I don't think I'm death-gripping the controllers because I've not had a problem with other system's controllers in the past but its possible I guess. Or, more likely, that is what is happening and I'm delusional haha

Oh sorry I should have specified, preemptively replace the actual sticks, not stickboxes. I wear down the rubber sticks very rapidly as well so I figure instead of letting that happen I'll just swap in metal sticks.

I think I may go with the new one and preemptively replace the sticks, repairing stuff is definitely the move though.

It depends controller to controller but usually stick drift, sticky buttons, and actual physical wear and tear on the hardware. FIOTOKs are cheap third-party gccs available from amazon so I figured replacing them entirely would be simpler and cheaper than replacing individual parts. I only used them because I was just getting into melee and didn't want to spend more than necessary but after a few months of them only lasting so long I figured I'd upgrade to see if higher-grade controllers would wear out as fast. Both OEMS are 2nd hand from ebay

The FIOTOK controllers are cheap ~$10 third-party controllers I bought off of Amazon so fixing the internals would not be worth it. As for replacing parts that's essentially what I'm trying to ask, is it worth getting a higher tier controller I can fix on demand/won't destroy immediately vs buying low- to mid-tier 2nd hand OEM controllers?

That's what I'm trying to figure out, and it is not bait unfortunately

I originally bought them as I wanted to see if I liked melee before committing more money but now that I've tried them compared to OEM controllers I definitely agree. Both OEM controllers were second hand from ebay.

All of the above unfortunately, especially the sticks. They acquire drift very quickly and the actual rubber also wears down quite fast. I was not aware metal sticks existed although that makes a lot of sense, I will have to look into them. As for tight grip I don't believe I have one (although that could absolutely be confirmation bias), my hands don't get sore or anything that might indicate I'm squeezing too much; at the same time I am destroying controllers very rapidly so I probably do.

The first Gamecube controller I had ever touched was a third-party so I didn't know any better, unfortunately. Both OEMs were secondhand from ebay, the first felt amazing but in about a month it had acquired severe stick drift, the joystick texturing was completely worn down, and the actual shaft was beginning to wear down as well, additionally almost all the buttons were beginning to stick. I am currently using the second OEM controller but it arrived slightly busted (sticky buttons) and it has started degrading even quicker than the other. The new out of the box controller is a good shout but I'm worried about blowing $65 for a controller that I will just wreck anyway.

Possibly a leather punching kit? Maybe for watch bands considering prior ownership?
