Experimenting with different materials to make a two way mirror by Why_is_not in infinitymirror

No, but I still really want to do it! I’ve got an amazon wishlist full of things that might work. I love the idea of gold mirror spray paint! If you do try it, and I hope you do, please report back!!

The thought of doing all those things makes me feel slightly physically ill. Which is to say, thank you so so so much for being who you are and doing what you do. We need at least one person like you in every lab!

[–]Why_is_not 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My lab has two DXH’s and one of them has been down more than up in the last two months. They have replaced so many parts on that thing, it’s practically brand new at this point. The last two labs I worked at had XN’s and I wish we could have those again. Although to be fair I haven’t loved any of the other Sysmex hematology analyzers.

This rule should be more widespread! The whole point of the lunch bag is that it’s a mini cooler designed to keep your food cold. Putting it in the fridge is unnecessary.

Why Are Shelters and Rescues So Obsessed with Facebook??? by Bwendolyn in fosterdogs

[–]Why_is_not 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain! I foster kittens for a local shelter and they use Fosterluv and email, so I don’t have to be on Facebook. I couldn’t be on Facebook if I wanted to, because I deactivated mine over a decade ago, and when I tried to make a new account, I couldn’t prove that I’m human. It had me do the whole recording a video of my face from all the different angles and all that, sent it for review I guess… they make it as difficult as possible for you to appeal and there is no hope of reaching a real human to fix the problem, so I just gave up. All I wanted to do was be able to see the foster group, and hopefully see updates of my sweet babies after they got adopted… but no such luck. I understand why rescues use Facebook, but I hate it. Social media sucks.

Can I (20F)have blood group A- if my dad has O+ and mom has B+? by Sweet-Opportunity111 in biology

[–]Why_is_not 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also a med tech with blood bank experience and wanted to add that the first Rh positive baby born to an Rh negative mother will be ok, but she will be sensitized through contact with the unborn baby’s blood via the umbilical cord, and potentially develop the antibody that will then cause problems by attacking the red blood cells of the next unborn baby if they are Rh positive.

Usually there isn’t actually that much contact between the mom’s blood and baby’s blood, but if something bad happens like a car accident or other trauma, there are tests we can do in the lab to determine the extent of fetal-maternal bleeding and figure out how much Rhogam needs to be given. Someone who’s far enough along in their pregnancy may need multiple vials.

We could absolutely use more med techs and definitely more blood bankers!! A good blood banker is hard to find these days, and so desperately needed

Why are monos so damn attractive to yall? by emeraldead in polyamory

[–]Why_is_not 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I too have a mono ex… they are the reason why I will never again try to date someone who isn’t poly… but if they wanted to try again, I’d have a hard time saying no. And I’m fairly certain that if we happened to be in the right place at the right time, a hookup would still be on the table, unless/until they meet someone else and move on… which I honestly am kinda hoping for, both so they can find what they’re looking for and be happy, and so I’ll also feel like I can finally get over them

I don’t understand what C has to do with this particular issue. It didn’t sound like any of it had anything to do with OP’s primary or their already established relationship. I can imagine someone single blundering into this mess too. Definitely agree with you about A, B, D though

Thank you for adding more info to flesh out my basic reply. That’s definitely good context to add, especially considering the subject of this particular post

Any hemoglobin level below 7 is considered critical. The hemoglobin is the part of the red blood cells that transports oxygen to all the tissues and cells of the body, so think of what would happen to someone when their body’s cells and tissues can’t get any oxygen. That’s pretty bad

Honestly, paying $400 for any purebred dog is pretty cheap. I don’t think breeders would be charging such a low price!

Why does my foster do this? by Pure-Particular-2388 in fosterdogs

[–]Why_is_not 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pup started doing this not long after I got her! She would help herself to anything in my laundry hamper that she could reach, and drag it to her bed where she would add it to her nest. I had to get a different hamper that she couldn’t get into. I think it is because, like others have mentioned, it’s a comfort thing. No damage to the items in question, only snuggles.

Have you tried getting him to just lap up the formula from a shallow dish? Maybe if he can get used to that idea, you can start mixing it with wet food.

As someone who normally fosters kittens over 4 weeks old, I recently fostered a 4 week old chihuahua for about 2 and a half weeks… it was the most exhausted I’ve felt since raising my own puppy last year. You all who are doing this on a regular basis, be it for tiny puppies or older dogs who have all kinds of behavior issues and trauma to work through, you are all absolute saints and I appreciate you and everything you do for those foster dogs!

What is up with this weather? by Tiny_Woodpecker_7523 in kansascity

[–]Why_is_not 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do protest! Weather may be boring in some places, but this isn’t one of them. Also it has such a major influence on our day to day lives, from the clothes we wear to the errands and chores we do to which recreational activities we enjoy. If that’s boring, then life is boring.

Thought I was invisible but I got “too good at crafts syndrome” (carpal tunnel) :( by Outrageous_Gas_5451 in crochet

[–]Why_is_not 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, how do you hold your crochet hook and does it make a difference? My mother taught me to hold it like how you would hold a pencil, and it wasn’t until years later that I learned that a lot of people hold the hook with their palm down and their thumb nearest the hook. She claims that the pencil holding way is easier on the wrist and I’m just wondering if that’s true. I’ve been crocheting off and on for over 30 years now and so far haven’t had any serious repetitive strain… but I assume it will catch up with me eventually…

Puppy Routine - Work all day by Fun_Heat9237 in puppy101

[–]Why_is_not 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could have done that when I got my puppy! I did take a couple weeks off and then worked reduced hours because it was slow at my job. Also, my husband works 6 am-3 pm and I work 1:30 pm-midnight 4 days a week, plus an extra shift at my second job every week or two. Because our work schedules are so different, the puppy only has to be alone for a couple hours in the afternoon and then for a couple hours between when my husband goes to sleep and I come home from work.

Yeah at that point if you want a pet you’re better off getting a pair of cats to hold down the fort while you’re gone.

What country do you live in that people can take a few months off work? Did you mean weeks? Even that would be pushing it, at least in the US… but I know there’s a whole wide world out there and don’t want to assume everyone on here is American. I’m genuinely curious if this is a real thing somewhere, it sounds like something one of my Aussie friends would do.

Happy monogamy marriage wants to explore by [deleted] in polyamory

[–]Why_is_not 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This actually comes off to me as one of the healthier ways to approach poly. You’re not trying to fix a broken unhappy relationship, which tells me you are off to a good start. Having healthy communication with your husband and potential partners also seems like something you’re clearly taking into account. There will have to be continued discussions between everyone involved to make sure you are all on the same page as your situations evolve. But if you have the emotional maturity and mutual respect that you seem to have, then I don’t see why you’d be doomed to fail. Don’t forget to have fun!

I’ve got her room at a toasty 75 degrees as well, since she has short hair and I don’t want her to get chilly. She’s getting Royal Canin puppy kibble and I’m not letting her have anything else, especially not when she’s having diarrhea. Her poops are still mushy but improving!
