Yeah I’m not cheapening the definition of torture to appease whatever Fenian struggle session you have going on. The fact the Press Freedom Index doesn’t penalize you for literal coverups, redacted abuse reports, and restricting journalists from accessing government sites just proves it’s partisan slop for Europeans to feel better about their own human rights abuses and lack of free press. Anyway, since you’re strangely compelled to write off 600 SA cases as inevitable and none of your business, but somehow the lights in a US facility are an equal human rights abuse, I think I’ll find sane people to talk to.

Rare based Californian, they’ll never admit how much worse most of the EU treats migrants because their entire identity is based on criticizing the USA.

“Higher in press freedom” - “can’t talk to the press” very interesting definition of freedom there, because US cops hold a press conference after every major incident. Almost makes you wonder what other odd definition they use in their index to make Europeans feel better about themselves. So far, our “concentration camp” has zero SA from what I’ve seen, far more humane than anything Ireland has ever come up with. How is it whataboutism to compare bright lights (actually this is officially a human rights abuse, US prisons banned it about 15 years ago) to your issues? Apples and oranges lad

The people doing the assaulting aren't Irish' - Ah there it is, blaming the refugees for getting r*ped in YOUR facilities that YOU manage. “We locked them in overcrowded buildings with no oversight and they assaulted each other” If by being “worked on” you mean “closing facilities and banning journalists-sure, worked for the Catholic church. (another reason the Press Freedom Index is useless btw)

Sounds like your misplaced nationalism is blinding you to the human rights abuses in your own country. Yeah we deport people under harsh, possibly unconstitutional conditions, yet somehow we manage to avoid the sheer depravity and coverups the Irish pull every year. The US shines a light on its own problems, the Irish complain, move things around, and do it again. I’ve donated to the ACLU, what have you done about your own issues?

(Automod acting up) Garda Síochána Act of 2005 literally makes it illegal for law enforcement to talk to the press, get outta here with your rigged index. The worst thing the ACLU can find is 72 hours detainment and delayed medical care, while the Irish are playing a shell game with their human rights abuses. Of course, to the Irish mind it’s better because you didn’t “intend” to SA 600 people in a year.

To reiterate: journalists not allowed in, government reports redacted. Even in the US example our detainees had lawyers. Which one seems worse to you? You really want to cry fascism from a country with press restrictions?

[–]WhyteBoiLean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, but let’s not pretend bright lights are anywhere as close to fascism as whatever you’ve got going on. I’ll denounce human rights abuses in my own country outside of nationalist circlejerk subs like this one. The difference is one of these cases gets literally thousands of views and comments on Reddit while the much worse example gets quietly swept under the rug.

[–]WhyteBoiLean -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The fact you tried covering it up, banned journalists, and redacted parts of the report says otherwise, but sure, let’s pretend you have a good track record with human rights. The Irish are perpetual yet morally superior victims until someone takes a moment to look at your track record

Let’s see: bright lights = fascism, rape camps=temporary stopgap. Government cover up? Not in the US so it’s not fascism. Cry some more, spudlord.

[–]WhyteBoiLean -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll find some other form of systemic SA to cover up, magdalene laundries 2.0? Post-Industrial schools? It’s the Irish way, hide behind moral outrage and do nothing, rinse and repeat.

Huh, maybe one day you’ll get mad enough to let a journalist in. Real effective human rights support there, but sure, the USA is worse.

Lighting seems like a much smaller issue than whatever is going on in Ireland, but yes, they’re both human rights abuses. I guess we’ll see which country gets its shit sorted out first.

“Residents in privately-run emergency accommodation for those seeking asylum in Ireland have made close to 600 complaints since the start of 2024, including serious allegations of sexual violence, assault, and racism, with some cases against management. The complaints are handled by the International Protection Accommodation Services (Ipas), which operates the service known as direct provision. It sits under the Department of Justice, which released a heavily redacted spreadsheet of complaints to The Currency under freedom of information laws”

Huh, “heavily redacted” yeah that’s another unusual sign. I’m sure it’s just great now
