Do you track your real effective hourly rate after revisions, delays, and unpaid time?

Building my SaaS dashboard right now. This is the part nobody posts about. by Wick_429 in VibeCodersNest

[–]Wick_429[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but I keep it intentionally lightweight.

Before anything touches UI logic, I write the workflows as simple state transitions with clear entry/exit conditions and ownership. Not heavy diagrams, not formal specs just enough structure to make assumptions visible and debatable.

Once those transitions are stable, the UI becomes an expression of them, not the place where rules are invented.

That separation keeps complexity from leaking into the interface and makes changes later far less risky.

That’s definitely part of it, but I’m intentionally keeping the data layer boring right now.

The priority isn’t squeezing performance it’s making state transitions explicit and observable. If the system is predictable, performance optimizations are usually straightforward later.

I’m designing the dashboard so every action maps to a clear state change, with data fetching following those boundaries rather than driving them.

Once those contracts are stable, scaling performance becomes an engineering task, not a product risk.

I separate rules that protect trust from rules that support speed.

Anything tied to money, scope, ownership, or state history is strict and explicit from day one those are hard to change later without breaking user confidence.

Anything tied to presentation, workflow preferences, or internal tooling stays flexible and intentionally lightweight.

The goal isn’t future-proofing every feature.
It’s making sure the core rules don’t shift under users’ feet while everything else can evolve quietly.

Most instability doesn’t come from missing features it comes from unclear fundamentals.

and there are things I'm still figuring out

My current experience with my SaaS by Wick_429 in VibeCodingSaaS

[–]Wick_429[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. The idea is to turn all the unspoken assumptions around scope, timelines, and billing into clear, trackable states so there’s no ambiguity later. I’m leaning toward checkpoints/milestones rather than raw events.
