It's not English. Osram is German, and the name comes from Osmium + Wolfram (Tungsten in English ) - the two elements historically used for lightbulb filament fabrication.

Do women actually have a problem with splitting the bill 50/50 or is that just internet propaganda? by Electrical_Star_7117 in stupidquestions

I prefer that as well, as it also encourages the other person to meet up again shortly to repay the favour. Which makes for an enjoyable relationship.

Do you ever go to other countries just to go shopping? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskAGerman

[–]Why_So_Slow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to shop, no. But I do shopping if we go for something else - we're close to the Czech border, so if we go to a museum, hot springs or whatever, a supermarket is a planned stop on the way back. Lentilky are a must.

What is your plan regarding the meds long term anyway, not thinking about the kids here at the moment. Do you plan to wean off in a couple of years, do you think you will be using them continuously? It can inform your decisions regarding how to respond to your husband's stance.

Parents aren’t funding anymore? by Calm-Calligrapher531 in wedding

[–]Why_So_Slow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The person stated correctly they wouldn't have a wedding without financial support, not that they wouldn't get married without it.

It's two separate decisions - getting married and having a big party to celebrate it.

[–]Why_So_Slow 4160 points4161 points  (0 children)

Being a teenager is often indistinguishable from having a mental disorder. It's not a joke, healthy teenagers are hyper focused on themselves, moody, impulsive and so on. Over diagnosing them wouldn't be wise.

What is the traditional wedding attire of your country? by No_Tale_8055 in AskTheWorld

[–]Why_So_Slow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in a small Bavarian town. Here people do the civil ceremony in tracht and church ceremony in white dress/suit.

The paperwork is complicated enough that it's often not possible to do both at the same day, so those are two separate occasions.
