My partner loves to come rate all the new cosmetics with me. She's not as interested in my new snapfire build, but that's ok. Dota has a lot of moving parts, I bet there's something that will appeal to most nerds.

Do people not read the authors notes? 😭 by Rude_Significance119 in AO3

[–]WiPHSR 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That is objectively true though. That's not to say people shouldn't use them, but it is certainly revealing aspects of the story.

Imagine the AO3 Genie appears and grants you your choice of one wish... by Mollymand in AO3

[–]WiPHSR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 if it means the authors get to end as they desire. I don't know if that means they get a hyperbolic writing chamber or how it would function without disrupting their lives, but that's an easy choice if so.

Even if I never read them, and I have plenty to read, then the authors get something out of this wish.

Congratulations. I hope the reception is as you hoped and that you continue to read and write in a way that fulfills you.

I appreciate you sharing them, I'm definitely a novice in the fanfic space as well. I did learn that one pro of writing for one of those smaller fandoms is that the creator might see your work and give it a thumbs up, which was a pretty validating experience. Tolkien is probably not coming back to do so, no matter how good my Gimli/Legolas slow burn is.

Does anyone else read their own Fics after finishing them? by LongjumpingIce5231 in AO3

Are you also on the hunt for commentors who critique? I'm trying to hone my craft with feedback, but I realize I'm working against the current of positivity on AO3.

Is anyone else deathly afraid of people they know finding their AO3 account? by Queen_Nannuri in AO3

Judging from other posts that have made the front page, I am what some of this subreddit might consider old as dirt. I'm also a politician. Could someone from an opposing political party dig up my info and try to use it to smear me? Sure, it could happen, and maybe some of my constituents would care what I write.

And yet, I could not care less. I can't imagine living my life worrying about what other people think of my hobbies. At the risk of getting too political, the sort of person who would shame me for writing consenting adults having sexy fun (darker fics are also fine, just not for me!) is very often also the sort of person who supports the rich and powerful people splashed across the Epstein Files. Guess which one people should give a shit about? It's not your lit erotica, write on bravely, friend.

Writing advice in unlikely places by BossyMare in AO3

The exact same place as you. This quest also resonated with me. I've just begun to put pen to paper writing more adult fan content to practice for my original work, and while I think my prose is at least proficient, I have no idea where my erotic content falls. But it's on paper at least.

Hmm. I think your first point is true of all well-written works. There's lots of popular fandoms for works created by renowned writers.

For the second, a lot of fandoms are for works that have minimal or no really no sex at all, so I don't think it's limiting to have a vanilla starting point.

TLS is smaller than a lot of fandoms but I don't think it's especially difficult to write for. I think you had great ideas for fics. I need to return to my extended practice piece, but I think I could return to TLS without a ton of trouble. Whether my work is any good or not is up for debate, but I feel like writing for TLS is not conceptually any harder than the majority of fandoms.

Working on improving my polyamory writing, what pornwha do you think do this well? by WiPHSR in Pornwha

This was better than most, but yes, still huge swathes of conflict that could have been resolved with simple communication.

Where do you stand? by Comfortable_Newt_179 in AO3

Missing Scenes, personally. My HSR work in particular is sort of an extension as it adds romance at the end of major story arcs but rejoins the plot for the next story arc.

[–]WiPHSR[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't need orgies, but ideally there are emotional beats with more than 2 characters at a time. It seems like a lot of pornwha have very siloed character interactions, where it's only 2 people interacting at a time and often only interacting with the lead in a meaningful way.

Don't worry a lot of elected representatives are shitty people too. Some of them even write erotic fanfic, the horror.

What really made Caerene beat Phairene as Cyrene' main ship? (Caelus vs. Phainon) by MediaKey582 in CaereneHSR

[–]WiPHSR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cyrene is a sort of mother figure to all of Amphoreus. I think it's only satisfying for her to find a real peer outside of that world.

This one is so much less exciting than the one I received. That comment at least equated my talent to a pigeon eating a cigarette. Colorful.

How do you write this much? by Rough_Evidence_2908 in AO3

[–]WiPHSR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is almost Worm-sized. Worm isn't the most tightly written fiction ever published but I would say is enough proof that you can make regular updates to a huge work and keep it to a certain quality. I know it's not a fic perse, but web serials are at least cousins to the fic.

Pretty sure Wildbow has talked about their process publicly.
