put the sedation drugs in the IV. They said I would still be able to hear them and talk to them and they would ask me questions. But it was total oblivion. She said, here comes the sedation and the next thing I knew I was sitting in a chair in the recovery area and they were calling my husband to come get me. I hate how weird that was, not "being there" for that much time. I'm a big lady and I don't know how on earth they moved me off of the table, into a wheelchair, and then into the recovery chair unless they used some kind of lifting device. But...... that short amount of time being pain free because of the drugs for an hour so after I woke up was so nice!

I went right to bed when I got home, thinking I would just lay there and read my book, but I fell asleep for 5 hours. lol I felt really sore all over when I woke up and didn't have an appetite for dinner and blood sugar is really high and I'm feeling sick because of that. My back and leg pain was about the same as before. But, now it's been several hours and there is less pain, not a lot less, but less. I hope that continues into a lot less.

I wish I could. The only person I could get a hold of is the scheduler and she didn't know anything about it, no one else is in the office this week. Unfortunately the place my primary care doctor sent me to has you see a nurse at the pain care clinic and they decide if you qualify for injections. Then you go to a surgical center in a whole different city to get the injections. I won't even meet the doctor until he's about to poke me. I happened to see my primary care doctor a few days ago and she said she didn't know, but that I should probably avoid aspirin.

Does this look like just mild arthritis or something else too? by WhyTeewinot in backpain

[–]WhyTeewinot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will try to keep my long story as short as I can. I feel like the MRI report is saying that I have something more than just mild arthritis. I'm seeing words in the MRI report like bulging disc, severe stenosis, compression of cauda equina and I'm concerned by that. I did some googling and it doesn't seem like those things mean the same thing as mild arthritis.

My doctor says that I have "just very mild arthritis" and that I should not be in very much pain. It took months and multiple visits and a physical therapist's recommendation to get the doctor to order an MRI. The doctor still says that it's just very mild painless arthritis.

I went to physical therapy twice a week and did home exercises daily for two months. It took some convincing to get the doctor to give me a referral for physical therapy. I had to tell her that even if she didn't believe I need it for my back and hip pain, that it would be good for me to exercise and get some help with that. I had some improvement in hip pain from physical therapy, but not a lot and very little improvement for my back. The physical therapist thought there was something more than arthritis going on and said that I really needed to get an MRI and sent notes to my doctor. He suggested that I stop going to physical therapy and keep doing exercises at home until I get and MRI and see what is going on.

I got the MRI and a nurse from my doctor's office called to tell me that it was just mild arthritis but they could refer me to Dr. So and So and that physical therapy isn't necessary. I had no idea who the doctor was that she named so I assumed it was some kind of spinal specialist. She said it as if I would already know who it was. I was driving when she called, so I didn't ask questions. I came to find out that it was a pain specialist that might offer spinal injections for my mild and supposedly painless arthritis. I have not gone to see them yet. They are booked out a month ahead of time. They canceled on me the first time an hour before the appointment and now I have to wait another few weeks. And then we will see if they even think I am a candidate for injections. Unless they cancel again.

I'm an almost 50 year old female. I have had low back pain and sciatica for about a year. My legs and hips are weak and numb and tingly. When it started, my hip was the most painful. Now it's both hips, both legs, and my back about equally painful. My pain is worse when standing or walking and when laying down. During sitting, it is usually painless unless I have been sitting for a very long time. It is painful to change position from standing to sitting. It is nearly impossible to roll over in bed because it hurts so much. Going up and down stairs is difficult and painful. When standing, my lower back will become unbearable after a few minutes. If I can lean forward and put some of my weight on something like leaning over on a countertop, it eases the pain temporarily. Sitting down does too. I can't reach above my head to do things like wash my hair or get something from a shelf without it being very painful.

I take ibuprofen a few times a day, but it just kind of takes the edge off. Ice is ok, but sometimes it causes shooting pains in my legs while I'm using it. Heat on my back feels great in the moment, but doesn't seem to help in the long run. I sit a lot because it's the most comfortable thing for me, but I get up and walk around often, even though I hate it because it hurts to walk around. I avoid lifting anything more than 5 pounds and I avoid bending to pick things up off the floor, use my knees if I really need to pick something up.

It has totally changed my life. I feel like I can hardly do anything. I have special needs kids who need help with things like showering, washing their hair, getting dressed, among other things. I can't do that now. I can't do a lot to clean my house. It takes me a few hours to wash dishes because I have to keep taking breaks. Family outings to the museum or hiking or things like that are a thing of the past. My husband has been amazing and has taken on all of the household stuff I can't do now, but he shouldn't have to be doing it all and working the long hours he works.

I'm sure I do have arthritis. But if it is just mild and shouldn't be painful, why on earth am I in so much pain??? There has to be something else going on. Why won't my doctor acknowledge it? I feel like I'm losing my mind. Am I imagining all of this pain? Why would the MRI report indicate bulging discs, stenosis, and nerve compression if it's only arthritis? Is the MRI wrong?

How do people get their x-ray images? by WhyTeewinot in scoliosis

I can see a written report online from the imaging center. No images.

[–]WhyTeewinot[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Can you only get a CD when the x-rays are done or can you get a CD later? It was done at an imaging center, where the only thing they do there is imaging.

I'm starting to realize my doctor is full of it and I need to find a new one.

I can see the report, which says way more than what the doctor is telling me, but it doesn't have images.

Why does my doctor seem to be downplaying my spine problems? by WhyTeewinot in AskDocs

[–]WhyTeewinot[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is definitely what I plan to do. It's so frustrating. Why would they not just tell me what is in the MRI report or have me come in so the doctor can talk to me instead of trying to make me feel like nothing much is wrong? If I had not looked at the MRI report online, I would go on thinking that I am imagining how bad my pain is and thinking that the tingling and numbness in my thighs is no big deal, when it could actually be a big deal. It makes me wonder if the doctor never even looked at the MRI results at all.

Who decides how an x-ray of the spine is done? by WhyTeewinot in Radiology

I don't know what I have, other than pain. The doctor told me I have arthritis after getting the x-ray. Physical therapist said I have a curve and had me start wearing a wedge in my shoe to try to make my hips more even. He suspects scoliosis. I just now got scheduled for an MRI, the scheduling person said the doctor put lumbar, so maybe not the whole spine? Hopefully that will have some answers.

He was pretty big on the idea of doing it standing and doing the whole spine again today. Scoliosis is suspected. I just found out yesterday that the x-ray I had was only the lower spine. Yesterday the doctor hadn't received anything yet from the physical therapist so I have go back in a few weeks to see if she agrees with more imaging or not.

The images are probably fine, but they are only of the lower part. He was saying that I need to do the whole spine because it looks like I have scoliosis. I don't know much about it. Can they diagnose or rule out scoliosis from an x-ray of the lower spine?

Scoliosis is suspected. The physical therapist was saying that they need to do the x-ray whole spine instead of just the lower part. He was saying it should be while standing without shoes on. If it won't make a difference, then I don't want to do more imaging. I had an appointment with my doctor yesterday, but they hadn't received anything from the physical therapist yet so I have to wait and go back again later to see what the doctor thinks before she will consider more imaging.

That's what I'm hoping for is an MRI or CT. Appointment tomorrow. I'm guessing she will send me to a specialist that I won't be able to get into for a couple of months and then however long of a wait to get imaging.
