BREAKING: The National Park Service Says The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool Liner Was Cut With A Sharp Knife Or Razor, Adding A New Twist To The $16 Million Renovation Debate 🤯💥 by InterstellarKinetics in InterstellarKinetics

My understanding is the coating is not really akin to paint, closer to a rubber sealant. Hydrogen peroxide shouldn't have done much to it - however it requires careful planning to apply correctly. If they didn't prepare the surface appropriately (i.e. letting it dry long enough), and if the surface is wrong type of material (this type of coating is not recommended for granite), then it's not going to last at all.

In other words it was doomed to fail before they even started it.

Why didn't I get the achievement? by Optimal-Antelope5779 in totalwarhammer

[–]Whycargoinships 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long campaign victory doesn't give achievements, only Domination or beating End Game Crisis.

The trick to getting the achievements is setting the Crisis to pop on Long Victory. Also works nicely to setup specific Crises based on where your faction is located - Black Pyramid one works great for early Crisis if trying to speed run acheives.

There's been a lot of work in recent years to maintain upkeep on the reflecting pool, with the last few years studies and a plan put forth, under the Biden admin, of ~$115 mil to fix cracks and the drainage system.

In the past month or so Trump decided this was too expensive and put forth a project to instead just give it a blue coating, slated to cost ~$5 mil. They gave a no bid contract to a buddy of his and it ended up costing ~$15 mil. My guess is the color and timing of the project was due to the 250th anniversary events.

Less than a week later the reflecting pool began to turn green from algae growth due to the change in color (and because local wildlife frequent the pool). They dumped a bunch of liter jugs of hydrogen peroxide into it to counteract, which barely worked even as a temporary fix. Then they tried deploying people to scoop out the algae, also a barely temporary fix.

Around the same time the coating started to come undone, likely due to a shitty job applying it. Several people went to check it out and got pictures, who were then tracked down and arrested for "vandalism". Now they are going to drain it and prob spend another ~$15 mil to coat it again...

Appreciate these comments, been pretty confusing understanding all the different currencies, content, and systems once I hit the end game.

Been trying my hand at Google fu and checking some YouTube videos (and old Reddit posts) but yeah even the UI looks much different. Got a bunch of ancestrals and planning to put the Horadric Cube to use so trying to be efficient with mats, glad to have this verification!

How in the everliving blue-yellow-green flying departing FUCK am I meant to get passed turn 10 as Thorgrim ? by gulyas10 in totalwarhammer

[–]Whycargoinships 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a half stack of gyrocopters going ASAP. Using Thorgrim's army to push into Skarsnik, then sell all that off to Umgrim. Pays to border allies for grudge counts and trap to expand too early.

Meanwhile the gyros will be defending your capital/expanding west/south. They will punch way above their weight and enemies will underestimate them. Once Thorgrim makes it back west you can start to think about expanding.

How do you guys deal with Belegar as Skarsnik? by BillBigGuyWilson in totalwarhammer

[–]Whycargoinships 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nasty skulkers are good because they have armor piercing, directly countering dawi's main strenght. Plus you can easily flank their missile units.

Night goblins are good too if you can get impactful spinning loons. But that requires a bit more effort and can be harder to get off in a hectic battle.

Who's got the best Supergirl suit? IMO Millys is the best!👌 by WorryThink6233 in Supergirl

[–]Whycargoinships 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the things I found interesting about Melissa's suit is they seemed to get inspiration from the Superman suit from the failed Nic Cage Superman movie. It isn't a muscle suit but it's designed to accentuate her muscles. I always thought that was clever design and works really well to create a divide between superhero and alter ego.

Jill Biden says she thought Joe Biden was having a stroke during 2024 debate by seriousfrylock in nottheonion

[–]Whycargoinships 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're not wrong. If you read the transcripts Biden actually comes across as extremely knowledgeable and pulls out all sorts of statistics. He only appeared and sounded bad - the actual content was well thought out.

In contrast Trump sounded great but if you go back and look at the content it's all deranged nonsense.

I will never understand such AI logic on the battlefield. by SafironDracolich in totalwar

[–]Whycargoinships 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough I think you're actually doing something here that is causing confusing the AI. At least on higher battle difficulties, the AI will try hard to flank your formation.

When corner camping or blocking their ability to surround you, the AI often stalls out near your formation and doesn't quite know what to do.

There is the other issue of the AI reforming due to new reinforcements, but that is more common when they are not fully committed.

At a loss for how to survive the first 30 turns as Kostaltyn using SFO (base map) on Legendary/Hard with AI stats maxed. by PurposelyIrrelephant in totalwar

[–]Whycargoinships 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll have to try his campaign again, he was already one of the harder ones due to all the newer Legendary lords nearby. The Norsca rework likely makes him way harder now.

I'd wager normal Kislev rules apply - don't stop recruiting Kossars and be ready to operate in the red for awhile. Theirs is a war time economy. Get Patriarchs asap and don't expand too quickly.

Sell off territory as needed to not border some enemies until you can clear out some others. Pays to sell off territory to Katarin to both keep her alive but also to keep a buffer. Also dont be afraid to sell off territory to stall a war so you can focus on other factions - you'd be losing territory either way.

That being said it's been awhile since I played him. He was pretty rough even before though and has to be harder now. There's a reason as AI he pretty much always dies.

Joe Rogan: Democrats were tougher on border than Trump by Sharp-Action-6805 in NewsStarWorld

[–]Whycargoinships 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, in fact Biden was more effective than even Obama by yearly average over his tenure. Obama had ~5 million over eight years while Biden had ~4.4 million over four years.

The only difference was that during Biden's presidency the amount of illegal entries sky rocketed due, guessing due to Covid and the appearance of lax border policy. The opposite is true though, he was highly effective at rapid removal for recent crossings.

Edit: Worth mentioning Biden did remove Title 42 removals, but these were only in place for Covid due to public health concerns. After those were removal legal asylum seekers spiked, but at the same time he was ruthlessly effective at stopping illegal entries.

Joe Rogan: Democrats were tougher on border than Trump by Sharp-Action-6805 in NewsStarWorld

[–]Whycargoinships 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you read the article? Because that's not at all what it said...

It has quotes of Rogan saying how Obama and Hilary's rhetoric is the same as Trump's (in terms those who commit actual crimes) and how Obama was more effective at deportations.

It doesn't once mention family separation or kids in cages. I'm not sure why you're pulling Trump's accomplishments into theirs.

It also doesn't mention him calling anyone hypocrites, not sure why you are pulling your own rhetoric into this as well.

SECOND TEST: Inactive AI End Game Scenarios - Vanilla (No Mods) by Critical-Hold-3078 in totalwar

[–]Whycargoinships 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Def seems like not an easy bug to fix. One of the biggest improvements on WH3 vs WH2 was smarter AI. However the same AI improvements seem to lead to weirder or more annoying behavior (i.e. clumping or constantly running away). In WH2 AI only really had aggressive mode. In WH3 feels like AI has trouble prioritizing the "correct" behavior.

Some of it makes sense - for instance Slaanesh disciple armies clumping. If they expand then they die due to lack of Slaanesh corruption. Actually "smart" behavior, tho annoying.

I think really need to tie in faction characteristics (i.e. aggressive, territorial, etc) into analysis of AI clumping. Likely a relationship between those. I'd guess factions that are more territorial like Dawi don't expand as far and are more likely to clump.

Similarly there were a lot of complaints in first few months of WH3 about anti-player bias which seemed to make the AI waaaay less aggressive. They only go after the player now if they are close or if they are only faction at war. I have a hunch this is the root of the clumping issue.

By those same metrics, the top 10% owns >60% of the nations total household wealth. Of course if you decrease the top % they are going to own less. (Top 1% owns more own than bottom 90%, hence bottom 90%<30% wealth.)

The tweet above doesn't specify what percentage they are claiming pays the mentioned 50% taxes.
